General information: - holders of Israeli travel documents (orange or brown or blue), - holders of green/red/black travel documents/passports issued by the Palestinian Authority (PA) (which must bear the residence West Bank or Gaza ) and - holders of blue Jordanian passports have to apply for a visa (e.g. tourist (C-visa), business (C-visa), airport transit (A-visa) etc.). According to the Schengen Agreement Israeli citizens holding an Israeli passport (blue) can travel without a visa up to 90 days within any half year in the Schengen countries. Members of the Schengen Agreement are at present: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republik, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.

For longer stays and stays other than for tourist, business or transit purposes a residence permit (D-visa) is needed. IMPORTANT: Please do not call, as no questions concerning your application will be answered. The Representative Office will inform you when the passport is ready. II. Tourist visas for short stays up to 90 days (C-visa) Since 1995 tourist visas are issued as Schengen visas. It is valid for travelling in all the member countries of the Schengen Agreement (see above). When should I apply at the Representative Office/Embassy? You should apply if Germany is the main or only destination of your visit or - in the absence of a main destination - if Germany is the country of your first entry. Please note that you have to submit your application in person at the German Representative Office in Ramallah or at its branch in Gaza. If you cannot apply in person, please contact the visa section for further instructions. What should I submit? 1. A signed passport or travel document, which must be valid for at least three months after the expiry date of the visa applied for. The reentry-visa for Israel must also be valid for at least three months (for holders of Israeli travel documents only). 2. One official visa application form with one photos 3. Documents that prove the purpose of your trip a) for private visit: aa) invitation from your familiy or friends; written comittment that they will support you financially during your stay in Germany ( 66-68 German Residence Act -"Verpflichtungserklärung" certified by the competent Ausländerbehörde). ab) your employer s confirmation of your employment or employment contract or your school s/university s confirmation of your registration. ac) once your visa has been approved a confirmed return ticket and sufficient travel health insurance (minimum 30.000 -coverage of medical expenses) have to be presented upon collection. b) business trip/exibitions/fairs: ba) invitation from your German business partner including his/her committment to pay for any costs (i.e. unexpected medical treatment) that may arise during your visit. bb) certificate of your own business or your companys buisness by the chamber of commerce and letter from your company stating your postition in the company and the purpose of your journey. bc) the statements of account of your company of the last three months. bd) once your visa has been approved sufficient travel health insurance (minimum 30.000 -coverage of medical expenses) have to be presented upon collection. be

c) trip to seminars, conventions, exhibitions etc.: ca) invitation of the German organisation, institution or organizer. cb) certificate of your own business by your chamber of commerce or letter from your company stating your position in the company and the purpose of your journey. cc) the statements of account of the company of the last three months cd) once your visa has been approved sufficient travel health insurance (minimum 30.000 -coverage of medical expenses) have to be presented upon collection. ce) Invitation and Registration form ( Messeausweis ) cf) hotel booking The documents listed above are the minimum requirements. Individual applications may require further documents. Please be advised that the Representative Office/Embassy only accepts applications filled in completely and truly. The time it takes to issue the A-,B-, or C-visa depends on your nationality and/or residence. (For Palestinians for example it takes on 10 to 12 days). Please apply as early as possible, especially during the summer months and before public holidays. III. Airport transit visa (A-visa) Travellers passing through an airport of the Schengen Area without leaving the transit area of this airport may still need an airport transit visa. Palestinians holding a passport/travel document issued by the Palestinian Authority (PA) do not require an airport transit visa. Palestinians holding travel documents from Jordan, Libanon or Syria do need an airport transit visa.

IV. Requirements for residence permits (D-visa) A. Students Students must obtain a residence permit before entering Germany. The following documents have to be presented: 1. A signed passport or travel document, which must be valid for at least three months after the expiry date of the visa applied for. 2. Two official visa application forms with two photos attached to each application form. 3. School leaving certificate with German or English translation signed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) 4. Letter from the University in Germany ( Zulassung, "Bewerberbescheinigung" or admittance to "Studienkolleg") 5. Letter of admittance for a German language course if the study will be in German 6. For Studies in English, a German language course will be part of the Programme 7. A letter of scholarship has to be presented or a blocked account of a special sum for foreign students in a German bank account. This sum will be blocked with the Federal Republic of Germany as beneficiary. B. Family If you are married to a German citizen residing in Germany or to a non- German citizen with a residence permit in Germany you may request a residence permit in order to be united with your spouse. The same applies to minor children whose parents reside in Germany. Please present the following documents: 1. A signed passport or travel document, which must be valid for at least three months after the expiry date of the visa applied for. 2. Two official visa application forms with two photos attached to each application form. 3. Your marriage certificate or birth certificate of a minor applicant with German or English translation and legalization, if necessary (for Israeli certificates an apostille of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs is sufficient). 4. certificate of successful attendance of the A1-level language course at the Goethe Institute. This certificate is not necessary, in case your spouse is not a German citizen but citizen of one of the member states of the European Union or if you have a child under age who is German citizen. The following documents should be presented at the Embassy or may also be presented by your spouse to the local immigration office in Germany. 4. Copy of spouse s German passport or foreign passport with a residence permit. 5. Copy of accommodation lease in Germany. 6. Documentation concerning spouse s income (working contract, statements of account). C. Scientists/Scholarships/Employment If you intend to do scientific research in Germany and you receive a scholarship from Germany (e.g. DAAD, Humboldt, Minerva) you have to apply for a national German visa (D-visa) before entering Germany. Please present the documents from your university (award of scholarship, letter of

admittance, etc.) as well as a certificate/proof of exams from your previous school or university, certificate of successful attendance of the B2-level language course at the Goethe Institute. The possibility of taking up employment in Germany amongst other things is dependent on agreements with the country of the applicant s nationality and therefore on his citizenship. If you have a working contract with a German firm, please present the contract. There are different cases for working vis A visa for working purposes can only be granted to citizens of certain countries. (Please enquire at the German Rep. Office or the Embassy before filing your application). In addition every applicant has to present: 1. A signed passport or travel document, which must be valid for at least three months after the expiry date of the visa applied for. 2. -One official visa application forms with one photos attached to each application form for Schengen-visa (C-visa). -Two official visa application forms with two photos attached to each application form (D-visa). Please note: For a Schengen-visa (C-visa) all documents must be presented in original form. For a national German visa (D-visa) all documents must be presented in original plus one photocopy a non-refundable fee of 60,- Euro will be charged for the visa, payable in NIS according to the daily exchange rate.
