Abstract: Although the integration of the principles of sustainability in the selection of site remediation alternatives has become an important issue, most attention is still paid to the direct costs of the soil remediation and the environmental and health impacts of the soil contamination. Less tangible social and economic aspects, such as non-monetary costs and benefits, are only marginally addressed, although they are essential to make a more balanced decision. The present study will first focus on a critical analysis of existing methods (decision support tools) that can be used to include the costs and benefits of soil remediation projects in the decision process. In a second part, the possibilities to express the secondary effects (environmental and health impacts) of site remediation in monetary terms will be assessed, assuming a life-cycle perspective. Existing economic indicators, relevant to the context of site remediation, will then be evaluated and a set of optimized indicators will Research Centre for Economics and Corpor Valérie Cappuyns A data quality framework for effective risk data aggregation and risk reporting. Monique Snoeck Tom Haegemans The political economy of geographical indications. Abstract: I will study the economic efficiency of exit clauses in political agreements by asking 'when are exitclauses expected to make the members better off?'in practice, exit clauses, which describe what to do if a party wants to stop being part of anagreement, are often lacking. Think of the issue of a potential Greek exit from the Eurozone (theso-called 'Grexit'). In the European treaties, it was not specified how to deal with the exit of acountry from the Eurozone. This could cause chaos if Greece wants to stop using the Euro (or isforced to). Clearly, if an unregulated exit happens it could cost a lot of money to all countriesinvolved, because of all the legal costs and the costs from uncertainty (such as reducedinvestments).given the high potential costs, you may wonder why countries would refrain from including an exitclause. In fact, agreements usually lack clauses for many potential situations - for instance what todo if one of the countries is taken over by a foreign army.
