We use recount writing to retell events and describe things that have happened. Images: ThinkStock

Lots of different types of text can recount events and describe things that have happened. Some of these include... Letter Diary Newspaper Article Biography Sports Report Trip Report Magazine Article Images: ThinkStock

Recount texts are usually organised like this. Introduction Set the scene by telling your audience... when and where the event(s) took place, who was involved and how they got there, what happened and why. Events Using lots of detail, tell your audience... about the sequence of events that took place, in the order that they happened. You could use paragraphs to separate each event. As well as describing the facts, you could mention the feelings of the people involved (and use quotes from them). Conclusion Tell your audience... what happened in the end. You could also add your own comment about the events. Images: ThinkStock

Recounts describe things that have happened in the past, so use the past tense when you are writing. I ran to the shops with my dad. I am running to the shops with my dad. David smiled when he saw his birthday cake. David will smile when he sees his birthday cake. Images: ThinkStock

Saturday 29th May 2014 Ashbury Twins Wedding Dance Becomes Viral Internet Hit! Seven-year old twins David and Tara Simmonds from Ashbury are Youtube stars after being seen in a video that shows them dancing at their aunt s wedding in May. The video has had over half a million views in two weeks, with people watching from all around the world. It all started in February when David asked his mum, Kelly, if he could give his aunt Emily a gift for her wedding. Kelly suggested a surprise dance at the wedding reception, held at Ashbury Manor. Kelly planned a dance for the twins, who spent three months rehearsing. The children had to work really hard. It took quite a while to remember all of the steps but we had lots of fun! said Tara. David and Tara dancing in the wedding video. Kelly said We had kept the dance a secret from everyone, so it was a huge surprise for the whole family. The pair s perfect performance was loved by family and friends at the wedding reception. The video of their dance has now gone viral! Auntie Emily loved the dance and she told us that it was the best wedding present, said Tara. On the day of the wedding, the two children couldn t wait to share their special gift. Mum The twins now plan to start dance lessons and hope to be dancers when they are older. Images: ThinkStock

Monday 1st June 2014 Waters winning goal pushes Edgewick into the final! Edgewick striker Sam Waters scored the most important goal of his career in Saturday s semi-final against Peterville United. Waters, who has only been playing for Edgewick Rovers for one season, scored a spectacular goal in the final minute and launched his team into the final of the Champions League. Peterville started the game with a strong performance, breaking down Edgewick s defences easily and scoring the opening goal. David Barton, Edgewick s manager, looked frustrated for the rest of the first half, as his team struggled to fight back. Returning after half time, Edgewick performed like a completely different team with impressive passing from strikers Kyle Maloney and Liam Jacobs. Maloney scored the equaliser from a penalty in the fiftysecond minute, after a handball by Peterville captain Sean Summers. At that point, I knew that we could turn things around and take ourselves into the final, said Barton. It was only in the final minute of the game, following a sensational pass from Jacobs, that Waters was able to score the winning goal. His team will now play Barrowhaven Rangers at the end of the month at the Edgewick Stadium. After the match, Waters said Although we struggled at the start, the support of our fans in this home game really helped to drive us forwards. The rest of the team can t wait to prove our skills again in the final and take the trophy! Images: ThinkStock
