New Product! What Does It Do? The Headpod gives a child the opportunity to move within their plane of strength and on towards the goal of independent head control It provides the child with a real world visual field Can be used during feeding. It does not rigidly fix the head, but allows for rotation and forward flexion to assist with swallowing. The Headpod can reduce fatigue as the child no longer struggles during their day to maintain an upright head The Headpod fastens easily to a variety of headrest systems on a child s adaptive stroller, wheelchair or stander Easy to clean, lightweight and removable when not in use. Why Dynamic? What does it mean during gait???? Dynamic Assisted Gait The Meywalk, Miniwalk and Buddy Roamer move dynamically up and down during gait. This allows the user to come down into Heel Strike and Toe Off for a more normal gait pattern. As the user steps forward, the compressed spring assembly lifts and assists with the Swing Through portion of the gait. Toe Off Swing Through Heel Strike The Quality of Gait The weakest part of the gait is frequently the Mid Phase (Swing Through). Many children and adults have very weak hip flexors and as they step forward, they require assistance from their hip adductors to compensate for hip flexor weakness. This can create what is very frequently described as scissoring. The spring assist of the Meywalk, Miniwalk and Buddy Roamer can aid in the lift required at the Swing Through Phase of gait. As this requires less effort, frequently scissoring is diminished, promoting a more normal gait pattern. Whereas leg separation devices can block the scissoring, they can also strengthen the adductors by providing fixed resistance. A spring assist system can allow some users to strengthen their hip flexors and abductors for a better long term result. The Meywalk Assistive Transfer System The Meywalk also has the unique ability to be lowered to make transfers easier. Once the user transfers on to the seat and the ring and tail gate are in place, the user can be brought up into standing by pushing down easily on the lift bar until it locks into place on the base. Other walkers and gait trainers require the carer to lift the user into standing before transferring them into their device
