NEW TESTAMENT MATTHEW 2 JESUS IS BORN IN BETHLEHEM Matthew 2 1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king (Josephus called him a terror; for he would just explode.), behold, there came wise men from the east (From Babylon, East of Jerusalem.) to Jerusalem, (The Bible tells us 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem (House of Bread); (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) (Jesus was a Jew; I am the bread of life.) 5 To be taxed (registered) with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger (A feeding trough for cattle.); because there was no room for them in the inn. 8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night (No flocks in winter in December.). 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people (Both nations of Israel, Judah and later all nations of the earth.). 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord (The Messiah, the anointed.). 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger (Feeding trough for cattle.). 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. 15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us (Started with shepherds; the people of Israel is still aware there was a Messiah and later deception crept in after the destruction of the Temple.) (Shepherds highest calling took care of the sheep. They took off right then.). 16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger (Feeding trough for cattle.). 17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child (word of mouth). 18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered (treasured) them in her heart (Mary didn t fully comprehend all that was going on.). 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God (The Most High.) for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. Luke 2:4-20)
2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him (They knew He was going to be born and they thought he was going to deliver them from Rome.0. 3 When Herod (An Edomite and raised as a Jew.)the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him (All knew Herod was going He was going to be born and would be afraid of His power.). 4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. 5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, 6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor (Ruler), that shall rule my people Israel (The Bible tells us 2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel (The Prince of Peace.); whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting (Christ was forever.). 3 Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel (The testing of Christ, the Prince of Peace, to be ruler over Israel; not another nation) Micah 5:2-3). (Born to rule over the love of Jacob, His wife.) 7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men (Leaders of the community of Israel.), enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also. (This was a lie; demonic spirits.) 9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star (Angel, stars don t do this, angels do.), which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was (A light from Babylon to Bethlehem.). 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 11 And when they were come into the house (Not a manger no longer a baby; the Holyday was over; the counting was over and He was in a house. The family hadn t gone home yet.), they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.(common things that are brought to a King; the King of Israel, Saviour.) (The Bible tells us 23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and
believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. 25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. John 5:23-27) (Divinely told by an angel, vs. 13.) 12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way (The Bible tells us 19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life. 21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel. Matthew 2:19-21). 13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt (A place of safety, not always bondage.), and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him (Edom always tried to kill his brother Jacob.). 14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: 15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. 16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked (tricked) of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the (male) children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying (God all along wove the story and now is coming to pass.), 18 In Rama (Place around Bethlehem.) was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not (Mother of Joseph and Benjamin; ½ of the Benjamin went with Judah; so some of her children through Benjamin died. The Bible tells us 15 Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not (They are no more; the kids were killed by Herod.) Jeremiah 31:15.). (God said enough is enough.) 19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel (Do not call it Palestine; land of the Philistines.): for they are dead which sought the young child's life. 21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus (Son of Herod.) did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee (district): 23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene (The Bible tells us 39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth (Law not done away.) 40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him (Genuine servant of God do all to obey God s Law.). Luke 2:39-40). (The Bible tells us 1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch (Christ) shall grow out of his roots: 2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; 3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: 4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth: with the rod of his mouth (with righteousness), and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. 5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. Isaiah 11:1-5 (This is God s Kingdom. Read all of Isaiah 11.) MEMORY VERSE That all men should honour the Son even as they honor the father. John 5:23 BELOW IS THE SABBATH SCHOOL LESSON FOR TOTS
HONOR THE SON EVEN AS THEY HONOUR THE FATHER JOHN 5:23-27 THAT ALL MEN SHOULD HONOUR THE SON, EVEN AS THEY HONOUR THE FATHER. HE THAT HONOURETH NOT THE SON HONOURETH NOT THE FATHER WHICH HAS SENT HIM. VERILY, VERILY, I SAY UNTO YOU, HE THAT HEARETH MY WORD, AND BELIEVETH ON HIM THAT SENT ME, HATH EVERLASTING LIFE, AND SHALL NOT COME INTO COMDEMNATION; BUT IS PASSED FROM DEATH UNTO LIFE. VERILY, VERILY, I SAY UNTO YOU, THE HOUR IS COMING, AND IS COMING, AND NOW IS, WHEN THE DEAD SHALL HEAR THE VOICE OF THE SON OF GOD: AND THEY THAT HEAR SHALL LIVE. FOR AS THE FATHER HATH LIFE IN HIMSELF; SO THAT HE GIVEN IT TO THE SON TO HAVE LIFE IN HIMSELF; AND HATH GIVEN HIM AUTHORITY TO EXECUTE JUDGMENT ALSO, BECAUSE HE IS THE SON OF MAN.
THAT ALL MEN SHOULD HONOUR THE WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HONOUR THE SON AND THE FATHER WHO SENT HIM? IT MEANS TO GLORIFY GOD IN OUR MINDS AND HEARTS AS WE HONOUR OUR PARENTS. SON, EVEN AS THEY HONOUR THE FATHER. HE THAT HONOURETH NOT THE SON HONOURETH NOT THE FATHER WHICH HAS SENT HIM. JOHN 5:23-24
