We, knowing that Christ has come and now lives as our Savior, have it even better than the Israelites in being able to properly worship. God, our ultimate object of worship, called his people to himself and showed them why he was, and is, worthy of worship. He called them, and us, out of the darkness and into the beautiful light that draws us to his heart and into his throne room to worship him. Lead the children in confessing their faith by teaching the following catechism questions. (1 minute) 1. Q. Who made you? A. God 2. Q. What else did God make? A. God made all things First Catechism Questions 1-2 Reading of the Word Read scripture. (3-5 minutes) Psalm 95:1-7 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! 3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. 5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. 6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our aker! 7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. (SV) 1 2 Genesis 1: Heaven and arth First this: God created the Heavens and arth all you see, all you don t see. arth was a dark soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness. God s Spirit watched like a bird above the deep, dark water. 3-5 God spoke: Light! And light appeared. God saw that light was good. God named the light Day, he named the dark Night. It was evening, and it was morning Day One. 6-8 God spoke: Sky! And there it was: he named sky the Heavens; It was evening, and it was morning Day Two. 9-10 God spoke: Land, appear! And there it was. God named the land arth. He named the pooled water Ocean. God saw that it was good. 11-13 God spoke: arth! Grow all varieties of green plants, very sort of fruit tree. And there it was. God saw that it was good. It was evening, it was morning Day Three. 14-15 God spoke: Lights! Come out! Shine in Heaven s sky! Separate Day from Night. And there it was. 16-19 God made two big lights, the larger to take charge of Day, The smaller to be in charge of Night; and he made the stars. God saw that it was good. It was evening, it was morning Day Four. 20-23 God spoke: Ocean, fill with fish and all sea life! Birds, fly through the sky over arth! God saw that it was good. God blessed them: Fish in the waters have children! Birds in the sky have children! It was evening, it was morning Day Five. 24-25 God spoke: arth, become alive with every kind of life! And there it was: wild animals of every kind, cattle of all kinds, every sort of reptile and bug. God saw that it was good. 26-28 God spoke: Let us make people to reflect our image, so they can take care of the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, and, yes, arth itself. God created people in his image, reflecting 1:1-2 WK ON: Call to Worship Confession of Faith 4

his nature. He created them male and female. God blessed them: Have children! Take care of every living thing on the arth. 29-30 Then God said, I ve given you every sort of plant and fruit tree for food. To everything that moves and breathes, I give whatever grows out of the ground for food. And there it was. 31 God looked over everything he had made; it was so good, so very good! It was evening, it was morning Day Six. (y First essage) Prayer Give a prayer of adoration and thanksgiving for our creator, shepherd, and LORD. (1-2 minutes) Hearing the Word Teach the lesson to the children using the text below as a guide. Use creation images to help illustrate the lesson. (3-5 minutes for lesson; 10-15 minutes for activity) Before David was a great King, he was a little boy, a child just like you. ven as a child he loved to write songs to God. He worshipped God when he was very young. God calls all of us to worship him. We are going to learn part of this Psalm of David that is often used to call us to worship when we meet with everyone in our church. Come let us worship and bow down David, the great Call to Worship writer understood that Jesus was the Word spoken in Creation long before John wrote, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God verything was created by him and without him was not anything made that was made (John 1:1, 3). 3 For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. 5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. We are called to worship God in this Psalm because he created everything. Let s look at all God made. (Hold up the images for each day of creation.) Day 1: Light: Day & Night Day 2: Heavens Day 3: arth, Seas, & Plants Day 4: Sun, oon, & Stars Day 5: Animals of Sky & Sea Day 6: People & Animals on Land 5 WK ON: Call to Worship (Reading the Word Continued)

WK ON: Call to Worship (Reading the Word Continued) If you could create anything, what would it be? Ask the children to begin creating their favorite thing without giving them anything. Can any of you create something from nothing? Can God? ACTIVITY: Give each child play dough and have them create a model of something in God s great creation (sun, moon, stars, animal, person, fish, bird, flower, tree ). When they are finished, let each child show what they have made. Have each child give thanks by saying, Thank you God for making. Adam and ve worshipped God in this way, thanking him for all that he had made. Jesus was there in creation and walked in the garden and talked with Adam and ve. All of creation calls us to worship Him. 6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our aker! 7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. He created us, and we belong to him as the sheep of his pasture. David was a shepherd when he was a boy, and he understood what it meant to be God s sheep in His pasture. Sheep were always in need of a good pasture and a good shepherd. We, as God s children, are in need of everything. He made us and takes care of us. Jesus is the Great Shepherd of the sheep and he alone is who we worship. Let s continue our worship now by thanking Jesus for creating all things and for taking care of us so well. Benediction Recite the following verse. (1 minute) The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
