Page 1 The Great Controversy Part 2 (Easter Season 3-B) Written by Deborah Wasmer, Gr. 1-8 teacher warrenschool@samnet.net Warren SDA School (Massachusetts), Southern New England Conference Students playing the characters may be of varying ages. The play was originally written so that each child in Ms. Wasmer s one-room school would have a part. All students were also involved in the tone chime musical interludes. Page 2 Angel 3 ( ) The shepherds are leaving their sheep and are going to find Jesus. They seemed to be surprised that the Messiah is a baby? Do you think they have made room in their hearts for Him? Angel 5 ( ) They seemed surprised to hear us singing. I am sure that some of the people will accept Jesus as the Messiah. They will be surprised to find the Messiah in the stable with all of the animals. I m glad the shepherds listened to us and are following our directions. Angel 9 ( ) I am so thankful that we were chosen to give the message to the shepherds that the Messiah was born in Bethlehem. He will bring joy to this world. Angel 8 ( ) I see so many people who need some joy in their lives. Many people seem very worried about the future. Angel 7 ( )- The priests have certainly made their lives difficult with all of the rules and regulations they must follow. I know the Messiah can change their picture of our Father. I wonder how it will all work out. Angel 5 ( ) The Jewish leaders have set up so many laws that it is hard for the people to keep it all straight. King Herod is very afraid of the Messiah. I wonder how he will react when he hears that the Messiah is alive. Angel 1 ( )- I know that Lucifer and his angels will be after Jesus whenever they can. I wonder if they will use King Herod to try to kill Him. Angel 9 ( ) Jesus is going to upset some people. The world has never seen anyone like Him. I only hope that they will watch Jesus and choose to follow Him. Angel 8 ( ) He has so much to show them about His Father s love for them. He has given up all of heaven to go down to the earth to save them. Angel 7 ( ) I know that Lucifer and his angels will try to discourage Jesus whenever they can. We must stay close to Him.

Page 3 Angel 3 ( ) Jesus will show the people how to live and treat each other. What an incredible sacrifice He is willing to pay for those He created. Angel 5 ( ) He created them and now He is willing to redeem them. He is willing to be the ultimate sacrifice required to pay for the sins of the people. I only hope they will listen and follow Him. Angel 1 ( ) We must stay close by Him to encourage and support Him. Our Father has given us the privilege of taking care of Jesus and we will answer His every call. He needs us now more than ever. Tone Chimes God Will Take Care of You Scene 2 Narration ( )- The conflict continues. The good angels were surrounding Jesus with love and encouragement, but the evil angels were always there, too. Lucifer was going to do all he could to win. Evil angels and Lucifer arrive dressed in black robes. Angel 2 ( ) What a fun assignment we have been given! We are to stay with the Son of God. This is going to be so exciting. It shouldn t be too hard to get Jesus to sin. Angel 4 ( ) We have been practicing for 4,000 years now. We are actually very good at it. We must stay together if we are to succeed, because we are stronger when we are together. Angel 6 ( ) This shouldn t take too long or be too difficult. I think we should wait until He is alone and then go after Him. Lucifer convinced Eve when she was alone and I think it should work with Jesus, too. Angel 4 ( ) Do you think it will work with Jesus here on earth? Now that He is here on this earth alone do you think He will continue the relationship that He has built with His Father?

Page 4 Angel 2 ( ) He cannot see His Father. It will be easier to break that relationship now. We must break the relationship. If we fail, Jesus will be the sacrifice that is required. Angel 6 ( )- He is the only one that is worthy. If we don t break the relationship, we are doomed. Lucifer ( ) We must not give up! We must keep working together. I will not accept the possibility of failure! We have many years of practice and we must not give up now. Yes, Jesus is worthy, but we must make sure that He does not succeed! Tone Chimes Worthy, Worthy, is the Lamb Scene 3 Good angels enter dressed in white robes. Narration ( ) It is time for the annual Passover Feast. Angel 1 ( ) What a privilege to stay so close to Jesus. The people were so cruel to Him. It was hard to watch the trials that went on all night. I didn t think it would really happen like this. It is so hard to see Him on the cross! Angel 7 ( ) I see Jesus mother standing over there. She is so broken. I m thankful that John is with her. He will be the encouragement and strength that she needs to get through this awful day. Angel 9 ( ) I could not believe it when I heard the people yelling for Barabbas to be set free! Angel 8 ( )- What a difference a week makes. Just last week they were yelling Hosanna to the Son of David! and today the same people were yelling Crucify Him! Angel 9 ( ) Can t they see that He is the Son of God?

Page 5 Angel 7 ( ) They choose not to see. They have the same choice we do. It seems that some just follow the crowd. When the crowd wanted Barabbas, then they shouted with the crowd. When the crowd wanted to crucify Jesus, then they wanted to crucify Him, too. Angel 5 ( ) I know it hurt Jesus to watch them make that choice. I could see the hurt in His eyes. It truly shows the Father s love when He can still love them even when they turn their backs on Him. Angel 3 ( ) What a long day and night this has been. How much more does Jesus have to endure? The cross was so very heavy for Him to carry when He had been up all night and beaten so many times. Angel 1 ( ) I am thankful that Simon was there when the Roman soldier was looking for someone to carry the cross when Jesus fell to the ground. He was so exhausted. Angel 5 ( ) Even after Peter denied he knew him three times, I could still see the love in Jesus eyes for Peter. I know Peter saw it, too. What incredible love the Savior has. Angel 7 ( ) We must not leave Jesus now. He needs us now more than ever. I know that Lucifer will not stop until Jesus is dead. I know the end must be near. We can t leave Him to die alone. Angel 3 ( ) He is never alone. God the Father has never left Him! Jesus is the supreme sacrifice for all sin past, present, and future. He is the Prince of Peace The Son of God! What incredible love! Tone Chimes What Wondrous Love Scene 4 Evil angels enter wearing black robes. Angel 6 ( ) We did it. We convinced Judas to come over to our side and he did a fine job of giving Jesus to the soldiers. Peter denied Him and many of the other disciples fled in fear from the Garden.

Page 6 Angel 4 ( ) We incited the crowd to demand for Barabbas to be freed and they did. They demanded that Jesus be crucified and Pilate had no choice but to give them what they wanted. I think we have done a very fine job. Angel 2 ( ) I don t know we have encouraged the people to kill the Son of God! He said that He would be the supreme sacrifice for our sin. He said that the temple would be destroyed and rebuilt in three days. What does that mean? Angel 6 ( )- We have all heard the promise of a Savior for thousands of years. He is almost dead now. Do you think He will stay in the tomb after He is dead? Angel 2 ( )- Lucifer convinced us, but I do not think that Lucifer is going to win this battle. Lucifer enters. Lucifer ( ) We can t give up now. We have Him on the cross. He feels the separation from His Father. Angel 4 ( ) He just said, It is finished. Evil angels and Lucifer together Yes! Tone Chimes When I Survey the Wondrous Cross Good angels enter wearing white robes. Angel 3 ( ) He has been dead and in the tomb for three days. Angel 7 ( ) He promised that after three days, He would be alive again. Angel 9 ( ) I think it s almost time.

Page 7 Angel 8 ( )- I just heard the Father say, Roll away the stone. Ready? Set? Push!!! Angel 9 ( ) Wow that was fun. Did you see those soldiers fall down like they were dead? Angel 8 ( ) They had never seen the light of the Father before. Angel 5 ( ) What an incredible day this is! The promise of a risen Savior has been fulfilled! Angel 3 ( ) The supreme sacrifice has been accepted for all sin.! Angel 1 ( ) Do you think people will believe that He is alive? We saw it happen. We were here. He promised He would, but were people listening? Tone Chimes Christ the Lord is Risen Today Evil angels enter wearing black robes. Angel 4 ( ) I had forgotten just how bright the Father s glory is. We were no match for the Father s glory. Angel 6 ( ) It has been an incredible morning! We have had so much practice destroying relationships over the years, I really thought we would win. There was no way we could separate Jesus and His Father. Angel 2 ( ) After watching Jesus for the past several years and not making any progress with destroying their relationship, I am not too surprised that we did not win. He always talked with His Father. He shared everything with Him. Angel 4 ( ) He spent so many nights just talking and listening to His Father. He was always so loving and kind. He was even kind to those whom we convinced to treat Him so awful. Angel 2 ( ) He forgave the soldiers who nailed Him to the cross! That is the kind of love He has always shown. That is who He is and who He will always be kind, loving, Jesus.

Page 8 Lucifer enters. Angel 6 ( ) What now? Do we give up on everyone else? Are we the only ones who will die? Lucifer ( ) We will never give up! We have a whole world to convince to follow us. The supreme sacrifice has been made, but we will continue to try to convince everyone to follow us. Remember, everyone still has a choice to either follow us or to follow Jesus. We must convince them to follow us! Are you with me? Evil angels together We are with you. Evil angels leave. Good angels arrive. Angel 1 ( ) It is so good to have Jesus back in heaven. It seemed so empty when He was gone. I am thankful that He won the battle against Lucifer. Angel 7 ( ) We must continue to encourage the people on earth who choose to follow Jesus. Our job is not finished. Lucifer and his angels will not give up. Angel 9 ( ) Heaven is such a beautiful place. It is filled with sweet music and peace. Angel 8 ( ) I hope many people will choose to follow Jesus. Angel 5 ( ) Heaven is filled with the Father s glory. He is preparing a place for each person who chooses to follow Him. The sacrifice has been made. Angel 3 ( ) Lucifer is working so hard to convince people that God is not fair. That has always been his lie. What will it take for people to believe the truth about out Father?

Page 9 Angel 1 ( ) People have a choice just like we did. We can encourage them and show them the Father s love, but they have to choose to accept His love. Jesus relationship with His Father gave Him the strength he needed for each day. Angel 7 ( ) I hope they will realize that is the only way to have strength for each challenge they face. If only they will remember His sacrifice for them the love He showed that day on the cross. Tone Chimes Near the Cross Good angels enter wearing white robes. Angels speak to the audience. Angel 3 ( ) Jesus heard the crowds as they shouted Crucify Him! and He suffered terrible pain at the hands of the soldiers. His heart broke with the weight of sin. He died, but he the story does not end there. Angel 7 ( )- He lived, died, and rose again so that we can live in heaven with Him. Angel 9 ( ) Jesus wants us with Him. Angel 8 ( ) He is preparing a place for each one of us now. Angel 1 ( )- He loves us. He wants a special relationship with each of us. Angel 5 ( ) Jesus paid the penalty for sin and now it is our choice. Will we follow Jesus or Lucifer? The battle for each heart is still going on today. Who will you choose to follow? Jesus loves us, died for us, and won the battle for us. Will you accept His sacrifice and follow Him today? Angel 3 ( ) He is waiting to hear your answer. Tone Chimes The Savior is Waiting Closing Hymn with Tone Chimes Redeemed!
