DIVISION OF CONTINUING ADULT AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES The Division of Continuing Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS) offers degree completion programs in seminar, online, and/or blended formats. These degree completion program options are described in the following section. Accelerated Associate Degree Completion Program in Liberal Studies The Division of Continuing Adult and Professional Studies offers an accelerated associate degree completion program in Liberal Studies for the adult learner. History The Liberal Studies Accelerated Associate Degree Program at Neumann University has been serving adult students in the Delaware Valley since 1974. The program is designed to provide adult learners who may have earned some previous college credits, or who did not attend college after high school, with the opportunity to complete the Associate of Arts degree. The uniqueness of this educational opportunity is found in the program s 6-credit seminar courses, which enable working adult students to attend classes in the evening, online, and/or in a hybrid format. These seminars blend learning approaches, thereby allowing students to learn theoretical material and apply that theory through the development of Experiential Learning Projects (ELPs). Often projects can be developed that are helpful to students at their place of employment or with their personal or career goals. Students may attend classes on either a part-time (1 11 credits) or fulltime (12 19 credits) basis. Liberal Studies courses are available in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Students may choose to work toward an Associate of Arts degree either as a terminal degree, or to design their course work in such a way that courses for the Associate of Arts degree fully articulate with the requirements for either the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies. Associate of Arts, Early Childhood Education (A.A., ECE) This collaborative Associate of Arts Accelerated Degree Program, jointly sponsored by the Divisions of Education and Human Services and the Division of Continuing Adult and Professional Studies and offered through the Division of Continuing Adult and Professional Studies, utilizes selected Core Course requirements of the Liberal Studies Accelerated Associate Degree Program in conjunction with specified accelerated 6-credit courses in Early Childhood Education to satisfy both Core and elective requirements to complete an Associate of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education. This program also utilizes the current adult Experiential Learning Project model of the Liberal Studies Accelerated Degree Program in which students apply what is learned in a classroom environment to a real-world project of their choice. This practical application of knowledge provides evidence of understanding related to course and program outcomes. Each course throughout this program integrates this Experiential Learning Project as part of a student s overall learning experiences. Upon completion of the Associate of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education, the student may select a baccalaureate degree completion option in either the Division of Continuing Adult and Professional Studies or a baccalaureate degree in Early Elementary (PK-4) and Special Education (PK-8), offered through the Division of Education and Human Services. Academic advising would be handled according to the degree/division of student s choice. Any student 21 years or older who has either completed high school, or earned a GED and otherwise meets the current admissions requirements for the Liberal Studies Degree Program, may apply to the Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education (A.A., ECE). Bachelor of Science Liberal Studies Organizational Leadership Professional Studies The accelerated baccalaureate degree programs in Liberal Studies, Behavioral Science, and Organizational Leadership require that students successfully complete the Liberal Studies Core Curriculum (60 credits), specified 6-credit seminar course requirements that are unique to each discipline, as well as any designated major course requirements and/or General Elective credits. The Professional Studies baccalaureate program option adheres to different admissions criteria, as well as a specified 3-credit seminar course format. The accelerated baccalaureate degree programs that are described below may not fulfill specific entrance requirements for graduate-level study. The first of these five courses is an introduction to the specific discipline, and the last is a capstone course which provides current information about the discipline. Three other courses dealing with discipline-specific topics complete the concentration. These academic concentrations may also be taken as Certificate Programs, independent of an actual baccalaureate degree. The curricular requirements for the academic concentrations listed below are presented in their required sequence. All requirements for any academic concentration or Certificate in the Liberal Studies Accelerated Degree Program must be completed with a grade of C or better; and a minimum 50% of all required credits must be earned at Neumann University. Professional Studies Course Requirements In preparation for the writing requirements of all Professional Studies 3-credit seminars, a minimum of 30 transfer credits with English Composition I and English Composition II, or their equivalents, must be completed prior to registering for any Professional Studies course. Students who have earned a minimum of 30 credits prior to enrollment must complete the Professional Studies foundations sequence (30 ), the major course sequence (30 credits), and a series of electives, enrichment courses, or course equivalencies, such as assessed prior learning (for a total of 30 credits) as part of their Self-Designed program of study, as determined in consultation with their advisor.
