PURITY FLASHRECOVER REPLICATION Native, Data Reduction-Optimized Disaster Recovery Solution

420 420 PURITY FLASHRECOVER REPLICATION Business continuity and remote data protection are of paramount concern for enterprises. Unfortunately, most data protection and disaster recovery solutions require complex planning, configuration and significant investment to achieve the desired recovery point objective (RPO). More importantly, even if desired low RPO is achieved, the recovery times are much higher without making significant investments in DR solutions. Furthermore, many disaster recovery (DR) solutions are neither economically nor operationally viable in production environments due to the fact that expensive equipment is often left idle. Also, many DR solutions require DR site infrastructure to be identical to the production site, making the DR configurations restrictive. All-flash-based storage array (A) deployments face a new challenge for DR. As need to provide cost efficient data recovery solution to keep the storage economics intact in the DR configurations. As a result of complexity, inflexibility and economics, disaster recovery solutions are applied to only select few mission-critical applications or forgone completely. THE BENEFITS OF ASYNCHRONOUS + SNAPSHOT REPLICATION COMBINED Pure Storage introduces FlashRecover Replication simple, flexible and efficient asynchronous replication that combines with space-efficient snapshots and policy-based automation to power Purity FlashRecover for native, data reduction-optimized disaster recovery. Purity Replication is an IP-based asynchronous replication that enables multi-site long-distance data protection with low recovery point objective (RPO). It protects your data and enables zero recovery time to fully recover in the event of disaster without giving in on performance or space efficiencies. With data reduction and network optimization, Purity replication can provide a cost efficient DR solution with no compromises. Moreover, Purity Replication allows you to efficiently use DR infrastructure for both DR and production simultaneously with complete flexibility. - Instant Recovery Real-time Monitoring - -420 Bi-directional Replication 1000s Replicas 1000s Snapshots Pure Storage 2014 2

SIMPLE, FLEXIBLE AND EFFICIENT SNAPSHOT-BASED ASYNCHRONOUS REPLICATION Efficient and Network Optimized FlashRecover Replication leverages space efficient and scalable snapshots to create point-in-time consistent replicas of multiple LUNs. Purity snapshots do not require any space reservations and have no capacity or performance impact on creation. These snapshots can be replicated simultaneously to multiple remote sites over long distances. The replication engine compares the last replicated snapshot to the new one and sends only incremental data between the two snapshots, thus preserving the capacity and network bandwidth for replication. Purity replication is also data-reduction aware i.e. the data reduction savings from the source volume are preserved end-to-end, providing a network efficient replication solution. Global deduplication allows even higher rates of data reductions across multiple LUNs in multi-array DR configurations. SPACE EFFICIENT AND NETWORK OPTIMIZED Always thinly provisioned, deduped, and compressed Differential only between replicas Global deduplication Simple to Operate FlashArray replication can be setup within minutes in just three simple steps connect, configure and schedule. It requires no professional services or complex planning. Step 1: Connect any two arrays from -400 FlashArray family through secure peer-to-peer connection. Step 2: Configure a protection group i.e. group of multiple LUNs or hosts to replicate or snapshot at a consistent point-in-time. Step 3: Schedule the desired frequency to replicate the protection group with flexible retention policies. The protection policies automate the replication frequency, as well as local snapshot creation frequency. The policies also allow variable retention of local snapshots and remote replicas. The replicas and snapshots are thinned overtime and expired as defined by the policies. ROBUST YET SIMPLE TO OPERATE Setup in just three steps No pre-planning or professional services Automated protection policies Simultaneously replicate multiple LUNs Pure Storage 2014 3

COST EFFICIENT DATA-REDUCTION-AWARE ASYNCHRONOUS REPLICATION Once configured, replication schedules can be monitored through FlashArray GUI, CLI or RESTful interface with up-todate information on in-progress replication sessions, network bandwidth utilization and last successful recovery points available for each protection group. Instant recovery that enables Zero RTO Achieving low RPO without greatly reducing or eliminating recovery time can be worthless. FlashRecover Replication enables instantaneous recovery of multiple LUNs at no performance or capacity impact. Leveraging the robust and capacity efficient snapshot design, FlashArray replication allows creating live LUNs from any replica preserved on the array. Instantaneous multi-lun recovery enables users to achieve faster recovery of multiple applications in case of disasters. Additionally, LUNs recovered from replica preserve the data reduction of its parent replica and hence do not require any additional capacity at the time of recovery. The recovered LUNs can be used for host IO and operate independently of its parent replica. This enables users to utilize DR sites for application workloads or for Development and Test workloads without disrupting the protection policies on the DR FlashArray. INSTANTANEOUS MULTI-LUN RECOVERY Instantly recover from any point-in-time replica Achieve zero RTO on disaster recovery Monitor multiple replicate sites and recovery points Multi-array, multi-site recovery Purity Replication is a peer-to-peer multi-point disaster recovery solution that can be configured to replicate data between any -400 family of arrays. Once connected, the arrays can participate in bi-directional replication. Furthermore, a protection policy can replicate data to multiple arrays at multiple sites simultaneously providing a flexible DR solution. Purity Replication can also be configured in Fan-In topology. In such topologies, FlashArray s comprehensive and global deduplication can provide significant capacity savings for replicas on DR FlashArray, making the DR both more efficient and affordable. FLEXIBLE REPLICATION WITH LOW RPO 1:1, 1:Many, Many:1 topology Bi-directional replication Replicate across FlashArray family 1GbE or 10GbE cross array connectivity Pure Storage 2014 4

COST EFFICIENT DATA-REDUCTION-AWARE ASYNCHRONOUS REPLICATION Replication is part of Purity FlashRecover that extends the efficiencies and scale of local data protection to remote sites. Purity replication can protect your data between data centers or centralize backup and disaster recovery. FlashArray s highly flexible protection policies automate end-to-end protection management. Additionally, by providing both instant recovery and low RPO, Purity Replication enables faster recovery from disaster. PURITY FLASHRECOVER Data Reduction-Optimized Backup & Disaster Recovery Built-in to Every FlashArray Space-efficient 1 local snapshots 2 1000s with zero overhead. Space-efficient replication with snapshots Replicate asynchronously 3 Instant recovery anywhere Zero RTO. 4 Flexible multi-site protection 1:1, 1:many, many:1, many:many. 5 Complete protection via Protection Policies Consistency groups and variable retention. FlashRecover Snapshots, Replication and Protection policies provide a complete solution for enterprise-class data protection and disaster recovery management with total flexibility.
