Bob and his business partner David were looking at their bills. Every year they tried to prepare a budget. It wasn t easy, but they tried to stay within their budget --- and tried to manage their money as well as they could. Bob couldn t believe it. He just opened the new insurance bill. Holy smokes! Are we paying this much for insurance? I thought it was about $800 less than this. What do they do --- sneak it up on you when you re not looking? I don t know, David sighed. It s not like we even use it. I don t remember the last time we even had a claim. Premiums, policies, collision, comprehensive it was all pretty confusing. They were both thinking the same thing, Oh well, we ll swallow it. There s nothing we can do about it now. ******* Part One: 7 Ways To Save Money On Your Auto Dealers Insurance First, let s look at the typical auto dealers policy. It s not just one kind of insurance. It s usually seven different kinds of insurance --- all rolled into one policy! Let s take a quick look at what they are:
1. Bodily injury liability insurance is in case you or someone driving one of your cars causes an accident and somebody else is hurt or even killed. 2. Property damage liability is in case you or someone driving one or your cars damages property that belongs to somebody else. It s usually someone else s car but not always. People have damaged all sorts of things --- and have been protected by their property damage liability. Garages, buildings, lamp posts, fences, carports. Just about anything you can hit with your car. 3. Collision insurance is for the damage to your car as a result of colliding with another car or other object. 4. Comprehensive insurance is in case your car is damaged or stolen in a way that doesn t involve a collision. Let s say a storm blows a tree on it. Or a hailstorm pounds your lot and damages many vehicles at one time. Those are the kinds of things covered by your comprehensive insurance. 5. Medical payments insurance pays medical expenses for you, members of your family, drivers and passengers in the event of an auto accident, regardless of who caused the accident. It even covers you if you re a pedestrian. 6. Uninsured motorists coverage pays for injuries if you re hit by a driver who doesn t have insurance. Even in states where insurance is mandatory, there are lots of drivers on the road who don t have insurance. 7. Underinsured motorists coverage pays when the driver that hits you does not have enough insurance to pay for all of your injuries or damages. So that s a quick overview of the seven kinds of insurance you ll usually find in an auto policy. (Please be aware, this information is offered for general information. It is not a legal definition of any policy, many of which vary slightly and it is not a substitute for reading and understanding your own policy!) Now Let s Look At Some Of The Tricks For How You Can Save Money On Your Dealers Insurance! Money Saving Tip #1) Raise your deductible. Your deductible is the amount you pay when you make a claim before your insurance kicks in. In other words, if you have a $1,000 claim and a $250 deductible, you pay the first $250 and your insurance company pays the next $750. The disadvantage of raising your deductible is that when you do make a claim, you ll pay more. The advantage of raising your deductible is that your premium will go down, sometimes by as much as 15% to 30% on your collision and comprehensive insurance.
Money Saving Tip #2) Add your fire insurance for your property to your garage dealers policy. When you combine different policies the insurance company is able to reduce their paperwork and overhead on that policy. For this they will give you a discount on each of the policies that are combined. This discount can be as much as 15%! Money Saving Tip #3).Be sure the company you are using does not charge for pickup and delivery over 50 miles. Many dealers are surprised and shocked to learn that their insurance policy has a clause which gives the company the right to charge them by the mile for any pickup and delivery of vehicles over 50 miles one way. This charge can add up to a lot of money fast and just because it wasn t picked up on your audit one year doesn t mean that next year s auditor won t go after this. There are a few companies that do not charge for this, if you are unsure about yours, ask me and I will be glad to help you find out. Money Saving Tip #4) Make certain that your comprehensive deductible does not apply on a per car basis. Imagine having a $250 deductible on your comprehensive coverage and a hail storm ravages your lot, damaging 10 cars. Some policies would apply $2500 worth of deductibles to this claim. Almost all policies will apply that deductible at least 5 times for a total of $1250 out of your pocket. Is that insurance or just a bad joke? We have a company that applies this deductible only one time so you can get your cars repaired and get on with your business. Call us. Money Saving Tip #5) Be sure any part time sales people are charged as part time only. Part of the cost of your policy is based on the number of people you have working for you. However, a part time person should not be charged the full time rate. Be sure that your policy charges part time workers only for the time that they work for you. Money Saving Tip #6) Add any personal vehicles to the dealers policy. Since your dealers policy covers any vehicles, it is cheaper for you to put your personal vehicles on the dealers policy than to insure them separately on a personal auto policy. This savings is even greater if you or your spouse have a ticket or past accident as the dealer policy will not make a charge for those events. It is important, however, that you carry dealers physical damage coverages if you want to have collision and comprehensive coverage on your personal vehicles. Money Saving Tip #7) Drop your Medical Payments Coverage if you have good Health Insurance already. Unless you want to pay for medical payments of others when an accident is not your fault, medical payments is a duplicate of your health insurance coverage. If you have a very high deductible on you health insurance, then you may want to use the Medical Payments coverage to pay your health insurance deductible, otherwise this is duplicate coverage for you and therefore it is not a good use of your insurance dollars. A better use would be to buy higher liability limits to protect your company and livelihood from financial disaster.
***** Let s Pray This Kind Of Thing Never Happens To You Bob pulled into the parking lot of dealership one morning. As usual he was the first one to arrive. First to arrive. Last one to leave. Bob would sometimes joke that the only difference between owning a business and having a job is the tyrant he works for now --- himself. But he didn t need to remind himself. He loved his business. It was, after all, the American Dream. And it was worth the sacrifices. As he walked toward the shop he picked up litter outside the door. Opening the front door was always a comfort. Like coming home. But wait, something was wrong. When he looked toward the lot he noticed that the main gate was swung open at a terrible angle. His heart sank. A quick scan of the lot told him this was going to be bad. Every car in sight had been damaged. Windows broken, doors keyed, tires slashed. His Mind Started to Race. Who Could Do This Sort Of Thing? Then he saw that his 98 Vette was gone! His heart started to beat with anger or was it fear? He didn t think it would do much good, but it was time to call the cops. As he sat there waiting for the police, his mind started to race. What else could they have done? What else could go wrong? Bob wandered back into the lot. Holy smokes! he moaned. Look at how much they damaged! This Couldn t Mean The End Of His Business. Or Could it?
What would he tell his customers today? How long would it take to get back to business? His main wholesaler had a backlog of a month! Would he have to wait a month before he was fully up and running? He started to think about his insurance agent. He never paid much attention to that policy. Always figured nothing would really go wrong. apply? Now he was scared. What was covered? What wasn t? What deductibles will How was he going to pay all these repair bills while business was down? Who could have done this? His mind started to think of the people he knew, the people in the neighborhood. He had always treated them fairly. Then he heard a knock on the door. Must be the cops.. ******* It took a few missed phone calls, but finally Bob caught up with his agent, Jim. He told him the whole story. The next day, Jim came down to the lot and walked through it with Bob. At the end of their tour Bob looked at Jim expectantly. Well?, he said. Bob could tell by the look on Jim s face there was something wrong. Jim s eyes darted around the room. Well, Bob, I m afraid we might have some problems. ******* Has That Kind Of Thing Ever Happened To You? How Many Times Will It Happen In The Future? Bob was crushed. How Will You Ever Know? You probably would feel pretty panicky, too. You see, your business is more than just a business.
In a lot of ways it s your life. It s what gives you security --- and freedom. It s your kids birthday, their braces, your family vacation. It s your house, your yard, your future. It s the diamond you want to give your wife for your 10 th anniversary. Or your 20 th. Or 30 th. Like I said, it s your security and your freedom. Some day it s your retirement. And then something goes and screws it up. But it doesn t have to be that way. You can have the dreams you cherish. You can count on the security you desire. You don t have to worry every day about something happening that s going to set you back. We both know it s not just vandalism. Heck, a lot goes wrong around a business just because that s the way it is. It is the nature of business. Think Of All The Things That Could Go Wrong If You re Not Prepared! Like and old man slips outside or inside your building. Who s responsible? Are you covered? Like a car slips off your Rollback and causes an accident with 3 other vehicles, maybe putting someone in the hospital. Are you covered? Like a customer test drives a vehicle and drives it into a building because the brakes failed. The business in the building will be out of business for 1 month. Who pays for their lost business? Who makes their payroll? Are you covered? Like a hailstorm blows through your lot and damages every single car and it will take 3 weeks to have them all repaired. Are you covered? What is your deductible? Do you know?
It doesn t seem fair. But I ve seen good people suffer needlessly because they didn t know the secrets of how to make the huge resources of the insurance industry work for them. Listen, I ve been working with auto dealers for a long time. I ve heard every horror story in the book. If they were my clients, more often than not, we took care of their problem. Quickly and easily. But sometimes they became my clients after they had a really serious claim and wished they had me before the claim. You Can Have The Peace Of Mind And Security That You Dream Of But listen, you won t have it if you pretend you don t own a business with risks. Face up to those risks and you re halfway there. And I want to help take you the other half of the way there. I m willing --- in fact, I m excited about revealing to you some of the really important inside secrets about the insurance industry. The ones that offer you maximum protection. The ones that put the vast resources of the insurance industry to work for you! You see, I ve worked inside the industry for a long time. I m a licensed member of the club. I ve figured out how it works. And I know things that would make a layperson s head spin. Just because I ve been around it so long. And I ve got good news. The resources of the insurance industry are vast Why Would I Give Away My Inside Secrets? That s a really fair question. And I want to answer it honestly and truthfully.
Because it s good for you and it s good for my business too. Period. You see, I m willing to give away a lot of my knowledge to business owners. Knowledge that s taken me years to accumulate, organize and perfect. And I have found time and time again that generosity and the willingness to provide really great service comes back to me. Tenfold. In fact, that s how I ve built my business. Right now, let s talk about three of the most important things you can do to protect your financial well being for yourself and your family: 1. Have an insurance specialist conduct a risk analysis on your business. You live in the real world. A business owner s life probably has more risk than you d dream of. And they re not all the same! Different business owners run different risks. You could be laying your business wide open for financial disaster unless you ve had someone help you analyze your risks. And put together a comprehensive insurance plan to protect you. Our office will do that for FREE. Bankruptcy? Cash flow nightmares? Losses instead of profits? I ve seen it way too often. And it didn t have to be that way! 2. Use an independent insurance agent. I ll be blunt about this. I know how this industry works. Like I said, there s a lot of money in the insurance industry, and you want to make sure it works for you. So you don t want an insurance company employee for your agent. You want someone who s going to work for you! Not someone whose paycheck is tied to one company. But someone who can shop the market, compare price and get the most comprehensive coverage for you maybe even use multiple companies for your total coverage if that is what is
best for you. You want a good price? And you want protection when disaster strikes? Use an independent agent. 3. Don t trust the financial protection of your business to an insurance agent who is not a specialist with automobile dealers. Listen, insurance is a huge industry. There s insurance for everything. Anything you can have, do, own, manage or whatever there s insurance for it. Nobody can specialize in all of it. In fact, a professional independent agent can only specialize in a few niches and really understand them. Insurance is a very technical business. Policies, coverages, endorsements, exclusions. It has a language all its own. And the insurance needs of each industry are highly specific. If someone specializes in insuring homes or autos or retail stores downtown, that doesn t mean they know anything about insuring automobile dealers! And just because your wife s cousin sells insurance, doesn t mean he s the guy to trust the financial health of your business to! And this is what you re not looking for: An agent or an agency that just tries to sell you their services on meaningless platitudes, like quality or excellence. They re just buzz words that don t mean anything anymore. An agency that tries to sell you on their services just because they ve been around since 1964 or some such nonsense. Yes you want a professional that has studied the business, but what do you care what they were doing in 1964. Believe me, insurance back then wasn t anything like it is today! An agent that doesn t know automobile dealers. I know I ve said it before, and I ll say it again. You wouldn t want a foot doctor to perform surgery on your heart would you? I don t think so. So don t trust your financial well being to any insurance agent. If they can t show you a list of 50 or more auto dealers that they insure, they probably do not have the expertise you need for them to handle your financial livelihood. We insure over 200 auto dealers
across the state. And they work with us because we understand their business and how to insure it. How would you like to know that you really are going to have a more secure future for yourself and your family? Don t you deserve it? I ll help you FREE! Yes, you read that right Plus, one more thing. I ll assist you in performing a risk audit on your business. At no charge. Why? Why would I spend my time revealing what s taken me years to learn at no charge? I ll tell you why. Because I ve built my business on my reputation. I find that the more I give away, the more comes back to me. I never hard sell insurance. I m in the service business. And the better service I give, the better it is for all of us. My clients stay with me a long time and they refer their friends. And, frankly, I get a lot of clients by being generous. I happen to think I serve auto dealers better than anyone else in the state of North Carolina. That s partly because I spend a lot of time with them. And spending time with auto dealers is good for my business. So I ve learned all about their businesses. How to protect them. And how to do it at the best price. So if you want to protect your business from a future crisis or catastrophe or just see if you can save money on your insurance, call me. The worst you ll do is spend a few minutes learning. That alone is good for business, isn t it?
