A Fixed Annuity from John Hancock 1109:FA0227 Issued by John Hancock Life Insurance Company (U.S.A.) New York: John Hancock Life Insurance Company of New York

Fixed Annuity Update june 2012 Certain features related to this product have been revised. Please contact your financial advisor if you have any questions. Discontinuation of Family Resource Benefits Effective June 1, 2012, John Hancock is discontinuing eldercare information resource services that were previously an additional feature of certain John Hancock annuity contracts.* This decision was based on extremely low utilization rates for the services. Marketing materials identify these information services as Senior Link, Advantage List, CARESolutions, or Family Resources. The Nursing Home-Chronic/Critical Illness Waiver, which is offered on some products in conjunction with SeniorLink and Advantage List as part of CARESolutions, will not be affected and will remain available. * Changes apply to in force and new contracts of all John Hancock fixed immediate annuities, fixed deferred book value and market value adjusted annuities, as well as Revolution, Declaration and Patriot variable annuities. Contact your financial advisor or visit www.jhannuities.com for more information, including the prospectus that contains complete details on investments, as well as other information about the insurance company, which should be carefully considered. Please read the prospectus carefully prior to purchasing. The prospectus contains this and other information on the product. Typically, MVA fixed annuities do not have up-front sales loads or ongoing expenses. The insurance company s costs are built into the interest rate paid on the contract. Additionally, your contract may be subject to an early withdrawal charge (also called a contingent deferred sales charge). You should consult the prospectus for the MVA fixed annuity that you are considering for the specific early withdrawal charge schedule and the market value adjustment calculation. To invest safely in a market value adjusted annuity, you should fully evaluate the financial strength of the issuing insurance company and carefully read the annuity product disclosure. John Hancock Fixed Annuities are distributed by John Hancock Distributors LLC, member of FINRA. An annuity is a long-term contract designed for retirement purposes, such as asset accumulation and distribution, and may not be suitable for meeting short-term objectives. John Hancock Fixed Annuities are issued and administered by John Hancock Life Insurance Company (U.S.A.), Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304 (not licensed in New York). After years of saving, you know what you want... You re safety conscious, which is why you refuse to risk your savings by chasing investment returns. Your high standards apply not only to your investment decisions; they also apply to the company to which you trust your future.... but will you have what you need? You may have to rely on your own investments for much of your retirement income Due to the changing landscape of retirement, traditional income sources like Social Security and pensions may not provide enough retirement income to meet your needs. Corporate pension plans are declining At their peak, 46% of working Americans were covered by a pension plan. In 2000, the number started shifting. By 2005, it had steadily declined to 17% and it continues to tick downward annually.* Corporate pensions are no longer a given Corporate Pension 46% 43% 36% 17% The security of Social Security is questionable By 2017, the Social Security Administration will begin paying more in benefits than is collected in taxes. Therefore, it cautions workers to save for retirement on a personal basis and through employer-sponsored or other retirement plans.** 1980 1990 2000 2005 2010 Years *Standard d &P Poor s, 2009. **Source: Based on the intermediate assumptions from the Social Security Trustees Annual Report to the Congress (2008). 1

A strategy that works with you Whether you are searching for a reliable place to invest your retirement assets, an attractive return for your retirement rollover funds, additional stability to your investment portfolio, or a way to provide consistency of returns, you can consider it in a John Hancock Fixed Annuity. a fixed annuity offers many benefits Your money goes to work immediately When you invest in a John Hancock Fixed Annuity, 100% of your money goes to work immediately at competitive rates that are guaranteed, regardless of market fluctuations. You can choose a single guarantee period from 3, 5, 7, or 10 years, or whatever is available at the time of purchase. When selecting a guarantee period you should consider your liquidity needs for the period s duration. Tax deferral can have a powerful impact Tax-Deferred Annuity (no taxes illustrated) $300,000 $250,000 $200,000 $150,000 $100,000 Taxable Investment (assumes 25% federal income tax rate applied annually to earnings) 0 10 20 30 Years $324,340 $242,726 The chart highlights the impact of tax deferral, with a hypothetical $100,000 purchase over a 30-year period earning a constant 4% annual return for both the taxable and tax-deferred purchase.¹ There is no guarantee of principal or interest if withdrawals are made or the contract is surrendered early. At withdrawal, tax-deferred performance would be reduced by income taxes on the gains. This chart is for illustrative purposes only and should not be viewed as representative of past, current or future performance of a John Hancock Fixed Annuity. Withdrawals are subject to a 10% federal tax penalty if made prior to age 59 1 /2. Typically, MVA fixed annuities do not have up-front sales loads or ongoing expenses. The insurance company s costs are built into the interest rate paid on the contract. Additionally, your contract may be subject to an early withdrawal charge and an MVA. Please note an MVA is based on a formula which responds positively or negatively to interest rate movements. See the What is a Market Value Adjustment (MVA)? section on page 4 for further details. Illustrated rates are neither an estimate nor a guarantee for the future. Actual results may be higher or lower. A portion of the earnings from taxable alternative investments may be subject to lower maximum tax rates on capital gains and dividends, which may be lower than the federal income tax rate used to calculate the results. Please note state income taxes have not been assumed in the calculation as these vary. You should consider your personal investment horizon and income tax bracket, both current and anticipated, when making an investment decision as these may further impact the results of the comparison. 3

i What is a Market Value Adjustment (MVA)? Withdrawals from your annuity may be subject to an MVA. The MVA is based on a formula that responds to interest rate movements. It reflects the change in prevailing interest rates from the time you invest, until the time of withdrawal. For example, if interest rates have dropped since you first purchased your annuity, the amount you receive could actually be higher than the amount you expected to withdraw. If rates have risen, however, you may lose the interest earned and a portion of your purchase payment. Withdrawals made at the end of the term are not subject to an MVA. Access to your money when you need it The following withdrawals can be made without a withdrawal charge or an MVA: Amounts up to the interest credited over the previous 12 months, assuming no other withdrawals; or If greater, withdrawals needed to satisfy IRS required minimum distributions, as calculated by John Hancock. Please note that withdrawals other than those described above will be subject to a withdrawal charge, which will never exceed 7% and will decline on an annual basis (please refer to the accompanying fact card for details). Also please note that all interest withdrawals will reduce interest earnings due to the interruption of compounding. Regular income payment options including lifetime income You may choose to convert your investment into a guaranteed income stream. It can be paid to you over a specified period of time or as an income stream for life. Annuitization before the end of a guarantee period will be subject to an MVA. Flexibility allows for greater control Within the thirty days following the end of the guarantee period, you may request one of the following without an MVA or withdrawal charge: Move the money to any available guarantee period. Begin annuity payouts. Withdraw some or all of your account value. If no election is made within the thirty days following the end of the guarantee period, your money will be automatically moved to a one-year guarantee period, or if not available, the shortest term offered, to provide you with the time to choose what to do next. Withdrawal charges related to the new guarantee period may be applicable. See prospectus for details. 4
