THREE KINGS Non-speaking parts. They should carry their gold, frankincense and myrrh and could be accompanied by camels.
SCRIPT Most of the angels are on stage having a tea party, drinking tea and eating cake. Some are listening to music with headphones on, others are reading. NARRATOR All the angels in heaven had a day off. Some of the angels were having a tea party on a fluff y cloud. ANGEL 1 Please pass the sugar. ANGEL 2 One lump or two? NARRATOR Some of them were listening to their favourite music. ANGEL 3 I like this song. ANGEL 4 Can I listen? NARRATOR And the other angels were reading (Angel Reader 3 is reading a large newspaper entitled Angel Express). READER 1 This is a good story. READER 2 This one is better. READER 3 (Leaping up) This one is AMAZING! (The readers gather round the newspaper) NARRATOR Suddenly there was a great commotion in heaven. The other angels flew in to see what all the noise was about. The rest of the angels fly on to the stage and gather round the other angels. READER 1 Read this. A lady called Mary is going to have a baby. READER 2 But He will be a very special baby. READER 3 He will be the Son of God! READER 4 He will be called Jesus! ANGEL 5 This is wonderful! Song 1. NEWS, NEWS! NARRATOR Everyone was very excited. The baby Jesus was going to be born in Bethlehem. The angels wondered if they could do something special for Jesus. ANGEL 6 I think we should do something special for the baby. NARRATOR The angels thought and thought. What could they do? Then one angel had an idea. ANGEL 7 I know! We can sing a song for the baby. ANGEL 8 We ll have to practise very hard. ANGEL 9 How long have we got? ANGEL 10 Two weeks! NARRATOR The angels only had two weeks to get ready. This would have to be an express production! A few days later there was some more news. ANGEL 11 (Takes a newspaper and reads from it) Read this everybody! Mary and Joseph have left for Bethlehem! ANGEL 12 Quick, quick, we need to practise. (The angels rush off the stage)
Mary and Joseph come on stage with their donkey. NARRATOR Far below, Mary rode on a little grey donkey and she and her husband Song 2. MARY AND JOSEPH Mary, Joseph and the donkey leave the stage and the angels come back on. NARRATOR The angels knew that they didn t have much time. They had lots of practising to do if their song was going to be good enough to sing to the baby Jesus. REHEARSAL 1 Rejoice with us CONDUCTOR STOP! That s terrible! NARRATOR Rehearsals were not going very well. There was such a lot of practising to do. The days went by very fast and the angels hoped that their choir would be ready to sing for Jesus. ANGEL 13 (Takes a newspaper and reads from it) Read this everybody! Mary and Joseph have reached Bethlehem! ANGEL 14 Quick, quick, we need to practise! (The angels rush off stage to practise) Mary, Joseph and the three innkeepers enter the stage. Innkeeper 1 stands at one side of the stage, Innkeeper 2 stands in the middle towards the back and Innkeeper 3 stands the other side of the stage. NARRATOR Mary and Joseph had arrived in Bethlehem and they needed somewhere to stay, but all the inns were full. Joseph knocks on the first door and Innkeeper 1 shakes his head. He then tries the second door and Innkeeper 2 also shakes his head. NARRATOR Mary was very tired and soon they came to the last inn. Joseph knocks on Innkeeper 3 s door on the other side of the stage. NARRATOR The innkeeper was very kind. He said that he had a stable where they could stay. Song 3. I ONLY HAVE A LITTLE STABLE The angels come back on stage. NARRATOR Meanwhile the angels were still practising hard.
REHEARSAL 2 Rejoice with us this Christmas CONDUCTOR STOP! That s terrible! NARRATOR The angels were getting worried. There was so much to do. It was a race against time. ANGEL 15 (Takes a newspaper and reads from it) Read this everybody! An enormous star has been seen in the east! The star appears on one side of the stage. ANGEL 16 Quick, quick, we need to practise! NARRATOR The most amazing star had appeared. The angels knew this was a sign that the baby would be born very soon. The star was magnificent. It shone so brightly that everyone could see it from miles around. Song 4. BIG STAR NARRATOR The angel choir kept practising and practising. REHEARSAL 3 Rejoice with us this Christmas CONDUCTOR STOP! That s a bit better! NARRATOR The angel choir had improved a bit, but would they be ready on time? ANGEL 17 (Takes a newspaper and reads from it) Read this everybody! The Angel Gabriel has appeared to some shepherds near Bethlehem. The baby has been born! ANGEL 18 Quick, quick, we need to practise. The angels exit the stage and the shepherds and sheep come on with the Angel Gabriel. NARRATOR On a hill near Bethlehem, a very important angel had fl own down to earth to see the shepherds. He told them to go and see the baby Jesus. Song 5. HEY, SHEPHERDS! The shepherds and sheep exit the stage and the angels re-enter. NARRATOR So, how was all the practising going? Was the angel choir getting any better? REHEARSAL 4 Rejoice with us this Christmas
CONDUCTOR STOP! (He pauses) Not bad! NARRATOR There was still a lot of practising to do though, because the angels wanted their song to be perfect for the baby Jesus, and so they kept practising and practising and practising. ANGEL 19 (Takes a newspaper and reads from it) Read this everybody! Three kings have been sighted! ANGEL 20 They are following the giant star! ANGEL 21 They are on their way to see the baby. ANGEL 22 Quick, quick, we need to practise. The angels leave the stage and the three kings and their camels (optional) enter. NARRATOR Three kings had seen the star in the east. They rode on their camels following the star all the way to Bethlehem. Mary and Joseph (with a manger) and the shepherds join the kings on stage. NARRATOR The angels were so excited. It was time to go and see the baby Jesus and sing their song to him. Through the door of the stable they could see Mary and Joseph, the shepherds and the kings. And there in a manger was the baby Jesus. The three kings gave special gifts to the baby: gold, frankincense and myrrh. The angel choir comes on stage and stands in a semi-circle behind the nativity scene. The conductor should stand at the front of the stage, to the side, to conduct them. NARRATOR The conductor tapped the baton and the angels started to sing. CONDUCTOR One, two, three, four! Song 6 Rejoice with us this Christmas NARRATOR So the angels sang their song for the baby Jesus and they sang it perfectly. What a lovely song for a very special baby.
