Style, durability and safety Paint protects the floor, making it pleasing to look at and also durable and safe. Cleanliness When you paint the floor properly, it is easy to keep clean. The paint forms a tight coat and withstands cleaning agents well. Safety Safety is also important: the floor must not be slippery. On glossy and slippery floors, Mosaic flakes increase friction. Finishing the surface with Mosaic flakes also gives it a livelier look. Durability A floor paint selected based on the area of use withstands wear indoors and outdoors alike. A high-quality floor paint adheres tightly and evenly to the substrate. Once dry, a paint or coating protects the floor and is durable. In work areas, a floor with a proper treatment withstands traffic, stress and chemicals. Beauty A high-quality floor paint helps you design your interior decoration according to your preferences and the requirements of the space you are working on. Painting patterns on floors offers a wealth of opportunities for creating the desired atmosphere. Different colours are also available for painting a concrete floor, and painting patterns on the floor adds an additional touch. Convenience A quality floor paint spreads evenly and covers well. The coat looks good whether you use a roller or a brush. Some products can be spread with a trowel. A short drying time is also imporant so that the second coat of paint can be applied. However, the paint will usually reach its final durability within 1 2 weeks. 4

MOSAIC FLAKES Mosaic Flakes offer an exciting option for creating a lively floor surface. We have designed a range of Mosaic flake tones which match floor paints well. The harmonious colours offer opportunities to create impressive and contemporary interior decorations. Select the colour of your choice from the Tikkurila colour card for floor paints and pick the matching Mosaic Flakes. The colour selection for Mosaic Flakes is available at your local paint store. Colourful Mosaic Flakes are easy to use - simply sprinkle them on wet paint or coating. They are not suitable for use on Betolux Floor Paint or Permo. Mosaic Flakes are a convenient and stylish way to cover up minor imperfections in the floor. The flakes are excellent in preventing the floors from becoming slippery in areas with lots of traffic with outdoor shoes. 14
HOW TO USE THE MOSAIC FLAKES w o r k st a g e s 1. Paint the floor with the colour of your choice. See the painting instructions on pages 16 19 2. Sprinkle flakes on wet paint or coating and let the surface dry and harden. The flakes are not suitable for use on Betolux Akva or Permo. Tip! An old and dry tin can or paint container makes a handy shaker for Mosaic Flakes. Use a knife to punch approximately 1 cm holes in the bottom of the can. Put the Mosaic Flakes in the can and sprinkle them evenly on the floor surface. 15
HOW TO TREAT CONCRETE FLOORS p r e -tr e a t m e n t of a ne w su r f a c e 1. Remove any dirt, oil and grease with Tikkurila's Maalipesu Clean ing Agent, and then rinse the floor thoroughly with clean water. 2. Remove laitance risen to the surface during casting by sanding or pickling with hydrochloric acid. For pickling, you can use, for example, 1 part hydrochloric acid and 4 parts water. 3. Remove sanding sludge and dust carefully. Rinse the pickled floor with copious amounts of water. Let dry. Pre -tr e a t m e n t of pr e v i o u s l y pa i n t e d su r f a c e s 1. Remove any loose materials and dust by brushing or vacuuming. 2. Remove grease, oil, chemicals and other impurities with Tikkurila's Maalipesu Cleaning Agent. 3. Remove loose, flaking and poorly adhered paint by scraping, sanding or milling. 4. Sand the remaining solid and hard paint coat until matt. 5. Clean any cracks and crevices and remove any brittle and crum bling concrete with an edge grinder or by chiseling, all the way to solid concrete. 6. Clean off dust thoroughly. Painting wi t h Be t o l u x Fl o o r Pa i n t Suitable for unpainted surfaces or surfaces previously painted with a similar paint in dry and wet indoor areas exposed to light mechanical stress. 1. Smooth down cracks, holes and crevices until flush with the surrounding floor surface using epoxy putty. 2. Prime bare concrete areas with Betolux Floor Paint thinned by approximately 20% with White Spirit 1050. 3. Apply one coat of unthinned Betolux to create a gloss surface. 4. Clean the tools with White Spirit 1050 or Tool Cleaner. Painting wi t h Be t o l u x Ak v a Fl o o r Pa i n t Suitable for new concrete floors, and for maintenance of concrete floors previously painted with alkyd or epoxy paint or treated with epoxy lacquer, exposed to light mechanical or chemical stress. 1. Fill cracks, holes and crevices with epoxy filler and level the surface. 2. Always prime new concrete floors completely with Betolux Akva Primer. Bare concrete areas of previously painted floors can be primed with Betolux Akva, thinned by 10% with water, or with unthinned Betolux Akva Primer. 3. Apply 2 3 coats of unthinned Betolux Akva Floor Paint to create a semi-gloss surface. 4. Clean the tools with water or Tool Cleaner. Tip! The concrete surface must be dry before applying the surface finish. If you do not have a hygrometer, tape a transparent plastic sheet of approximately 1 m² tightly on the floor. Leave it in place for more than 12 hours. Moisture will condense on the underside of the plastic sheet if the floor is not dry enough for surface finishing. 16
HOW TO TREAT CONCRETE FLOORS Tr e a t m e n t wi t h No v o p o x LP Ep o x y Co a t i n g Suitable for new surfaces and surfaces previously painted with epoxy paint. Pre-treat the surface as shown on page 10. Painting wi t h Ak v a c o a t Ep o x y Pa i n t Suitable for new surfaces and surfaces previously painted with epoxy paint. Pre-treat the floor as shown on page 10. 1. Mix separately the hardener (=tinted/larger container) and plastic component (smaller compartment of the dual container) mechanically in their own containers. 2. Add the plastic component in the Akvacoat hardener in a ratio of 1 part plastic and 2 parts hardener. Mix them thoroughly using a mechanical mixing tool. Note that you will have one hour to apply the mix after combining the hardener and the plastic component. 3. Prime bare concrete areas with Akvacoat Epoxy Paint, thinned by approximately 10 15% with water, and let dry. Tools: a brush, roller or trowel. 4. Fill cracks, holes and crevices with epoxy filler and level the surface. Note the drying time of the putty. 5. Apply one coat of unthinned Akvacoat Epoxy Paint. 6. Clean the tools immediately with Tool Cleaner or water and soap. 1. Prior to applying the coating, prime the clean, new concrete floorwith Novopox P Epoxy Primer (mixing ratio 1 part volume hardener, 2 parts volume primer), thinned by 30 50% with Epoxy Thinner 1074. The coating must be applied within 24 hours of priming. Otherwise, the surface must be sanded prior to applying the coating. Prime oncrete surfaces previously painted with epoxy paint with Novopox LP Epoxy Coating, thinned by 10 15% with Epoxy Thinner 1074. Finish with Novopox LP Epoxy Coating, thinned by approximately 10%. 2. Smooth down cracks, holes and crevices until flush with the surrounding floor surface with a mass made of Novopox LP Epoxy Coating and clean, dry sand (grain size ø = 0,1 0,6 mm). 3. Thoroughly mix the hardener and coating component in their containers using a mechanical mixing tool before combining them. Add the hardener in Novopox LP Epoxy Coating in a ratio of 4 parts volume hardener and 10 parts paint. The dual containers always have the correct mixing ratio. Note that you have 15 30 minutes to work the mix after the hardener and plastic component have been combined and the mixture poured on the floor. Only make as much mixture as you can use during that time. 4. Spread using a serrated trowel or a steel trowel, and smooth down with a mohair or felt roller. 5. Apply one coat of Novopox LP Epoxy Coating thinned by 10 15% with Epoxy Thinner 1074. Use unthinned Novopox LP Epoxy Coating as the finishing coat. Prepare coating mass by combining 1 part clean dry sand and 1 part ready-made coating mix and apply a thickness of 1.5 3 mm. 6. You can freshen up the finished floor by sprinkling Mosaic flakes on the wet surface. 7. Clean the tools immediately with Epoxy Thinner 1074. Tip! The mixing ratio of the contents of the epoxy products' dual containers is correct. Follow the same ratio and prepare only as much of mix as you can spread on the floor within the application time. Always mix the epoxy products thoroughly in their own containers before combining the components. Epoxy products such as Aki Garage Coating, Aki Primer, Novopox LP Epoxy Coating and Novopox P Primer harden and heat up in their containers after the allowed application time has elapsed once the components are combined. Akvacoat Epoxy Paint and Lacquer do not harden in the container but their application time is approximately one hour. Do not scrape the leftover mix from the container on the floor but add it in the next batch to be mixed. Air temperature affects the hardening time. The right tool for mixing is a slowrotation power drill with a paint mixer. Ensure proper ventilation during work. Avoid skin contact with the epoxy product. Use appropriate protective clothing, gloves and eye or face protection 17
Novofloor 1-K Elastic FOR BALCONY FLOORS Elastic, single-component polyurethane floor coating with low solvent content, hardened by air humidity. The product's storage time is only 6 months. Colour is light grey RAL 7032. Used on floors with a surface of concrete or cement mortar, requiring flexibility, water-tightness and bridging of cracks. Especially suitable for coating balconies. Not recommended on floors subject to high mechanical stress. Pre-treat the floor as shown on page 10. 1. Prime the surface with Novofloor 1-K Primer polyurethane primer thinned with Novofloor Thinner. Pour the primer on the floor and spread in an adequate thickness that saturates the concrete surface. When needed, repeat the priming in order to create a non-porous surface. Leaving the primed surface porous causes holes and air bubbles in the completed film of coating. Perform the repeat treatment immediately using the "wet-on-wet" method. When walking on freshly primed floors, wear spike-soled shoes. 2 Smooth down bubbles, open cracks and crevices using a mix of unthinned Novopox P Epoxy Primer or Aki Primer and clean dry sand. The mixing ratio is, for example, 1 part epoxy mix and 1 2 parts sand with a grain size of 0.1 0.6 mm. Sand the levelled areas until flush with the surrounding floor and re move sanding dust. 3. Coating with Novofloor 1-K Elastic can be done in 4 12 hours after priming (+23 C), but no later than 24 hours. If the finishing, however, will delay, sand the primed surface before applying the Novofloor 1-K Elastic coating. 4. Mix Novofloor 1-K Elastic coating thoroughly before use. Pour the coating on the floor and spread with an adjusting trowel, serrated trowel or mohair roller. Spike the surface within approximately 15 minutes from treatment. This evens out the film of coating and removes air bubbles. When walking on freshly coated floors, wear spike-soled shoes. Dry enough for use after 24 hours. 18
AKI GARAGE COATING FOR CONCRETE FLOORS IN THE GARAGE Ideal for coating garage floors. Speading Aki Garage Coating is easy for anyone who has experience in the use of 2-component epoxy products. Aki Garage Coating hardens quickly after the components are combined, so make sure you plan the work carefully ahead of time. Make sure you have all tools available. Plan the working order carefully from start to finish. Coating a larger area usually requires two people. For instructions, product data sheets and instructional videos, please see our website at www.tikkurila.com. Pre-treatment is shown on page 10. Co a t i n g a ne w c o n c r e t e fl o o r 1. Prime an untreated concrete surface with Aki Primer. Thoroughly mix the primer component and hardener component in their own containers with a mechanical mixing tool before combining them. Add the hardener in Aki Primer in a ratio of 1 part hardener to 2 parts primer, and add 30 50% of Epoxy Thinner 1074. Thoroughly mix for at least 3 5 minutes using a mechanical mixing tool. Note that you will have 30 minutes to spread the mix after it has been poured on the floor, and 15 minutes when the mix is in the container. After that time, the combined Aki Primer heats up and hardens quickly. Air temperature affects the speed of the hardening reaction. Do not scrape the ready mix from the container onto the floor. Pour the mix on the floor and quickly spread with a trowel or roller so that the floor is saturated. If needed, repeat the priming in approximately 2 hours using the "wet-on-wet" method in order to create a non-porous surface. When walking on freshly primed floors, wear spike-soled shoes. 2. Level any open cracks and crevices with epoxy mass made of a mix of unthinned Aki Primer or Garage Coating and clean, dry sand. The sand grain size is 0.1 0.6 mm. 3. Sand the levelled areas until flush with the surrounding floor and remove sanding dust. You can start coating the surface after the priming and patching have hardened for at least 6 hours at a temperature of +23 C, but no later than 24 hours after priming. A primer surface hardened for longer than 24 hours must be sanded prior to applying the coating. 19
