A Kid s Christmas Play This Nativity play was written in its entirety, by a small group of children ages kindergarten through 3 rd grade from London Heights Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. It is their very own rendition of what the birth of our Savior might have been like in the children s own words. They worked at a local Pizza restaurant for over two hours straight putting this together in between bites of pizza. Its beauty lies in its innocence and simplicity. Feel free to use or design scenery and/or costumes etc as desired. We have come up with a few ideas to help. The shepherds and Wise Men's lines can be divided up into several parts in the case where there are younger children, or where a larger number of parts is needed. Also, for children who are not wanting a speaking part, they can be stable animals, or they can be the ones to carry the signs that say "Two days later" etc. Cast Script Narrators (May be any number, just divide their lines accordingly): Joseph, Mary, The Three Wise Men, Three Shepherds, and at least one Angel. The part of the Angel may be divided into as many parts as is necessary to give everyone a chance to be a part. Long ago, in a town called Nazareth, there lived a young woman named Mary. And a young carpenter named Joseph,. One night, the angel came to Mary and said: Mary, don t be afraid. I bring you good news. You are going to have a very special baby. His name will be Jesus and He will be the Son of God. Mary, to audience: Who is this guy really! Mary: I am the Angel Gabriel But how can that be? I am not even married and what about Joseph? Whatever can I tell him? Don t worry, God will take care of EVERYTHING! Narrator#2: Narrator #3: Do you think Mary will say yes? What will happen if she says no? I bet she says no. I hope she says yes (puts hands together clasping them in front of himself and says loudly with big smile): PLEEEEEEEEEEESE! A Kid s Christmas Play Page 1

Mary, (thinks about it) well yes, no, yes no...maybe...well, yes...i ll do it. so long as God is by my side and as long as YOU tell HIM (points to Joseph) Applause for Mary as all exit stage except the narrators Child with sign that says ( 2 days later runs across the stage) 2 days later an angel comes to talk to Joseph while he is sleeping Joseph, wake up! Joseph, yawns, and rubs his eyes and jumps straight up: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Who are you and what are you doing in my bedroom? And how did you get in my house? Did I forget to lock the door again? I m gonna get in BIG trouble now. Don t be afraid..and don t be afraid to take Mary as your wife. I am the angel Gabriel. The baby Mary is carrying is the Son of God. Wow are you a real angel? I ve never seen a real angel before. So. How did you get past my door..and the alarm? You know..my dog..my BIG dog Sam? I didn t, I just walked through your wall. Well why did you do that? because I CAN! So Joseph, so will you be the foster father of Jesus? I need time to think! All, close their eyes and clasp hands together: PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE no way! Gabriel starts to leave No, Wait! I have changed my mind. I ll do it! Hey, why are you smiling? Because God already told me you would say yes! (Joseph exits stage) A Kid s Christmas Play Page 2

Now for a commercial break: I m not a real Caesar, I just play one on the stage...but if I were, I would say Everyone must go to their homes to pay their taxes (All on stage grumble) Girls, tossing their hair back, speaks in California accent: What EVER! So Joseph and Mary make the long journey to Bethlehem. They try to find a room. They knock on the first door: Sorry, we re full. (Slams the door) They try the second Inn: They knock on the door Innkeeper 2: Sorry: No room. (He slams the door) There were no other Inns or rooms in town...except one. Mary and Joseph knock on the door Mary, screams in pain and holds her tummy: Gee whiz Why did I have to sign up for this job? Will he say yes? Everyone, clasping hands together in front of themselves: Its time! I am going to have a baby! Pleeeeeeeeeeese! OK, but you re not going to like this. You can have the stable. Mary and Joseph go into the stable That very night, Jesus was born. Mary is happy and cries (loudly) happy tears as she holds Jesus. All sing Happy Birthday Shepherd 1: The shepherds were outside one night taking care of their sheep. Suddenly, out of nowhere there was a flash of light. One shepherd says: What in the world was that? The sun already? I haven t even gone to bed yet. In fact, I haven t even gotten my BREAK. Where s my blankie? (He yawns) A Kid s Christmas Play Page 3

Shepherd 2: The second shepherd says: Is it an angel? And the angel says: Behold, I bring you good news. Your king is born in Bethlehem The night sky is filled with angels and song as the shepherds go to see the Christ Child. All sing Away in a Manger (A child runs across the stage with sign saying 2 years later ) It is 2 years later. Three very wise men saw a special star. It was so bright it must have hurt their eyes. The 1 st Wise man says: Wise man 1: Is that what I think it is? Is that the star that the Bible says will light our way to the Christ child? Wise man 2: It sure looks like it. Wait, I have a Bible in my pocket. Maybe there is a map. (He looks through his pocket and throws out everything BUT a Bible.) Oh great, I must have left it at home. Wise man 3: Here, I have one. Don t leave home without it! (He pulls out one with all the pages missing.) Oh great! All the pages are missing! He did it again! The dog ate my Bible...that s the 3 rd one this week! Wise man 1: Yeah, sure...you said that about your homework last week. Wise man 2: And we are supposed to be WISE men! Wise man 3: Oh well let s make sure to take him some presents. I just happen to have some gold in my pocket. Wise man 2: I just happen to have some perfume Wise man 1: I just happen to have some Myrhh. All Wise Men: WHAT S MYRHH???? other wise men look REALLY scared as he pokes around in his pocket again, remembering what happened the LAST time he did that. Wise men sing We 3 Kings A Kid s Christmas Play Page 4

Mary: Jesus: Later that day the Three Wise men followed to star right to Jesus house. Mary answers the door. Jesus is sitting on the floor with his earthly father. Joseph! There are three wise men here to see Jesus, and they are bringing presents! Hallelujah! Mary &...our child just spoke his first big word get out the baby book!! Jesus: Um, I mean AAAAAAmen! (with hands in praying fashion) Hey, did you guys bring any candy? Mary and Joseph look at Jesus in amazement. Everybody, to audience: Well, that s our story. Thank you for coming. But before we go, we have a question for you, the audience The shepherds and many Wise men and women since that time have accepted the baby Jesus into their hearts as their Savior will you? PLEEEEEEEEEEESE? In honor of the baby Jesus, the children would like to honor him with a song about the peace that was born on Christmas God s peace. All sing Let there be Peace on Earth the end A Kid s Christmas Play Page 5
