All other data sets are the responsibility of The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) or the individual health bodies and. figures were published by The Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) and relate to September 2013. The health body figures were provided as at 31st March 2014. Both have been listed as there is some variance. Source (2) are the number of physical assaults where the perpetrator did not know what they were doing, or did not know what they were doing was wrong due to medical illness, mental ill health, severe learning disability or treatment administered. These figures have been calculated by applying the percentage of total declared assaults identified as involving medical factors, to the validated total assault figure at. IMPORTANT - care should be taken when comparing assault figures as there are many factors which may influence a health body's published figures including: a) population served b) geographical setting (i.e. rural/urban), c) level of provision of mental health, learning disability and elderly care services, d) changes in service provision, e) health body amalgamations and splits f) embedding of reporting culture.
