CIVDDD Centre for Innovation in Information Visualization and Data Driven Design CIVDDD Annual General Meeting Ocber 4, 2013
Collaborative Continuity in developing innovative data driven design and information analytics and visualization solutions in four thematic areas Bioinformatics and Medical Applications (Leads: Asif, York & Gardner, OCAD U) Interactive Visualization (Lead: Fisher, York) Text Analytics in the Humanities and Social Sciences (Lead: Diamond, OCAD U) Scientific Visualization in Engineering and Physical Sciences (Lead: Cercone, York) Research Goals: effective data mining algorithms and analytics; information visualization design techniques, data inquiry methods, interfaces, and multidisciplinary research practices. Economic Impact: training HQP as researchers and entrepreneurs, in data analytics and visualization, and creating value for Ontario through academic private secr partner (PSP) collaborations that facilitate commercialization and knowledge mobilization. 15 research teams led by York University in partnership with OCAD University and the University of Toron, funded by ORF-RE, institutional partners, and PSPs. Each team is required work with at least one faculty researcher from a different institution hire HQP (undergraduate, Master s, PhD or post-docral fellows) have at least one PSP; once a PSP has been approved by ORF-RE, the PSP can work with any CIVDDD team.

Data Analytics and Visualization Youth Workshops CIVDDD & Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) MOU collaboration Five York U & OCAD U Workshops 113 High School Students from Four Schools at Lassonde/York U on Nov. 1, 2013 Data Analytics and Visualization Youth Workshops Schedule Welcome by Dean Kozinski, Lassonde School of Engineering and Dr. Amir Asif, Principal Investigar of CIVDDD Introduction of Presenters and Overview Closing LUNCH Lecture Hall A - 10:00 10:15 AM (15 min) ALL W1: Data Analytics Narrative text data contain the most valuable information for physicians use in their practice and for public and government agencies make their healthcare-related decisions. Understanding consumer opinion of reliability and service quality across an industry like banking can have an impact on a specific company s quality of service as well as enabling an entire industry improve. This workshop will provide interactive applications with step-by-step basic aumated text analytics ols for students grasp and understand fundamental data analytics for a wide variety of industries. Presenter Team: Elnaz Delpisheh, York U W2: Data Visualization This workshop will be looking at some of the principles of data visualization (data viz), and then give a hands-on environmental/observational workshop in situ demonstrate what 2D data viz is and can be, with time experiment with a variety of data viz ols. Presenter Team: Martha Ladly, OCAD U W3: Digital Design New technology has allowed computer components make everyday objects from clothing organic material interactive. In this workshop, we give an overview of new tangible and embedded computing materials and techniques. We will have hands-on activities where we explore how turn everyday objects from clothing vegetables "smart" by connecting them computers. Presenter Team: Foad Hamidi, York U W4: Data in Motion - Animated Herd Behaviours Create 3D animations that showcase intelligent herd behaviours. This work can be related and connected the herd behaviours that are seen in video games and in other simulations (movies).
