Investment Commentary (continued) Clean Energy Fuel rose sharply as the market believes it will be a major beneficiary of the rising oil price. This will make its natural gas fuels more price competitive in the transport sector. East Japan Railway rose on strong financial results as its guidance incorporated higher than expected passenger growth. Atlantis Resources announced the takeover of Marine Current Turbines making it the de facto leader in the tidal turbine industry. On the other side of the ledger, Covanta reported reasonable results but soft electricity and metal prices have weighed against the stock. Munich RE followed its reinsurance peers lower on a general de-rating of the sector. Tokyo Gas fell after reporting financial guidance well below market expectations. Aligning values with investments You probably already understand the importance of having a portfolio that matches your appetite for risk, but equally, if not more important, is holding a portfolio that reflects your values. For example, if you value the provision of fair working conditions (and no child labour) then it s important to invest in funds that negatively screen out stocks on this basis. Portfolio diversification Ethical funds in particular, often invest in stocks that are not covered by many fund managers and brokers. Good for the world Your investments can help build a new low-carbon economy, fund medical and technology breakthroughs, efficient transport and more. Units in the managed funds are offered and issued by Australian Ethical Investment Ltd ABN 47 003 188 930, AFSL 229949.
