Believe in SUCCESS
Believe in SUCCESS Who We Are High School Assistance (HSA) Service is the online arm of West Hollywood College Preparatory School along with other partner high schools who may expand into online education in the near future. Through our accelerated adult diploma program, students can earn a Regionally Accredited (WASC) High School diploma efficiently, and affordably. Through a unique collaborative effort between post-secondary education institutions, accredited high schools, and our counseling team, we provide a smooth transition for adults who need to complete high school credits before beginning their post-secondary education. By working solely with students who have committed to a post-secondary institution, we ensure a smooth process that integrates seamlessly with the post-secondary educational admissions process. Our Mission Our mission is to supply those who wish to obtain a post-secondary education, with the tools they need to succeed in such pursuits. We must arm students with the skills and recognition that come with a High School education so that they can reach their career goals. We must help them overcome time, familial, and financial constraints as they pursue fulfilling careers. HSA Service is here to help bridge the gap between people who have not finished high school, and the resources they need to succeed. One of these resources is a High School diploma which affords them greater opportunities than does a GED. Increased Retention How It works When a student applies to a post-secondary career program, they are asked for their educational records, including transcripts and diploma information. Some students find out that they do not qualify either for their program of choice, or for Federal Student Aid because they do not have a high school diploma. This is a critical point at which a student with the motivation to seek career training may become discouraged enough to suspend plans for career training. Instead of advising the student to find a GED program, or pursue their unfinished high school credits on their own, the college admissions counselor simply guides the student to sign up with our High School Assistance Service Program. Once registered, the student is assigned HSA courses based on his or her existing transcripts. Courses can be completed from the comfort of their own home, or at the post-secondary school that enrolled them. Providing students the opportunity to complete the high school program at the post-secondary institution provides two major benefits. First, students can acclimate themselves to the college environment and to the administration of the hosting post-secondary campus. Secondly and perhaps more importantly, both HSA Service, and the host campus can monitor student progress and attendance. One additional benefit of the High School Assistance program is that students (or sponsoring colleges) do not need to pay for the program until they are ready to take their final exams. This ensures that all students who pay for the program, have already demonstrated the diligence and commitment to complete the majority of the program before payment is ever required. This greatly reduces the risk of paid students who drop out of the program.

In addition, GSA holds membership in NAFSA: Association of International Educators and the Pacific Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (PACRAO). HSA Service has developed an efficient and transparent process for determining what courses a student must complete in order to graduate from our online program. At a student or counselor s request, HSA Service provides a detailed summary of which of a student s prior courses can be used to fulfill the graduation requirements. Any unfulfilled requirements are completed in the HSA Service Program.
HSA s proprietary Student Management System (SMS) is a tool we designed specifically for our partners to track student progress. Juggling diploma progress with enrollment and registration can prove challenging. Our SMS provides transparency and greater control over this process. Our Payment Tracking System logs receipt numbers, check numbers, and payment dates while linking them to unique student ID numbers. This way, the payment status of a given student can be confirmed in real time, and the risk of incorrect payments is avoided. Once a student is marked as paid, he or she is cleared to attempt their final exams. Our Diploma Tracking System allows for real time confirmation of a student s diploma status. Once a student completes their final exams with sufficient scores, the system automatically alerts our counseling staff to review the work and process the student s diploma. The SMS allows administrators to see whether a student s diploma is being processed, printed, or delivered. friendly AND ACCESSIBLE COUNSELORS Our counseling staff is trained to assist students at all stages of the enrollment and learning processes, from course assignments, final transcript and diploma requests. Because our counselors are directly accessible by email and by phone, students can be assured that their progress is fully supported in a personalized and timely fashion. Transcript and Document Assistance Going back to school can be a complicated process involving financial planning and compiling documents. Since the process can be overwhelming for a student during such a pivotal point in their decision to return to school, HSA Service provides assistance with requesting and obtaining old transcripts and completion certificates from students previously attended schools. Proprietary Learning Management System HSA s proprietary Learning Management System (LMS) was designed with the goal of educating adult students efficiently and effectively without unnecessary flare. Courses generally consist of worksheets, practice tests, and a final exam, all of which force the student to revisit the material to ensure that the information is retained. Our SMS provides transparency and control HSA Service s Adult Online High School program ensures that students meet or exceed High School standards. Graduation Requirements The California Department of Education (CDE) mandates certain coursework that must be completed at a California public school before qualifying for a high school diploma. While the graduation requirements set forth by CDE apply only to public institutions, West Hollywood College Preparatory and HSA Service insist that graduates of our program are held accountable to the same standards. Content Standards HSA Service s curriculum was designed by adhering strictly to the content standards published by the California Department of Education. Designed to encourage the highest achievement of every student by defining knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at every level, CDE s content standards also meet or exceed the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The CCSS defines curriculum frameworks that have been adopted in 45 states across the country to ensure that students graduate with consistent education in English and mathematics. California High School Exit Examination HSA Service also incorporated elements of the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE). While this test is generally reserved for public high school students, HSA Service, incorporated all of the English and Mathematics standards that are tested on the exam into our curriculum. We always want to ensure that our adult students meet or exceed the skills of their peers who attended public schools. Educational Resources HSA Service worked in concert with Pearson Education to select the most user-friendly and thorough texts for instruction. Using online tools that can be accessed from any internet connection, students can truly complete the program on their own schedule.
