Conclusions Behaviour genetic research has greatly advanced our understanding of autism since the 1960s Behaviour genetic evidence suggests both genes and environment play a role in causing autism spectrum disorders Recent twin studies show that there is not a clear etiological distinction between extreme autistic traits and milder autistic traits 34
