Domestic Student Health Insurance Student Health Insurance is Required in order to enroll in Classes! Part Time Domestic Students You are not automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). However, you may be eligible for SHIP on a voluntary basis. If you wish to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must fill out a SHIP enrollment form. SHIP Highlights SHIP is tailor-made for the college population and includes: Continuous coverage over Fall/Winter semesters and Spring/Summer semesters. Covers pre-existing medical conditions & preventative care Individual deductible of $200.00 Covers inpatient and outpatient mental health care Annual out of pocket limit of $3,000 which includes deductibles, copays and coinsurance. The student health insurance plan is tailored specifically for the student lifestyle, no matter what the age of the student, even if they are older than 26. Some things to consider when looking at the student health insurance plan is how the price and coverage compare to their current family, individual or COBRA plan.
Have your own Health Insurance? If you have your own health insurance or are covered under someone else s plan, you may waive the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Waiver requests must be submitted by September 15 th This waives SHIP for the entire academic year You must submit a new waiver at the beginning of each academic year in your SOLAR account. If you do not submit a waiver by September 15 th you will be billed, even if you have other health insurance. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you miss the Fall deadline OR are an incoming student for the Spring Semester, the you are eligible to waive between: January 1 st through February 15 th This will waive the Spring semester charge ONLY.
How To Use the Insurance Plan and Claim Benefits Always carry your Aetna insurance ID card If you have not received your card, go online to www.aetnastudenthealth.com/sbu to print out your ID card Show the card to medical personnel in the hospital or doctor s office Read your insurance plan It explains how the insurance plan works Plan Design and Benefits Summary on Aetna s website. Plan-specific information on services the plan covers, deductibles, premium rates, enrollment and waiver deadline dates, plan limitations and more. Always keep a copy of all paperwork, referrals and receipts You may need them later on!
Student Health Services (SHS) All registered students are eligible to seek medical care (via the Health Services Fee) at SHS, regardless of what insurance they hold. The University recommends you always visit SHS first if on SHIP. On campus source for meeting your primary health care needs. Dedicated to providing students with quality medical care. Offers comprehensive & cost effective services for both medical & psychosocial health problems. Services include: a pharmacy, laboratory, a social worker, gynecological services (Women s Clinic), a dermatology clinic & a self care cold clinic. The SHS Pharmacy is staffed by a full time pharmacist. Prescriptions are filled at substantial savings.
