1 Prerequisites Before using the open-source deployment utility SelfImage to install Ahsay BackupBox Firmware (AhsayBBF ) on a flash storage device, please make sure that the following requirements are met: 1. The backup box device must be configured to meet the minimum hardware requirements of AhsayBBF : x86 architecture CPU Motherboard that supports CF boot. (e.g. boot from CF) SATA/SAS harddisk 1GB or above memory RJ-45 LAN port 2. The flash storage devices are in our supported list: Kingston CF Card Warning: Please do not apply the instructions in this document to any other unsupported flash storage devices, unless you are absolutely sure that you fully understand and are absolutely sure of what you are doing. 3. The flash storage device should meet the minimum 1GB storage size requirement. 4. The data on the flash storage device should be backed up properly. Once the deployment process begins, all data on the flash device will be OVERWRITTEN. 5. A Windows 2000 or XP desktop / notebook computer is required to execute the deployment utility program. 6. To avoid selecting a wrong disk for deployment, it is advised to remove all other USB storage device such as USB portable harddisk and USB flash drive. 2 Supported Flash Storage Devices This chapter lists the supported flash storage devices. 2.1 Kingston Compact Flash Card Standard (1GB or above) Appearance Model No o o o o o Kingston CF/1GBFE. 3 Firmware Deployment Process This chapter describes how to write the firmware image to your flash storage device via SelfImage. 3.1 Prepare the flash storage device 1. View your current disk configuration from the Computer Management console i. Right click on My Computer and select Manage : ii. Click Disk Management from the Computer Management console. 2. Attach the flash storage device to your computer via a card reader. i. Attach CF Card to your computer and click Action->Refresh to refresh the Disk Management console. ii. 3. Format the flash storage device as FAT or FAT32. i. Right click on the partition and click Format. ii. Select either FAT or FAT32 to for file system format. Use volume label CF_CARD for reference. Ahsay Systems Corporation Limited Page 5 (October 30, 2009)
iii. The flash storage device has been formatted as a FAT32 partition with volume label CF_CARD. Ahsay Systems Corporation Limited Page 6 (October 30, 2009)
3.2 Deploy the firmware image with SelfImage Download Please download the AhsayBBF deployment bundle from here. Launch the deployment utility 1. Extract all files from the bundle to a temp directory (e.g. D:\bbf-deployment). 2. Go to directory tools->selfimage->runtime and double click the SelfImage.exe. Select the firmware image and target flash storage device 1. Click on the File radio button from the Input panel to select the firmware image file. 2. Select firmware image ahsaybbf-i386.img from the image directory. Ahsay Systems Corporation Limited Page 8 (October 30, 2009)
3. Click Edit->Refresh Drive Lists to update the available disk list. 4. Click on the Drive radio button from the Output panel to select the target disk. Ahsay Systems Corporation Limited Page 9 (October 30, 2009)
5. Select the \Device\Harddisk* (entire disk) from the drop down list. 6. You can refer to the drive letter which the flash storage device has been assigned. Now you have configured SelfImage with a firmware image file as input and the entire flash storage disk as output. The file size and disk size has been shown in the SelfImage. Write the firmware image to the flash storage device 1. Click Start button to begin the deployment process. Make sure you have selected the correct disk or all data on the disk will be overwritten. 2. The deployment process has begun. Wait until all bytes have been written to the selected flash storage device. Ahsay Systems Corporation Limited Page 11 (October 30, 2009)
3. The deployment process has finished. You may click Exit to close the deployment utility. 4. Click Action->Refresh from the Compute Management Console. The flash storage device partition now have unknown format and volume label. Ahsay Systems Corporation Limited Page 12 (October 30, 2009)
Safely remove the flash storage device 1. Click the Safely Remove Hardware icon at your system tray. Remove the flash storage device from your computer. 2. Now you have deployed the AhsayBBF firmware image to the flash storage device. Ahsay Systems Corporation Limited Page 13 (October 30, 2009)
4 Further Information The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) embedded to the package will expire within 30 days, and AhsayOBS & AhsayRPS will stop working at the same time.
