Oracle E-Business Suite Release Notes Release 12 for Apple Macintosh OS X version 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7 (Doc ID 864552.1) Skip to content Modified: 10-Apr-2013 Type: BULLETIN Status: PUBLISHED Priority: 3 Oracle E-Business Suite Release Notes Release 12 (12.0, 12.1) for Apple Macintosh OS X versions 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7 February 2012 See Change Record Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 is certified for Apple Macintosh OS X (Mac OS X) v10.5 (Leopard) with the Safari 3, 4 and 5 browsers using the Java 5 plugin, Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard) with Safari 4 and 5 using the Java 6 plugin and Mac OS X v10.7 (Lion) with Safari 5 and the Java 6 plugin. These notes contain important information that you should read and understand before you begin to use the Mac OS X v10.5, v10.6 or v10.7 client desktop with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12. These notes contain the following topics: Requirements Required Patches Known Restrictions and Issues Appendix Change Record Document Accessibility REQUIREMENTS To achieve optimal performance, you must have adequate CPU power and memory on the Mac OS X client. Oracle recommends the following configuration settings. Hardware Requirements The Mac OS X client must have 800 x 600 minimum display resolution (1024 x 768 is preferred). For a complete description of Mac OS X requirements (including processor, RAM, and disk requirements), review Apple's informational web page at: http://support.apple.com/kb/ta24950 (10.5) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4949 (10.6 and 10.7) Software Requirements The following desktop software is required: Mac OS X v10.5: Mac OS X 10.5 ("Leopard" version 10.5.6 or higher, along with any other security and Java updates in the Software Update program started from the Apple icon menu on the client) Safari 3 (version 3.2.1 or higher) or Safari 4 (4.0.4 or higher) or Safari 5 (5.0.2 or higher) The J2SE 5 plug-in on Mac OS X (v1.5.0_13 or higher) Mac OS X v10.6: Mac OS X 10.6 ("Snow Leopard" version 10.6.3 or higher, along with any other security and Java updates in the Software Update program started from the Apple icon menu on the client) Safari 4 (version 4.0.5 or higher) or Safari 5 (5.0.2 or higher, 5.1.2 or higher) The J2SE 6 plug-in on Mac OS X (v1.6.0_20 or higher) Mac OS X v10.7:

Mac OS X 10.7 ("Lion" version 10.7.2 or higher, along with any other security and Java updates in the Software Update program started from the Apple icon menu on the client) Safari 5 (5.1.2 or higher) The J2SE 6 plug-in on Mac OS X (v1.6.0_29 or higher) - see the 'Known Restrictions and Issues' section below for instructions regarding downloading the Java Runtime on Lion Note: Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 is not certified with the Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera or Chrome browsers on Mac OS X. The Oracle E-Business Suite client on Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 uses the native Java plug-in that is included with the Mac desktop (J2SE 5 or Java SE 6). With Mac OS X 10.7, the Java plug-in is delivered via a specific user-initiated download the first time a Java applet is invoked from a browser (see the 'Known Restrictions and Issues' section below for more details).. Please also review the My Oracle Support Note 'Oracle E-Business Suite Desktop Client Hardware and Software Requirements' (Note: 1155883.1). Safari on ios (for use in mobile devices from Apple) is not currently officially certified with the E-Business Suite and information in this document is not relevant to Safari on ios. Mac OS X Settings Specific to Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 Use the following settings to improve client-side performance and usability. For Safari (under the Safari menu option): Under 'Preferences > Security > Web Content': Select: 'Enable plug-ins, Enable Java, Enable JavaScript' Do not select: 'Block Pop-Up Windows' Under 'Preferences > Advanced': select 'Press Tab' to highlight each item on a webpage For the Java Plug-in: For Mac OS X 10.5, on the 'General' tab in 'Finder > Applications > Utilities > Java > Java Preferences': ensure that the Java Version selected is 'J2SE 5.0'. For Mac OS X 10.6, only the 'Java SE 6' plugin is available and customers will have this selected by default. For Mac OS X 10.6, it might be also necessary (especially for those running on Intel Core 2 Duo machines) to select the 'In their own process' for the 'Run Applets' selection to avoid a Forms applet hang on starting up a Forms-based application. On the 'General' tab in 'Finder > Applications > Utilities > Java > Java Preferences': Click on 'Settings', then 'View Applets', and ensure that the 'Enable Caching' tick box is selected. For System Preferences (in the desktop's dock): In 'Displays > Resolutions': select '1024 x 768 or higher' (recommended), or '800 x 600' (minimum) In 'Displays > Colors': select 'Millions' In 'Dock: select 'Automatically hide and show the Dock' (for users with limited screen area) REQUIRED PATCHES For Release 12.0: 12.0.6 as the minimum baseline release required (with Oracle Application Server 10gR2 version 10.1.2.3 or higher and 10gR3 version 10.1.3.5 or higher) Oracle Applications Technology R12.ATG_PF.A.delta.6 (patch 7237006) or later Oracle Applications Framework Patch 7602616

Oracle HRMS RUP8 (Patch 9301208) for fix to bug 7659135 in irecruitment (.docx file fails to upload from the Offer Workbench) For Release 12.1: 12.1.1 as the minimum baseline release required (12.1.2 or higher recommended for Safari 4 and 5) 12.1.2 required for fix to bug 7659135 in irecruitment (.docx file fails to upload from the Offer Workbench) KNOWN RESTRICTIONS AND ISSUES Oracle has addressed a number of issues found during the certification and testing period of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 against the Mac OS X desktop. While some generally known restrictions do exist in certain applications, customers might uncover additional and unforeseen issues while using Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 on Mac OS X. Oracle will work with all responsible parties to resolve such issues in a reasonable and timely fashion as they arise - those specific to the use of Safari or Java on the desktop may need to be referred to Apple for resolution. This section describes the restrictions and issues and contains the following topics: General Restrictions and Issues Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 Restrictions and Issues Internationalization Issues General Restrictions and Issues The following are general restrictions and issues: Users must use caution when defining a function key resource because it will affect function key use in Oracle E-Business Suite. The Mac OS X desktop also includes a feature called Exposé, which redefines certain keys (F9, F10, F11) to perform particular desktop shortcuts by default. This will affect some shortcut function key use in Forms like Query Mode. Use of mnemonic shortcuts (with the Alt key as in Windows) is not supported on the Mac OS X user interface and therefore does not work with Oracle Forms-based applications. When bringing up a Java applet (such as Forms) for the first time in Safari on Mac OS X v10.7 (Lion), users will see a window with the text 'Missing Plugin'. Clicking on the arrow button beside this text will cause a dialog window to appear asking if the user would like to install a Java runtime. Users should proceed to click on the 'Install' button to invoke a software update which will install the Java 6 runtime. Users should close all Safari windows and restart the browser to then bring up a Java applet such as Forms. Alternatively, users can preinstall the Java plugin prior to opening up Safari by clicking on the Java Preferences application (under Applications -> Utilities in Finder) which will then install Java if not already done so using the 'Software Update' program. Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 Restrictions and Issues The following restrictions and issues apply to the use of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 on the Mac OS X client: The following Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 products are not certified for Mac OS X: Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 ADI and Web ADI. The use of the RETURN (ENTER) or SPACE key to invoke the action on a submit button (for example in the Applications Login page) may not work due to a bug in earlier Safari versions and users should click on the button to invoke the action. This has been fixed in Safari 5.1. Oracle E-Business Intelligence: importing an exported entity zip file may fail in Safari 3 due to the default behavior of automatic unzipping of downloaded files. To fix this: In the browser, go to Safari > Preferences Select the General tab, if it is not already the default tab Deselect the option for Open "safe" files after downloading Close the window

Oracle Learning Management: the chat window in the Instructor and Learner home pages does not work with the Safari browser. Oracle Advanced Planning: clicking the right mouse button in the Key Indicators window does not work. Oracle Scripting: before using Script Author for the first time on a Mac client, create the following file: /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/cctbuilder.properties To create this file, open the Terminal application (in the Finder > Go > Utilities folder) and enter the following command: sudo touch /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/cctbuilder.properties When prompted for a password, enter one for an account that has system administrator permissions. Rich Text Editor issues: Oracle Contracts: when accessibility is set to none, and you want to add variables to the clause text in Create Clause, Update Clause, or Make Non-Standard Clause, go to plain text mode by clicking the Change to Plain Text Mode link. Oracle Marketing: the advanced HTML editing features of the Rich Text Editor are not enabled due to browser limitations. Oracle Marketing, Oracle One-to-One Fulfillment, and Oracle Content Management product users can set the user-level profile option of Self Service Accessibility Feature to Standard Accessibility to enable editing of HTML source instead. Document generation (.rtf format) for Proposals in Oracle Proposals Administration (12.0 and 12.1) produces unexpected text with Microsoft Office 2004 on the Mac and is not currently supported for the Mac. XML Report output using the RTF format is missing certain header info (Report name, logo, date, page numbers) when viewed with the default TextEdit editor on Mac desktops. Users should use alternative formats (PDF, HTML, EXCEL) or use Microsoft Word Office to generate and view XML reports. Users should review product-specific documentation for their support of Microsoft Office versions - for example, Oracle Proposals does not currently support MS Word 2008 with 12.1.1. Also irecruitment has issues with indexing and previewing.docx files using Oracle Database 10gR2. The use of Discoverer Plus (10g or 11g) is not currently supported on Mac OS X 10.6 or 10.7 with Java 6 due to an issue during the initialization of the Discoverer Plus applet at start up. Internationalization Issues The Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 was previously only certified with the U.S. English version of the Mac OS X desktop, but now is certified with other languages as well. Please review the 'Platform Notes' section of the My Oracle Support Document 393320.1 ('Internationalization Update Notes for Release 12') for more information on supported OS versions and known issues.
