Structure of a paper Starts with an abstract About 100-150 words Summarizes the paper (main contributions, why is it important to read,...) Most important part of a paper Decides whether somebody is going to read your paper Read many abstracts on the Internet to judge what a good abstract is about. Sometimes followed by keyword 10
Writing a Scientific Paper A paper needs a well-defined question that it answers Begin the paper with by describing the problem domain Articulate the problem and the arising questions in this domain that your paper addresses Answer the question Use simple and plain language Follow a simple structure Proof / explain your claims 11
Structure of a paper Abstract (not more than 100-150 words) Introduction (brief!) Introduce problem, outline solution Should include clear statement why problem is important (or interesting) Outline of rest of paper: "The remainder of the paper is organized as follows. In Section 2, we introduce..section 3 describes... Finally, we describe future work in Section 5.
