A Note to Parents Cherub Wings is an entertaining and inspirational production geared to ages 3-7. Each episode includes a visualized prayer, an illustrated Bible story, high concept kid music videos, a scripture song and loads of fun! The purpose of Cherub Wings is to support parents and teachers who are interested in instilling Christian principles in the hearts and minds of children in a fun and exciting way. The Cherub Wings programs illustrate the meaning of Bible lessons with the help of catchy songs that often incorporate Bible verses, a story line involving Cherub and Chubby working through a relevant challenge, and a supporting story involving real people who are learning the same lesson. The programs explore relationships and situations that any child in the world might encounter while growing up, and they offer sound Christian guidance and a strong foundation rooted in Biblical teaching. These excellent DVDs were created to offer parents a wholesome entertainment alternative for children that encourage strong character development and help young minds learn to make the right moral choices. This episode of Cherub Wings, entitled Little Heroes, helps children learn the importance of showing appreciation and consideration for others and not to judge them by the work they do. Young viewers will enjoy discovering why Jesus washed His disciples feet, and the songs and Bible story will help them understand that the best way to serve God is to serve others. We hope you and your children have fun watching Cherub Wings. We d love to hear what you think of the series, as well as any ideas you may have for upcoming episodes. A Note to Teachers The Cherub Wings DVD series offers excellent opportunities for both individual and class discussion by illustrating many of the lessons that Jesus taught His disciples. The suggestions in this parent s and teacher s guide and the activities provided in the student s guide help engage children s imaginations in exploring each lesson. Children are able to internalize the Christian principles each program offers, while having fun in the process. We hope you enjoy them, too. One Final Thought The DVDs in the Cherub Wings series are offered for educational support purposes only. They are not intended to take the place of the religious instruction provided by parents and teachers. In addition to teaching from the Bible, the programs use songs and stories to present religious concepts in an imaginative form that children can easily understand. 3

Little Heroes Concept, Objectives and Synopsis Little Heroes teaches about respecting others and showing kindness and courtesy. In this new Cherub Wings episode, Chubby learns that the truly great heroes in God s eyes are those that are willing to be humble, just like Jesus was on earth. I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me. (Matthew 25:40) Little Heroes teaches that Jesus came not be served, but to serve, and that, to truly serve God, we must put others first. Objective We often take those that help us for granted. The objective of this episode is to help children appreciate their parents and teachers as well as service people around them. Synopsis Chubby abandons Cherub and their task of yard work to compete in the Cherub Champion Chariot Chase. He wants to be a champion so he can win a trophy because that will mean he s better than anyone else. But Cherub gently reminds him that serving others is what makes us best in God s eyes. Chubby is shown Gerard and Jerome, paying a visit to a great man, Uncle Jarvis. They imagine Uncle Jarvis to be wealthy and important, but he turns out to be a humble farmer who helps people in caring ways. Chubby also learns the Bible story of Jesus washing His disciples feet. In the end, he skips the race to help someone in need. To his surprise, he is presented with the trophy not for winning the race but for serving others. 4

A Summary of the Lesson John 13:12-17 So after He had washed their feet, and had taken His garments, and was set down again, He said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? Ye call Me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I, then, am your Lord and Master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them. Commentary Jesus was very wise when He washed His disciples feet because He knew it was the best way to share a lesson that they needed to learn. Jesus disciples mistakenly thought of a master or leader as someone who is served by others. But Jesus wanted them to understand that, in God s kingdom, a master is one who serves God by serving others. He taught that, in God s view, no single person is more important than any other, and that the best way to live is to serve others, showing consideration and appreciation for others in all that we do. Additional Bible Verses The following are additional passages from Scripture that reinforce the lesson presented in John 13:12-17. Please note that we have paraphrased the verses for the children in their study guide. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Galatians 5:14 Paraphrase: Love your neighbor as yourself! - Galations 5:14 I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me. -Matthew 25:40 Paraphrase: Jesus said Whatever you do to others, you are doing to Me. -Matthew 25:40 5

Thank You Prayer Jesus teaches us how to be the best people we can be. To be the best, we are kind to others, and show them respect, courtesy and appreciation. Here is a prayer to thank Jesus for all He teaches us. My Thank You Prayer For all the blessings that You send For all the fun and all my friends For living here inside my heart For promising You ll never part For prayer and for Your loving Word For this and more, I thank You Lord. Dialogue and Discussion with Younger Children Who is your favorite character in Little Heroes? Why do you like this character the best? Do any of the characters remind you of someone you know? What do you think Jerome learned when he saw Uncle Jarvis helping people on the way to the farm? What do you think it means to be important? Can you say the Golden Rule? How can you apply what you learned? Do you have a story of when someone showed you appreciation and how it made you feel? Who can we appreciate today? What did you like most about this Cherub Wings episode? 6

Dialogue and Discussion with Older Children What should you do? Here are some scenarios that encourage children to think about the spirit behind the Golden Rule. These questions will spark a lively discussion, while providing an opportunity to reinforce the concepts in the Little Heroes episode of the Cherub Wings series. What if you were in a grocery store helping your mother shop for food and you saw someone in a wheel chair reaching for a box of cookies on the shelf. The cookies are out of this person s reach. What should you do? 1. Move out of the way to give the person in the wheel chair more room. 2. Smile and hand him the box of cookies, if you can reach them, and ask if he needs help reaching for anything else. 3. Ask your mother to hand him the box of cookies, if they are too high for you to reach, and then smile and tell him to have a nice day. What if you had finished your homework and begun to play video games for the 30 minutes you are allowed. Your mother, after working hard all day and stopping at the store, opens the front door, juggling a bag of groceries, her purse and her briefcase. There are more bags waiting in the car. What should you do? 1. Keep playing because this is the only time you are allowed to play video games. 2. Keep playing but call out to your mother to leave the bags in the car and you ll bring them in later. 3. Pause your game and greet your mother and help her before going to the car to help bring in the bags. 7

What if your father got home from work on Friday evening, and hurried out to mow the yard before dark so he can go to your soccer game early Saturday. In the night, it rains. On Saturday morning, your father gets up extra early to make you a nice breakfast. You look out the window and see the wet grass. You don t want to play on a wet field. What should you do? 1. Roll over and go back to sleep, even though you know your father is making you breakfast. 2. Ask your father if you can skip the game, even though he s gotten up early for you and your teammates are depending on you. 3. Put on your soccer uniform, hurry to the kitchen to set the table and thank your father for working late so he can be with you at your game. What if a new student were starting his first day at your school. He has no friends yet because he is new. After school, you see him get off the bus at your stop and walk, alone, down the sidewalk. What should you do? 1. Run past him to catch up with your friends, since you don t know him. 2. Smile, say hi, and run past him to catch up with your friends, because that s who you d rather be with. 3. Smile, introduce yourself, walk with him and get to know him a little more. What if you were taking a trip with your family and you are waiting at the airport, which is very crowded. All of the seats in the waiting area are full. An older woman is standing near you, waiting with everyone else. You are sitting in a chair listening to your mother read you a story. What should you do? 1. Keep your seat because it s your favorite story. 2. Smile at the woman to make her feel better. 3. Excuse yourself from your mother, smile at the woman and offer her your seat. 8
