Date: 22 & 23 Nov, 29 & 30 Nov, 6 & 7 Dec, 13 & 14 Dec and 20 & 21 Dec 2014 Story Theme: Christmas Scripture Text: See below Teaching Focus: To Teach the Christmas Story Duration: 5 Weeks Introduction The whole Christmas story will last for 5 weeks starting on the 22 nd of November and ends on the 21 st December. Please take note that there is no GKidz Service on the 27 & 28 December, the children will be seated with their parents in the adult services. Below is schedule: 22 & 23 Nov: Mary & Joseph were told about the birth of Jesus. 29 & 30 Nov: Shepherds were informed of the birth of Jesus. 06 & 07 Dec: Wise Man looking for Baby Jesus 13 & 14 Dec: Christmas Poem #1 20 & 21 Dec: Christmas Poem #2 27 & 28 Dec: No GKidz Service (Christmas Celebration Service @TOUCHCENTRE Auditorium) For the first 3 weekends, we will be teaching the children the events/stories that had happened before and after the birth of Jesus. On the last 2 weekends of this series, we will reinforce all the 3 stories that have been taught over the first 3 weekends through a Christmas Poem. Have fun as you teach the children the stories of Christmas and experience once again the gift of Jesus that God in His sovereignty has given to us. Bible Story Time (Please use this pictures for the first 3 weeks) Leaders, please take note that the 3 Christmas stories will be a build-up, meaning all the pictures that we will be using on Week 1, will be used the following weeks together with that week s placards. Please keep your weekly pictures for the following weeks usage. Note to TLs: If you have enough leaders and are able to do a role play, please do so. The children love variation in their learning. Introduction (Leaders to Children): Hi Kids, from this week onwards until Christmas Day we are going to tell you the stories of Christmas (pause and in an exciting voice) Yes! Christmas is coming. Who is excited about it? (Let the children respond) Right we will be collecting a lot of gifts soon. But Christmas is not about gifts only, but the main reason why we celebrate Christmas is because Jesus was born on this very special day many, many, many years ago. In fact, it s about 2000years ago. Let me tell you how it all started. Children are you ready? Great, here it goes. Bible Truth Time Teaching Objective: The children will understand that God spoke to Mary and Joseph about the arrival of their baby Jesus who is also God s only Son. Beside the shepherds looking for baby Jesus, wise men too were looking for Him, so that they can worship baby Jesus. Both the shepherds and wise men found baby Jesus and they were happy to be able to give baby Jesus His presents. Bible Story Time (To do only on 22 & 23 Nov, 29 & 30 Nov and 6 & 7 Dec) Picture 1 (22 & 23 Nov) Picture 2 (22 & 23 Nov) An angel appeared before Mary and told her that she was going to have a baby. Picture 3 (22 & 23 Nov) This baby was God s Son and she was to call him Jesus. Picture 4 (22 & 23 Nov) Mary told the angel that she was willing to be the mother of Jesus. Picture 5 (22 & 23 Nov) Picture 6 (22 & 23 Nov) In Bethlehem, baby Jesus was born. Picture 7 (22 & 23 Nov) Jesus was born in a manger. A manger is a place where the animals sleep. Picture 8 (29 & 30 Nov) Joseph and Mary loved baby Jesus. Picture 9 (29 & 30 Nov) That night some shepherds were looking after their sheep. Picture 10 (29 & 30 Nov) Suddenly an angel appeared before them and said: Do not be afraid. I bring you good news. Tonight in this town is born a child and you will find this child wrapped in a cloth and sleeping in a manger. Picture 11 (29 & 30 Nov) Then there were so many angels and they filled the whole sky and they were singing and praising God. Picture 12 (Dec 6 & 7) The shepherds hurried & went & looked for baby Jesus. At the same time there were a few wise men and they had wonderful gifts that they wanted to give to baby Jesus. Picture 13 (Dec 6 & 7) Picture 14 (Dec 6 & 7) Children can you see the bright yellow star this star will lead the wise men to baby Jesus. Yeah! The Wise Men found baby Jesus! Picture 15 (Dec 6 & 7) The shepherds and the wise men found baby Jesus wrapped in a cloth and sleeping in a manger. They presented their gifts to Him. Story Time (Christmas Poem): 13 & 14 Dec and 20 & 21 Dec Overall Objective: Through the Christmas Poem, we will be reinforcing the whole Christmas story which we had taught over the last 3 weeks. Instructions for leaders: To recite this Poem, you will need to put the picture of the characters ronto the Storyboard provided. The pictures will be placed in a transparent booklet. Please take note that all the picture of the characters in the poem that you will need had been labeled in alphabetical order, so as you recite just look at the alphabets that are on the top right side of the pictures. There are two pictures namely star and baby Jesus that are not labeled because they will be used in more than one Story board. IMPORTANT NOTE FOR LEADERS, please make sure and check that all the pictures that you used for the Christmas Poem are all put back into the plastic bags and are arranged in alphabetical order, so that the next service leaders can use them. Leaders, before you tell the above story, please teach the children to say this line with you: Christmas star so big and bright! a few times with you. Then tell them that you when you reach this line in your Poem, you want them to say along with you. Story Board 1 Gentle donkey, soft and brown Mary Joseph, sleepy town God made a new star, twinkling bright To shine on Bethlehem that night. Story Board 2 My inn is full, a kind man said. But you may use my barn instead. Baby Jesus, born that night, Was wrapped in cloths so soft and white. Story Board 3 Shepherds heard the angels song With news they d waited for so long. Your Savior s born, the angel said. He has a manger for his bed. Story Board 4 The shepherds hurried to the town. They found the baby, and knelt down. And then they left to spread the word Of all they d seen and all they d heard. Story Board 5 Wise men saw the bright new light And said, A king is born tonight. Camels took them from their land Across the desert s hot, dry sand. Story Board 6 The wise men brought three gifts with them. To give the Child of Bethlehem. Small Group Segment: Week 1 (22 & 23 Nov) Weekly Small Group Time & Craft: Jesus In The Manger Materials Needed: 1. Printed Thick White paper (A5 size paper) 2. Scissors 3. Strips of brown paper as straws 4. 2 pcs of sticker with wording: Jesus is born 5. Sticker of baby Jesus 6. Coloring pencils Sample of the finished manger Sample of the finished manger with baby Jesus Printed Thick White paper Stands for manger Sticker for Jesus is born Sticker for baby Jesus To fold on dote lines and then cut two slits To cut out these portions To paste inside the manger. To prepare before the class starts 1. The manger a. Cut out the pattern for the manger 1 per child b. After cutting the above pattern each child should have: 1 large (for manger) and two small pieces (for the stand of the manger) 2. To cut the crepe paper into small strips and then opened them up, so that it will look like hay. What to do: 1. Get the children to color the manger and the stands for the manger. They are free to use whatever colors they like. 2. Prepare in advance some cut out small strips of crepe paper (hay) and put them on the base of the manger. 3. Give 2 stickers with wording Jesus is born and get the children to paste on both the inside of the manager. You may want to use these two stickers to secure the hays from falling out by pasting the edges of these stickers onto the hays. 4. Then give out the picture sticker of baby Jesus (1 per child) and ask the children to paste this sticker onto the crepe paper (hay). 5. Remember to write the name of the children on the craft manger.
