1.0 General The 3M Add-On Terminal 4220P 400-Pair is an outdoor enclosure designed to be mounted on the side of an existing cross-connect cabinet to provide additional cross-connect capacity without having to retrofit or replace the existing cabinet. The Add-On terminal comes in two colors, has a powder-coated steel housing, and is supplied with 3M Self-Strip Block 4320. 3.0 Tools Required a. Normal hand tools needed for a mechanical job, i.e. socket set, open-end wrenches, etc. b. Power screwdriver, power reciprocating saw, grinder c. 216 tool d. Safety glasses e. Protective gloves f. Electric drill with 9/32" drill bit and generator g. 3" hole saw h. 1 1/2" hole saw i. Metal-cutting saw Note: Carefully follow safety, health and environmental information given on product label or the MSDS Sheet. Installation site should facilitate construction, safety, installation, and maintenance. Cover plate 4.3 Remove gravel. Note: Prior to the installation of the 3M Add-On Terminal 4220P 400-Pair and 3M Jumper Trough, open cabinet doors and remove base cover plate at the bottom front of the cabinet. Remove excess gravel and make sure no cables are in the way before using saw or grinders. Remove all ground wires and protect face of cross-connect frame. 5.0 3M Add-On Terminal 4220P 400-Pair Installation 5.1 Remove door assembly. 5.2 Remove 3M Self-Strip Block Frame from 4220P Add-On Terminal Kit. 7
5.3 Remove the knockouts for entry of the self-strip block tails and jumper. Lower existing frame inside cabinet and move conductors away from the area where drilling will take place. Note: Non-pivot frames in 40-type cabinet may have center frame support along both sides of cabinet. In this case, use bottom cutouts on 400-pair. Note: Align bottom line where base is connected to the upper cabinet housing. 8
cable port jumper port 5.5 Mark location of entrance between cabinets on the wall of the existing cabinet. This should be centered on the trough opening. Drill a 3" hole for the jumper run to the trough. Note: For non-pivot frames, use 2 1/2" hole as center frame. Supports along inside of cabinet may get in way of drilling hole. Bottom two markings on template are for non-pivot frame. 9
Rubber mastic around hole 5.6 Install bolts and nuts to secure the 3M Add-On Terminal 4220P 400-Pair to the side of the cabinet and tighten. Thread the 3M Self Strip Block tails from the frame through the openings for the splice chamber and secure the frame to the terminal. 5.7 Secure the tails from the terminal to the splice hanger bars in the splice chamber using cable ties. Raise frame and tighten bolts to secure frame. 5.8 File burrs from all cut edges. Note: Install Scotch Rubber Mastic 2228 around cut holes on cabinet and 4220P housing. 6.0 3M Jumper Trough Installation Center template between ground plate Center template between bolts on front plate Bolts Bolts 6.1 Center template for trough over top frame area to be cut away. 10
1 1/2" 6.2 Drill 1 1/2" hole in face plate of cabinet using 1 1/2" hole saw to create an entrance hole for tite reciprocating saw. 6.3 Using a reciprocating saw, cut out as much of the portion of the support bar as possible for trough to fit in. 11
Opening in top frame area 6.4 Remove metal plate on top frame area to allow for trough insertion. 6.5 Grind away any sharp edges with grinder. Note: If use of accessory bonding kit is necesary, install it at this time. Refer to the 40 type bonding kit instructions. 12
6.6 Cut rubber mastic supplied and install to cover up sharp edges. Note: Use Scotch Rubber Mastic 2228. 6.7 Rubber mastic installed. 13
2 screws 2 screws 6.8 Remove 4 screws from bottom of each jumper run (2 each). 6.9 Tighten cable ties to close trough opening for ease of installation. 14
6.10 Install trough through front opening. Cut the cable ties to allow the trough to expand to fill the hole, and pull out the sliding shelves to meet the side walls of the cabinet. 6.11 Install the self tapping screws and replace gravel in cabinet. 15
6.12 Replace and secure bolts in front access panel. 7.0 Accessories 1. Bonding Kit: Auxiliary ground bars and mounting hardware for when the add-on terminal is installed on a cabinet. In applications such as this, the ground bar in the cabinet may need to be cut away to provide wire trough access.
