POLYMER CONCRETE - A MATERIAL CHOICE Meyer Polycrete manholes and structures are manufactured from a composite material consisting of polyester resin, quartz sand, silicate aggregate and quartz filler. As portland cement performs poorly in an acidic environment, it is not used as a binding agent. The cement in a precast concrete manhole is destroyed by sulfuric acid (H2SO4). Only the aggregate remains. Polymer concrete pipe and manholes therefore do not contain cement, thus there is not the corrosion that is commonly found in precast concrete manholes. Polycrete polymer concrete pipe uses a polyester resin to bond the kiln-dried silicate aggregate, thereby creating a dense, corrosion-resistant matrix. For special industrial applications where added chemical resistance may be required, Polycrete can be produced using a vinyl ester resin. The material properties for polycrete manholes are specified in ASTM D 6783, Standard Specification for Polymer Concrete Pipe. The intrinsic bond of resin and aggregate allows the manholes to withstand very high compressive and bending loads with thinner walls and reduced weight compared to standard precast concrete manholes. The result is lower installation and freight costs. MATERIAL BENEFITS Meyer Polycrete manholes are extremely resistant to aggressive soil and sewer gases. Resists ph 1.0 to 10, projected 100 year plus service life No need for linings, coatings, catholic protection, wraps, or other corrosion protection Low maintenance costs The material structure is non-porous, therefore eliminating infiltration or exfiltration MEYER MANHOLES - AN INSTALLATION ADVANTAGE Meyer Polycrete manholes are typically delivered to the construction site as a complete unit. Within a few minutes the manholes can be unloaded, transported to the installation point and lowered into the trench. The manhole is positioned in the trench on a layer of clean sand or aggregate. The manhole is then connected to the installed sewer via factory installed connections. For deep installations, additional manhole sections can be delivered and installed onto the manhole at the jobsite. The Polymer Concrete Manhole System is suitable for any situation and any combination of connections. The pre-fabrication of the manhole base and manhole sections combined with the ability to core-drill the manhole and bonding of polymer concrete with polyester resin allows for the quick delivery of custom manholes within a short time frame. Designing the manhole configuration and connections to the structure in advance minimizes any construction problems. The manhole is ready for immediate installation and connection to the pipes, which reduces construction costs. INSTALLATION BENEFITS: Standard Joint-free Manhole System eliminates infiltration or exfiltration Deep Bury Installations - Tight, efficient joints designed to eliminate infiltration or exfiltration Reduced labor and equipment costs due to quick, easy handling and installation Minimal field fabrication required High strength, high quality, chemical resistance, perfect function and low maintenance requirements make Polycrete Manholes the most cost-efficient manhole system.

POLYCRETE FORCEMAIN MANHOLES An anaerobic environment creates hydrogen sulfide gas (H2S) in sewers. These conditions occur in large diameter gravity sewers which typically are laid on a minimal grade. The result is corrosion by sulfuric acid (H2SO4), which is released and attacks concrete surfaces above the water level. Where force mains enter gravity sewers large quantities of hydrogen sulfide dissolved in the sewage is also released. This is where corrosion prevention becomes a real challenge. Polycrete manholes made of corrosion resistant polymer concrete withstand this attack and are therefore being increasingly used for forcemain manholes. Since the downstream sections of the gravity sewer are also exposed to stronger sulfuric acid attack, we recommend the use of Polymer Concrete Pipe or Flowtite glass-fiber reinforced pipes for a complete corrosion resistant sewer system. POLYCRETE PUMP / LIFT STATIONS The situation is similar with pump / lift stations. Sewage from gravity sewers in some cases lead to high corrosion risks. Most pump / lift stations are generally installed very deep underground to create collection volume below the inlet level. Meyer pump / lift stations are designed with a joint free design that eliminates infiltration / exfiltration. The risk of leaks in connecting joints is eliminated with the factory installed connections. The structure can be delivered as a complete unit resulting in significant construction savings on installation.
