MARIAN NOVENA FOR OUR CLERGY DIOCESE OF BAKER October 5 13, 2015 October is the month of the Holy Rosary! One of the main reasons is October 7 is the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. This feast was introduced in 1571 by Pope Saint Pius V (1504-1572) in honor and gratitude of the Blessed Virgin Mary for her intercession resulting in the miraculous victory of the Christian forces on October 7, 1571, in the famous Battle of Lepanto. As our clergy meet in assembly October 5-8, Mother Mary s Daughters of the Diocese of Baker offers a Marian Novena inviting all parishioners to pray for our clergy. This novena may be prayed as a parish community, as a family or individual, and most certainly in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Please check with your local parish office for scheduling and availability of parish resources. Priestly joy is deeply bound up with God s holy and faithful people, for it is an eminently missionary joy. (Pope Francis, Chrism Mass, April 17, 2014)
Opening Prayer (each day of the novena) O Mother Mary, dear Lady of Fatima, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary and Queen of Peace, we bring to you all your chosen priestly sons and brothers of your Son, Jesus, the Divine High Priest. We pray, consecrate them to you, and with your loving husband Joseph, guide them as they gather mothers and fathers to imitate your holiness in bringing their families into greater intimacy with your Divine Son. Teach them to pray for Peace in the world through the teachings of Holy Mother Church, in union with our Holy Father Francis and the Magisterium, through the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the Most Holy Rosary, which guide us in perfecting the mission of Evangelization and Catechesis. We pray for Holy Father and our bishops and all those called to the holy priesthood to be in perfect imitation of your Son, the Divine High Priest, who instituted this holy vocation. We pray to you and St. Joseph that they become more like your Son and that they make you more known and loved. O Mother Mary, Mother of the Clergy, please take all that is in our hearts and present it to your Son, Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Return to us then, all the graces that only He can give to unite all our wills to His most Divine Will so that we may have the only true and lasting Peace, your Son, in our hearts, in our homes, in our nation and all the nations of the world. Amen Fiat! Pray The Apostles Creed Our Father Hail Mary (one five-decade Rosary)
DAY 1 OUR LADY OF FATIMA - FIRST SATURDAY, OCT. 5 th May our Bishop Liam Cary, his priests, deacons, and future priests continue to lead all families to honor their Heavenly Mother and her call to a renewed fidelity to penance, prayer and devotion to her Sorrowful Immaculate Heart. Reading (John 19:26) When Jesus saw His mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, Woman, behold, thy son. Then He said to the disciple, Behold, thy mother. And from that hour the disciple took her into his home. Our Lord to Sr. Lucia, oldest of the three shepherd visionaries of Fatima Messages: May 29 th, 1930, regarding the five consecutive First Saturdays he desired for mankind to perform:... It is because of five kinds of offenses and blasphemies against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, namely: blasphemies against her Immaculate Conception, against her perpetual virginity, against the divine and spiritual maternity of Mary, blasphemies involving the rejection and dishonoring of her images, and the neglect of implanting in the hearts of children a knowledge and love of this Immaculate Mother. DAY 2 OUR LADY OF THE CLERGY - MOTHER OF HER CHOSEN SONS - SUNDAY, OCT. 6 th May our Lady keep her chosen sons in the holiest and greatest intimacy with her Beloved Son, Jesus, the Divine High Priest, reminding them that they did not become priests for themselves but for others; to lead all families into deeper respect for the Holy Family and the Holy Eucharist. Reading (John 6:54-55) Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. He who eats my flesh, and drinks my blood has life everlasting and I will raise him up in the last day. Jesus, knowing that the hour had come for him to pass out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, loved them to the end. (John 13:1) Our most Loving Redeemer, knowing that He must leave this earth and return to His Father as soon as He should have accomplished the work of our Redemption by His Death, and seeing that the hour of His Death was now come, would not leave us alone in this valley of tears, and therefore, what did He do? He instituted the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist, in which He left us His whole Self. St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori +1787
DAY 3 OUR LADY OF FATIMA AS OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE - MONDAY, OCT. 7 th With the greatest and most tender love, may our Lady make herself known to each of her priestly sons and console them and remind them, that in their priestly mission to lead the family of God, not to be afraid for she is with them always. Reading (Romans 10:14-15) How then are they to call upon him in whom they have not believed? But how are they to believe him whom they have not heard? And how are they to hear, if no one preaches? And how are men to preach unless they be sent? The late John Cardinal Wright, head of the Vatican s Congregation for the Clergy, responsible for Catechetics in the Universal Church, stated that preaching is the first duty of a priest. Vatican Council II said so. Offering the Sacrifice of the Mass is the greatest power of the priesthood and nothing can compare with it. For people to participate fruitfully in the Mass, however, they must first have faith. For faith there must be preaching. Teaching is an extension and form of preaching. (GUIDANCE for FUTURE PRIESTS, Fr. R.J. Fox pg.15) DAY 4 OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY - TUESDAY, OCT. 8 th We pray our Blessed Mother is honored by her priestly sons through the presentation of the Most Holy Rosary and the celebration of the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass as the most powerful way of bringing Peace, Who is Jesus Christ, to the world. Reading (Isaiah 61:10) I rejoice heartily in the Lord, in my God is the joy of my soul; For he has clothed me with a robe of salvation, and wrapped me in a mantle of justice, like a bride bedecked with her jewels. This commemorative feast was established by Saint Pius V on the anniversary of the naval victory won by the Christian fleet at Lepanto. The victory was attributed to the help of the holy Mother of God whose aid was invoked through praying the rosary. The celebration of this day invites all to meditate upon the mysteries of Christ, following the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary who was so singularly associated with the incarnation, passion and glorious resurrection of the Son of God.
DAY 5 OUR LADY OF THE EUCHARIST - WEDNESDAY, OCT. 9 th May Our Lady of the Eucharist, Mother of the Divine High Priest, Jesus Christ, embrace each of her Chosen Sons, drawing them deep within her Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, preparing them to become Persona Christi, by assisting our Bishop and his Priestly Sons, in a most intimate way, when celebrating Holy Mass, to recognize and believe in their mystical union with Christ s True Presence. Take this, all of you, and eat of it for this is My Body which will be given up for you. Take this, all of you, and drink from it, for this is the chalice of My Blood, the Blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of Me. Reading (Luke 1:28,42) Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb! O Blessed Mother, place in the hearts of your chosen sons your first Eucharistic Moment ~ the moment the Holy Spirit overshadowed you and laid the Son of God, within your womb. With this thought may your priestly sons be ever thankful for their mother s Yes to God and may they always protect and teach all parents the sanctity of all human life from the moment of conception to natural death, and to protect the sanctity of the Eucharistic Life, the True Presence of Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. DAY 6 THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION - THURSDAY, OCT. 10 th May all men who respond Yes to become Mother Mary s Chosen Sons and Chosen Brothers of her Son, turn to you Mary Immaculate, living tabernacle of God, in Whom Eternal Wisdom willed to receive adoration of both men and angels, (St. Louis Marie De Montfort) for protection against all doubt that you are the Spiritual Mother, created immaculate to conceive immaculately the Son of God. For nothing is impossible with God! Reading (Luke 1:46-49) And Mary said: My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For he has looked upon his handmaid s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. Happy, a thousand times happy is the soul here below to which the Holy Ghost reveals the secret of Mary in order that it may come to know her...that soul will find God alone in His most amiable creature. Mary is the admirable echo of God. When we say Mary, she answers _
God. When, with Saint Elizabeth we call her blessed, she glorifies God. The more a person joins himself to her, the more effectively she unites him to God. (Excerpt from the Secret of Mary #20, 21.) DAY 7 MARY, PATRONESS OF THE AMERICAS AND OF THE UNITED STATES - FRIDAY, OCT 11 th Mother Mary, Empress of the Americas, lead your chosen sons to entrust all the Americas and our homeland, the United States of America, to your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, making this A Mary Cause...from sea to shining sea. Reading (Cant. 6:9) Who is she that cometh forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in array? Mary, who is the Star of the Sea, leads all her faithful servants into a safe harbor. She shows them the paths of eternal life. She makes them avoid the dangerous places. If you follow her, says Saint Bernard, you cannot wander from the road. Fear not, therefore, that a true child of Mary cannot be deceived by the evil one or fall into any formal heresy. There, where the guidance of Mary is, neither the evil spirit with his illusions, nor the heretics with their subtleties, can ever come. (True Devotion to Mary #209) DAY 8 MARY, MOTHER OF PERPETUAL HELP - SATURDAY, OCT. 12 th Mother of all mothers, blessed among all women; bring all mothers and all women into greater intimacy with your Son through His spiritual brothers, in Persona Christi, our priests, through the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and true devotion to Him through His Mother Mary with the protection of St. Joseph, living the Gospels through the Most Holy Rosary. Reading (Luke 1:26-31) Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin s name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee...do not be afraid, Mary, for thou hast found grace with God. Behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb and shalt bring forth a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus. MOTHER MOST PURE ~ When Mary was on earth her presence alone inspired all who looked at her with a love of purity. (Saint Ambrose)
DAY 9 OUR LADY OF FATIMA AND THE MOTHER OF GOD - SUNDAY, OCT. 13 th May our Lady establish herself within each of her chosen sons with her desire for them to lead the world to her Son through her and bring the great devotion that is of such great importance to them: True Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary: To Jesus through Mary! Reading (Luke 1:32-33, 35) He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he shall be king over the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. the Holy Spirit shall come upon thee and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee; and therefore the Holy One to be born shall be called the Son of God....for nothing shall be impossible with God. But Mary said, Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; be it be done to me according to thy word. (Luke 1:38) CLOSING PRAYER FOR THE MARIAN NOVENA - MONDAY, OCT. 14th DAY 10 OUR LADY OF FATIMA - FATIMA: THE ALTAR OF THE WORLD! Dear Mother Mary, Lady of the Rosary, you called for Peace to be brought through out the world through the prayerful meditations of the Most Holy Rosary - the Story of your life with your husband Joseph and your Son, Jesus and the powerful ministry of the most holy of all families, your family dear Mother. May you, your husband Joseph and your beloved Son, Jesus, envelop your chosen sons and brothers, in Persona Christi, deep within your hearts; your Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart, Mary; your Sorrowful and Protective Heart, Joseph and Your Most Sacred and Divinely Merciful Heart, Jesus, with unending graces to strengthen them in leading all families to the center of all lives: Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament! Reading (John 14:23) If anyone love me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and will make our abode with him. When you hear Mass, do you come in the same frame of mind as the Blessed Virgin at Calvary? Because it is the same God and the same Sacrifice. (Saint John Marie Vianney + 1859)
