Oracle Universal Online Archive Release Notes 10g Release 3 (10.2.2.1.0) January 2009 Note: This document is accurate at the time of publication. Oracle will update the documentation periodically after the software release. You can access the latest information and additions to this document on the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/ This document provides release note information for Oracle Universal Online Archive 10g Release 3 (10.2.2.1.0) (Oracle UOA). This document contains the following topics: About Oracle Universal Online Archive (Oracle UOA) New Features in Oracle UOA 10.2.2.0.0 New Features in Oracle UOA 10.2.2.1.0 Unsupported Oracle Content Database Features in Oracle UOA Applicable Oracle Content DB Documentation Important Upgrade Information Certifications for Oracle UOA Known Issues in Oracle UOA Documentation Accessibility About Oracle Universal Online Archive (Oracle UOA) Oracle Universal Online Archive (Oracle UOA) is a scalable, manageable, and hot-pluggable online archiving solution. With this solution, an organization can archive its complete range of content. Oracle UOA uses the Oracle Database to provide a combination of data accessibility and security with data deduplication, compression, and storage management. It can be deployed on a wide range of operating systems and hardware platforms using a centralized or distributed architecture, allowing any organization to deploy and manage a comprehensive archiving system. Oracle UOA can use its High Volume Importer and the Oracle Email Archive Service (Oracle EAS) to provide high performance, single instance archiving of Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes and SMTP email servers. Oracle UOA and Oracle EAS help enterprises decrease storage and IT operation costs, improve email performance and security, and reduce the cost and risk associated with e-discovery and litigation preparation. 1

New Features in Oracle UOA 10.2.2.0.0 Oracle UOA is a new product built on the infrastructure of Oracle Content Database (Oracle Content DB). Oracle UOA provides these features above and beyond the features of Oracle Content DB: High Volume Importer (HVI): HVI is a set of database tables in a separate schema (the HVI schema) and Oracle UOA Java event handlers. An external application, such as Oracle EAS, loads the database tables with information about various objects, such as documents, document content, folders, security and custom metadata, and the relationships among them. The event handlers read from the database tables and create Oracle UOA objects. The event handlers can be run on multiple middle tier computers for improved throughput. Auto-foldering: Documents loaded through the HVI can be put into automatically-created folders in order to keep the number of documents per folder to a manageable size. Legal Holds: Through the HVI schema, an external application, such as Oracle EAS, specifies which documents should be put under a legal hold and gives that legal hold a name. The application can remove the named legal hold on a specific document, or remove the named legal hold on all documents. There can be many named legal holds on the same document. Lifecycle Policies: Through the HVI schema, an external application, such as Oracle EAS, creates Lifecycle Policies with actions (such as delete) that should be taken after a certain amount of time has passed since the creation of a document. The external application gives these Lifecycle Policies names. Then the external application applies these named Lifecycle Policies to specific documents. The Oracle UOA LifecyclePolicy Agent performs the requested actions and notifies the external application that the actions have been performed. For example, the LifecyclePolicy Agent will delete a document as indicated by its associated lifecycle policy, and then notify the external application that the document was deleted. New Java Development Kit: A new software development kit for Java programmers is available that exposes the new functionality of Oracle UOA in addition to the existing functionality of Oracle Content DB. New Feature in Oracle UOA 10.2.2.1.0 Oracle UOA 10.2.2.1.0 provides this new feature: New Clustering Feature: See the description in the Oracle UOA 10.2.2.1.0 Installation and Administrator's Guide. 2

The following Oracle Content DB documentation is not applicable to Oracle UOA: Sections of the Oracle Content Database Administrator's Guide which refer to the above unsupported capabilities. The Oracle Content Database Application Administrator's Guide Important Upgrade Information Oracle UOA 10.2.2.1.0 must be installed on top of a fresh, unpatched Oracle Content DB installation.
