Customer Fact Sheet What is Secure Retirement Income? Benefits of Secure Retirement Income: Guarantees a minimum income for life; Change income, or access savings, at any time; Death benefit option offering loved ones some financial security; and Income increases if your fund does well. Secure Retirement Income (SRI) is designed for savers who are approaching or in retirement. It gives you a guaranteed income for the rest of your life no matter how long that is even if the value of your savings falls to zero. This means you can retire without worrying whether market falls will adversely affect your retirement plans. Who can use SRI? SRI is for customers aged between 45 and 74 who have between 20,000 and 1 million to invest. You can use it to start taking an income from age 55, or to grow your level of guaranteed minimum income from age 45, so it s ready when you need it. How much secure income can I get? When you start your SRI investment, your original investment is called your income base. To calculate the amount of secure income you get, we multiply your income base with the relevant age-related income percentage, corresponding to the age at which you start taking your secure income. We calculate and set our age-related income percentages to achieve the best balance for you between guarantee benefits and costs. The example below shows how we calculate your level of secure income: Your initial investment was 100,000 and you start taking an income at age 65 4.05% Your income rate at age 65 4,050 Guaranteed yearly income for life ( 100,000 x 4.05%)

The table below shows the income rates for each age, so you can work out how much your guaranteed yearly income could be*: 55 3.20% 61 3.80% 67 4.25% 73 4.50% 56 3.30% 62 3.90% 68 4.30% 74 4.50% 57 3.40% 63 3.95% 69 4.35% 75 4.50% 58 3.50% 64 4.00% 70 4.45% 76 4.50% 59 3.60% 65 4.05% 71 4.45% 77 and older 4.55% 60 3.70% 66 4.15% 72 4.45% Your income rate is based on the age at which you start taking an income from your SRI investment. So if you start taking an income at age 65, your income rate is set at 4.05%. It won t increase to 4.15% when you turn 66. Read on to find out how your income could increase. *These income rates are our current terms for new SRI investments as at July 2015. How are income payments made? Income payments come from your SRI investment and will reduce the value of your savings as shown in the example below: 100,000 4,050 = 95,950 Your initial investment Your yearly income Your savings after year one* *This is a simplified example for illustrative purposes. The performance of the SRI fund you re invested in, and the charges taken, will also affect the value of your savings over time. Crucially though, even if your savings run out completely, we ll keep paying your guaranteed income. Your secure income won t go down unless you switch out of SRI. It s important to know that any guarantee is based on the ability of the issuing insurance company in this case Scottish Equitable plc to pay it. If, for example, that company no longer existed, then the guarantee(s) would be affected. If we become unable to meet our liabilities and if you re habitually a UK resident when the contract started you ll be covered by the provisions of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). Insurance business of this type is generally covered for 100% of the value of the whole claim, without limit. You can get more information about compensation arrangements from the FSCS at fscs.org.uk Can my income increase over time? Inflation means the things we buy tend to get more expensive over time, so we ve added something we call our monthiversary feature to SRI. Here s how it works. At the review date of your SRI investment, we look back to see what the fund value was on the SRI review date anniversary and each of the corresponding monthly anniversaries we call these dates the monthiversaries. You can find out more about monthiversaries in the How do monthiversaries work? section of this guide. 2 Secure Retirement Income

Can I switch out of SRI? If your circumstances change, you can switch money out of your SRI investment at any time. This can be useful if you need to access to more of your savings than normal, or if you re using SRI alongside flexi-access drawdown to create your overall savings pot and want to adjust the balance between the two. However, taking savings out of SRI will affect your income which will need to be adjusted. You can also choose to switch all your money out of your SRI if need be. Can I leave money to my loved ones? Having worked hard for many years to build your retirement savings, you may want any remaining savings to go to your loved ones when you die. Passing on an income When you start taking an income from SRI, you can select either a single or joint life secure income. If you choose a joint life income, when you die the person you nominate can continue to receive a secure income at 50% of the income rate that was payable to you, until they die. To qualify for joint life, the person you nominate must be a dependant, and no more than 10 years younger than you. Passing on remaining savings If you don t choose the joint life option, we may pay any remaining savings to your nominated beneficiaries when you die. And, if you select the guaranteed minimum death benefit (GMDB) option, this amount could be higher. If you choose GMDB, we ll pay your beneficiaries the higher of: OR OR The value of any remaining savings The highest monthiversary lock-in value at the last review date, minus any secure income paid** The value of your original investment, minus any secure income paid** **Please note, the value of this benefit will be reduced proportionately if you have switched out of your SRI investment. Please bear in mind that, if we ve paid more in income payments than the highest monthiversary lock-in value at your last review date, or your original investment, and your fund value is zero, then there won t be any money to pass on. You can find out more about monthiversary lock-in values on the next page. Secure Retirement Income 3

How do monthiversaries work? Our monthiversary feature gives you 12 opportunities every year you have your investment to lock-in investment growth. Here s an example: Let s say at age 65 you invest 100,000 and we review your SRI investment every year in April. You would receive 4,050 secure income. After reviewing the 12 monthiversary values on the review date anniversary, we see that the highest value was in month eight (November) the value was 105,000 on that date. 105,000 Fund value Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar From the start of year two, 105,000 would be your new locked-in income base and this is the amount we use to calculate your secure income in year two, so: 4.05% Your highest monthiversary value 105,000 Your income rate 4,252.50 New guaranteed yearly income for life ( 105,000 x 4.05%) When we lock-in a new income base it won t go down in the future unless you switch out of your SRI investment but it could go up again. Every year on the review date anniversary we review your income base, so you could lock-in a higher income base year on year. The monthiversary feature is likely to only be effective if you have deferred taking an income, or in the early years if you are taking an income. 4 Secure Retirement Income

Can my income increase if I don t start taking it immediately? Yes. If you don t want to take income straight away you don t have to. Once a year, before you start taking your secure income, we ll automatically increase your income base by at least 3.25% of your original investment we call this guaranteed pre-income increases. The increase that applies in the first year will be a proportion, based on the number of days you ve been invested. However, we could increase your income base by more if your fund has done well. Our monthiversary feature locks in your highest monthiversary value over the year if it s higher than the current income base plus 3.25% of your original investment. The amount your income base will increase by depends on how your fund value performs. It will increase to the higher of: the current income base plus 3.25% of your original investment* OR the monthiversary lock-in value* *Proportionately reduced for any switches out of your SRI investment Growing your income base 3.25% deferral story Let s say you invest 100,000 at the start of your investment at age 60, and don t take income immediately. The following graph shows how our guaranteed pre-income increases of 3.25% can grow your income base. Original investment 3.25% guaranteed pre-income increase New locked-in income base 103,250 106,500 109,750 113,000 116,250 Fund value 100,000 100,000 Original investment End of year 1 End of year 2 End of year 3 End of year 4 End of year 5 With our guaranteed pre-income increases, the income base has grown from 100,000 to 116,250, and we lock this value in for life as your new income base. If you then decide to take income, your secure income amount would be based on 116,250. But it could be more, read the Monthiversary deferral story to see how. Secure Retirement Income 5

Monthiversary deferral story Let s say you invest 100,000 at the start of your investment at age 60, and don t take income immediately. The following graph shows how our guaranteed pre-income increases of 3.25% work with our monthiversary feature to grow your income base in a varying market. Original investment 3.25% guaranteed pre-income increase Monthiversary increase 105,000 Monthiversary 109,250 Monthiversary 112,500 3.25% guaranteed pre-income increase 115,750 3.25% guaranteed pre-income increase 119,250 Monthiversary Fund value 100,000 100,000 Original investment End of year 1 End of year 2 End of year 3 End of year 4 End of year 5 As you can see, at the end of years one and two the monthiversary feature locks in the highest value as your new income base and this is what we would base your secure income on if you decided to take income at this stage. In years three and four the 3.25% pre-income increases are higher than the highest monthiversary figure so we lock in the guaranteed pre-income increase value as your new income base, and this is what we would base your secure income on if you decide to take income at this stage. Finally, at the end of year five, the monthiversary value is again the highest value and so our monthiversary feature has grown your income base to 119,250, and this is the value we would base your secure income on if you decided to take income at this stage. Age 65 = 4.05% New income base = 119,250 If you invest 100,000 at age 60 And decide to take income at age 65 Yearly income for life = 4,829.62 (4.05% x 119,250) And remember, once we ve locked-in the higher value, we lock it in for life, and it will never go down unless you switch out of your SRI investment. Plus, don t forget, you can opt to start taking income at anytime, from age 55. 6 Secure Retirement Income

How is my money invested? You can choose between two funds, designed specifically for use in conjunction with SRI. Aegon SRI Managed Volatility fund Average exposure to UK company shares Conservative 30-35% Cautious 45-50% These funds invest in UK company shares and UK gilts, and use a sophisticated risk-management process to make sure the amount of risk they take remains constant. Generally speaking, the more risk a fund takes, the greater its growth potential. However, riskier funds also have more chance of experiencing falls. You can only invest in one fund and once invested can t switch to the other fund. These funds are subject to regular monitoring to check if they meet out Funds Promise commitments. You can find out more about our Funds Promise at aegon.co.uk/fundgovernance You can find out more about these funds on their factsheets, and your adviser will help you work out which one best matches your risk appetite. What does it cost? In addition to our standard charges, a guarantee charge will be payable. This charge will depend on the fund you invest in, the benefits you choose, and whether you select the single life or joint life income. For more information on charges for SRI please see the charges guide that is relevant to you, or ask your financial adviser.
