INTRODUCTION RCL Foods obtained Foodcorp and TSB Sugar in 2013 and 2014 respectively with the objective to establish a diversified and large scale animal feed business. In January 2015 two of the leading animal feed companies, Molatek and Epol, merged. This merger makes it possible to market a more complete product range for almost all animal species and offers a sustainable value chain meeting the needs of the consumer and the client. Although these two animal feed companies have merged, their respective products are still marketed under their own brands but with the advantage that one, larger sales team is at the disposal of farmers. Since the late eighties, Molatek, as manufacturer and retailer of molasses-based animal feed for ruminants, became one of the leading animal feed companies in South Africa. With a philosophy of performance, knowledge and service for profitable stock farming, clients can always rely on the right advice at the right time. In the animal feed business, quality control to ensure product quality is fundamental and Molatek s well-equipped laboratory and ISO 9001:2008 accreditation greatly add to this. 1

Supported by close to a hundred years of experience and expertise, Epol is one of the leading animal feed manufacturers in South Africa. The company endeavours to supply top quality animal feed and service so that animals can achieve their full genetic potential and to maximise farm profit. Committed research and development and formulations further ensure a winning formula. The animal feed industry utilises by-products from the milling, oil and fishing industries. This makes it vital that sound quality control be maintained. Epol houses a laboratory at each of its mills. Furthermore, the company s quality guarantee system enables them to trace the quality of the feed and/or premix for systematic controls in the production chain. These animal feed businesses provide molasses and grainbased products in the form of meal, liquid feed and pellets. All products are available countrywide at various retail outlets; as well as in neighbouring countries. 2

ENERGY MOLATEK MOLASSES MEAL CLASS: ENERGY SUPPLEMENT REGISTRATION NO. V7264 ACT 36/1947 N-FF0666 PROTEIN Min g/kg 40 MOISTURE Max g/kg 150 CALCIUM Max g/kg 13 FIBRE Max g/kg 100 ME (estimated) MJ/kg 10,5 STORE IN A COOL, DRY PLACE MASS 40 kg Molatek Molasses Meal is made up of 75% high quality molasses absorbed on 25% sugar cane core. Its palatability stimulates intake of complete feeds, binds dustiness and restricts losses due to the wind. Molasses Meal is rich in easily digestible energy, certain B vitamins and minerals and is an ideal energy replacement for a part of the grain component in selfmixed ruminant mixed concentrates, complete feeds and licks. MOLATEK MOLASSES MEAL APPLICATION: Molatek Molasses Meal for horses Two kg per horse per day, together with good quality pasture or roughage provide an excellent energy ration. On poor quality pasture and roughage, half a kilogram sunflower or soya bean oil cake per day should be given in conjunction with Molatek Molasses Meal to help supplement protein deficiencies. Molatek Molasses Meal for feedlots In cattle and sheep feedlots, up to 25% molasses meal can be included in cattle rations and up to 15% in sheep rations to make it more palatable, contribute to the energy in the ration and to bind dustiness. Rations mixed with Molatek Molasses Meal facilitate the adaptability of animals. 3

Molatek Molasses Meal for dairy farms In home-mixed farm rations with own raw material or high protein concentrates, the inclusion of molasses meal will make the ration more acceptable and ensure higher intake. The energy requirements of young animals can mostly be satisfied by molasses meal-based rations. Up to 15% Molatek Molasses Meal can be mixed into dairy cattle and calf rations. 4

NATURAL PROTEIN CONCENTRATE MOLATEK BYPASS CLASS: PROTEIN CONCENTRATE FOR RUMINANTS REGISTRATION NO. V21556 ACT 36/1947 N-FF2425 MOISTURE Max g/kg 120 PROTEIN Min g/kg 300 FIBRE Max g/kg 120 FAT Min g/kg 25 CALCIUM Min/Max g/kg 5/10 PHOSPHATE Min g/kg 6 UREA-FREE CONCENTRATE MASS 50 kg The amino acid requirements of ruminants are directly related to physiological functions such as meat growth, wool growth and lactation. Molatek thus follows a strategy of evaluating the amino acid composition delivered by diets in the lower digestive tract of ruminants. According to this a combination of bypass protein sources is included in Molatek Bypass to supplement the amino acid deficiencies. The supplementation of bypass protein sources that complement the microbic protein composition, will therefore considerably increase the production of cattle and sheep under intensive production conditions such as in the feedlot. A 30% crude protein with a 40% bypass protein is used in Molatek Bypass. A combination of four protein sources is used. The essential amino acid profile requirements and deficiencies of ruminants were taken into account with the combination of the protein sources. 5

The application of Molatek Bypass: Starter rations in the feedlot with small-framed calves and lambs (page 8, 16, 18, 19). Rearing rations and supplements for bulls and rams (page 10, 16, 18, 19). Creep feed mixes (page 19). Dairy rations. 6
