Our story says that an angel came to see Mary. (sing) The angel said that Mary would have a baby boy. After the angel came to see Mary, she and her husband, Joseph (show figures) had to take a trip to a city named Bethlehem. Mary rode on a donkey. The donkey s feet sounded, Clippity-clop, clippity-clop as they walked down the road. walk the figures along as on a long journey (Mary Had a Little Lamb) Mary rode to Bethlehem Bethlehem, Bethlehem Mary rode to Bethlehem On a little donkey. 5 Bye
When Mary and Joseph got to Bethlehem they wanted to find a place to sleep. They knocked at every door asking for a place to stay. (Hot Cross Buns or just chant the words) Knock, knock, knock! Knock, knock, knock! Joseph s knocking Mary s knocking Knock, knock, knock! (shake head no) There s no room There s no room They are full They are full There s no room Making knocking motion as you sing or Say When Mary and Joseph got to Bethlehem they wanted to find a place to sleep. They knocked on the door of a house (pretend to knock, knock, knock) and asked if they could sleep there. The man said, "No, I don't have any more empty beds." So Mary and Joseph had to ride some more. (Walk s again) They tried the next house (knock again) and the man said, "No, I don't have any room." so Mary and Joseph had to ride some some. (walk s again) They tried a third house (knocking motion) and the man said, "No, I have no beds in the house but you can sleep in my barn." (Bring out stable) So Mary and Joseph went to sleep in the barn with the animals. (Place Mary and Joseph figures in stable and collect donkeys) 6 Bye
That night while Mary and Joseph stayed in the barn with the animals a special thing happened: was born. They did not have a crib for him to sleep in so they had to make a bed for him in the straw. Show in the straw and put him in the stable with the other figures. 7 Bye
The tells us that some shepherds were out in a field near Bethlehem with their sheep when they looked up and saw some angels. The angels told the shepherds was born in Bethlehem. Then the shepherds decided to go to see. Place figures in Nativity Set while you explain shepherds. As you place the shepherds in the stable, ask what sound their sheep make. 8 s Bye
After Jesus was born a special star appeared up in the sky. (pass out stars) Three wisemen saw the special star and they said, Let s follow the star so we can find. The wisemen got their camels and loaded them up with presents for Baby Jesus. They began to follow the star. Give each child a star to hold in the sky. Teacher shows the three wisemen from the Nativity set and walks them along while singing. (Mary Had a Little Lamb) Wise men see a shiny star, Shiny star, shiny star. Hold each item and let children touch or smell the gold and the spices. (Teacher or assistant should hold items. Don't pass around the perfume as it could be very messy if spilled.) The three wisemen each brought a gift for. They brought gold, frankincense and myrrh. Gold: This is the gold. Touch with one finger. See the shiny gold that tells us Jesus is a king. Frankincense: Frankincense is special spices. Would you like to smell them? Myrrh: Myrrh is a special perfume. The wisemen were so happy to find. 10 Bye
God sent a special gift to all of us: His Son, Jesus! He was born is a stable. His mother s name was Mary. His father s name was Joseph. came to see him. Three wisemen brought him special gifts.
