Application Procedures for Counseling: Vocational Rehabilitation Admission Requirements Admission as a classified graduate student in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling requires: 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution 2. A minimum 3.0 GPA in the last 60 units (if GPA is 2.5 3.0, students may be conditionally accepted) 3. Pre-requisites: Abnormal Psychology (PSYC 168); Introduction to Counseling (EDUC 155); and Power, Privilege and Self- Identity (EDUC 156) University Application Requirements 1. CSU APPLICATION FOR GRADUATE SCHOOL ADMISSION: Applicants not currently attending Sacramento State, Sacramento State graduating seniors, and Sacramento State students completing a master s degree or second bachelor s degree must complete and submit the CSU application for graduate school admission online at: www.csumentor.edu no later than March 1, 2014. The $55.00 non-refundable application fee must be paid online at the time the application is submitted. IMPORTANT TIPS When completing enrollment information on the application: Select your Major/Program Objective as o Education (Vocational Rehabilitation) Under Degree Objective select one of the following: o MS Complete the rest of the online graduate school application. Once you pay the fee and click the submit button, print the page that reads, CSU Sacramento Graduate Application Agreement Statement. Submit this page with your Program Application packet. 2. TRANSCRIPTS needed for CSU Application Non-Sac State students: One (1) set of official transcripts (sealed) from all community colleges, colleges, and universities attended. Submit this set of transcripts directly to the Office of Graduate Studies (OGS) no later than March 1, 2014. Attach transcripts or evidence that you are currently enrolled in these courses. **Your application will not be processed without this information.** 4. GRADUATE WRITING PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT: Although evidence of passing this requirement is not required for admission into the Master s degree program, it must be successfully completed prior to submitting your advancement to candidacy for the Master s degree. If you believe that you have an equivalency that fulfills this requirement, download the waiver form from the Office of Graduate Studies (www.csus.edu/gradstudies) and submit it to the department.

5. PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND: Complete all sections of the resume that apply to you. Please note that we distinguish between paid and unpaid work experiences, as well as training received both within and outside of academic programs. It is also highly recommended that you include your own resume with the program application. 6. TRANSCRIPTS: Provide one set of unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. 7. REFERENCES: Provide a list of names, titles, organizations, and phone numbers of the three persons from whom you are requesting letters of recommendation. 8. WRITTEN STATEMENT: Submit a written statement that reflects an understanding of the profession of rehabilitation counseling and exemplifies appropriate written communication skills (approximately 500 words). 9. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Provide three letters of recommendation. Persons writing letters of recommendation should be familiar with your academic work and/or your professional capabilities. Previous and current teachers, instructors, supervisors and employers are all appropriate. Please include the cover sheet with each reference letter. The Office of Graduate Studies will complete the preliminary review and check for completion of minimum university requirements (GPA, residency, baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution). 2. The Supplemental Program application is forwarded to the VRC Program Coordinator. Applications are screened for completion of all undergraduate preparation and GPA. Files are provided to the VRC faculty panel for screening. All students will be advised in writing as to whether or not they are admitted to the program. This process is usually completed within 6-8 weeks following the closing date for applications. **Students are occasionally admitted conditionally, which means that there are certain contingencies that must be met before admission with be permanent (i.e. pre-requisites, graduate writing requirement). Academic Advising Upon admission to the program, you will be assigned to an academic advisor whom you should meet prior to scheduling your courses each semester.
