Master of Science in Health Care Administration Accelerated Program Thank you for your interest in the Master of Science in Health Care Administration Accelerated Program. Included in this package you will find the following: Brief program description, who should attend, special features and tuition information Admission requirements, application process, course descriptions and a year by year plan Basic admission information Application to the College of Health and Human Services Application to the University Financial Aid information In order to apply to this program you will need to follow the steps outlined below: Complete the application to CSULB and attach a non refundable check for $55.00, along with any necessary support documents, and submit this to Graduate Admissions at the University. Have these sent to you do not open them, but attach them to the appropriate application form when submitting. The Office of Admissions will evaluate your transcripts for eligibility to the University. Master of Science in Health Care Administration Program Accelerated Program (MSHCA AP) Now accepting inquiries for the Fall 2006 learning team Program Description Developed by an expert team of faculty and industry professionals, the MSHCA AP program is designed to prepare you for administrative positions in hospitals, managed care, mental health settings, multi institutional system central offices, governmental health agencies, and other health related organizations. The curriculum combines online and face to face instruction on weekends. Subject areas include an analysis of the U.S. health care system, managerial skills essential to the health care profession, financial management, strategic business in the health industry, ethics, and public policy analysis. CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, LONG BEACH ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS CSULB GRADUATE AND POSTBACCALAUREATE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS General requirements The minimum requirements for admission to graduate and postbaccalaureate studies at CSULB are in accordance with university regulations as well as Title 5, chapter 1, subchapter 3 of the California Code of Regulations. Specifically, a student is to: 1. Have completed a four year college course of study and hold an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association, or is to have completed equivalent academic preparation as determined by appropriate campus authorities; 2. Be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended; 3. Have attained a grade point average of at least 2.5 (A=4.0) in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted (excluding lower division and extension coursework taken after the degree); and 4. Satisfactorily meet the professional, personal, scholastic, and other standards for graduate study, including qualifying examinations, as appropriate campus authorities may prescribe. In unusual circumstances, a campus may make exceptions to these criteria. TOEFL REQUIREMENT All graduate and postbaccalaureate applicants, regardless of citizenship, whose preparatory education was principally in a language other than English must demonstrate competence in English. These students must receive a minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (applicants taking the Computer Based Test of English as a Foreign Language must present a score of 213 or above), unless the applicant: 1. Submits proof of having obtained a bachelor s degree from an accredited postsecondary institution where English was the principal language of instruction. 2. Notification from CSULB s American Language Institute that the applicant has successfully completed levels 5 and 6 of the American Language Institute Program. WRITING PROFICIENCY EXAMINATION (WPE) All students must demonstrate competency in writing skills as a requirement for graduation. Master s seeking students must take the Writing Proficiency Examination during the first semester they are in residence. This is done by passing the Writing Proficiency Examination (WPE). Information and registration forms on this graduation requirement may be obtained from Testing and Evaluation Services at 562 985 4006. Students who have met the WPE requirement during their baccalaureate degree program at CSULB or at another CSU campus are exempt from retaking the WPE as a graduate student. Graduates need to provide proof of fulfillment to both Enrollment Services and the department Graduate Advisor. 3

THE COLLEGE OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS The program requirements are established by the Department of Health Care Administration of the College of Health and Human Services. All Master s seeking students must meet the program admission and completion requirements in addition to the general CSULB requirements. When considering applicants for admission to the Master of Science in Health Care Administration, Accelerated Program, the academic department is looking for the following applicant qualifications: 1. Professional experience in the Health Care industry OR management/supervisory experience in another field 2. Verified professional or academic experience in the following areas: Accounting Economics Statistics Proficiency with basic computer applications (Word, Excel, Power Point), as well as familiarity with Internet, Outlook, and other virtual communication tools 3. Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (A=4.0). Those applicants with less than 3.0 (no less than 2.5), but with acceptable evidence of professional potential shown through recent academic performance and experiential background, may be admitted by special action of the Program Graduate Committee 4. The academic department may recommend that the applicant take a graduate admission standardized test such as GRE, GMAT, or similar, if the evaluation committee determines that it might strengthen the applicant s overall admission qualifications 4
