BIOGRAPHY Author was born in Surabaya on February 4 th, 1977, from the parents Handrijanto Tjandrakusuma and Sutrisni Limantara. Author grew up with her younger sister, Dina Rosita, in Surabaya. Author attended SDK Johannes Gabriel (1982-1988), SMPK Angelus Custos (1988-1991) and SMAK Frateran (1991-1995) in Surabaya. From 1993 to 1994 Author had the opportunity to get involved in Youth Exchange Programme, sponsored by Rotary Club of Surabaya Darmo, to spend one year in Sydney, Australia where Author attended SCECGS Redlands high school. In 1996 Author started her study in Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and graduated in 2001 with a bachelor degree of Engineering Physics. In year 2000 as a part of the study Author had vocational job training with the company Endress+Hauser GmbH in Maulburg, Germany, where Author encountered her first challenges to write proposals and reports in foreign languages. In early 2002 Author worked for Makro Retails as a management trainee in Jakarta. In June 2002 Author started her career in PT. Baker Atlas Indonesia (Baker Hughes) as a wireline field engineer and spent most of her time in oil and gas drilling and production facilities (onshore and offshore) in Sumatera, Java, Kalimantan, Natuna Sea, and Maluku Isles. In 2008 Author started to pursue her interest to broaden her knowledge in agricultural business by enrolling to Program Studi Manajemen dan Bisnis, Sekolah Pascasarjana, Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) and applied for a position as technical/sales representative in the same company to accommodate the study. xi
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT This research was conducted as a partial fulfilment of the requirements for attaining a Master Degree in Program Studi Manajemen dan Bisnis, Sekolah Pascasarjana, Institut Pertanian Bogor. The objective is to improve the competency of the graduate students. This research was conducted in several small and medium scale Vannamei shrimp farms on the northern shore of East Java, where in-depth interview and observations have been done. This research also involved in-depth interviews with experts in shrimp industry and main actors in shrimp value chain. The execution of this research was not an easy task.
