Congratulations! You have chosen to give your child the gift of Baptism into our Catholic Church. In order to assure the child s faith will be nurtured after Baptism, and to help us facilitate the Baptism itself, the following preparation is required: An infant may be baptized only with: (1) the consent of the parent(s) or responsible guardian (2) the assurance of Catholic upbringing. A child 7 years or older will be prepared for Baptism through the Religious Education program. Parents must be registered, contributing (through offering envelopes) parishioners of Sacred Heart parish for at least 3 months prior to the Baptism process. At least one parent must be a practicing Catholic (regular Mass attendance). If the parents were not married in the Catholic Church, we will explore the possibility of having the marriage blessed. Both the parents (even if one is not Catholic) and the godparents must attend a Baptism Seminar. Godparents may attend a Baptism Seminar in their own parish, and provide proof of their attendance. If either parents or godparents have attended a Baptism seminar within the last two years and provide proof of attendance, they need not attend again. Only one godparent is required but if two are desired, one must be male and one female. At least one godparent must be a practicing Catholic who has received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. Godparents must contact their parish to complete and return the attached Sponsor Certificate Form. Please follow these steps to ensure the Baptism process goes smoothly: (1) Obtain a Baptism Registration form from our parish office. (2) Call Deacon Bob and Mary Griffin, (619) 437-7131, for an interview appointment. (3) Bring completed Baptism Registration Form to the scheduled interview. The Sponsor Certificate Forms must be received prior to the Baptism. (4) Attend Baptism Seminar.
