Mass Texts for a ion of Masses to be used at Places of Pilgrimage associated with Mary MacKillop Mary MacKillop faithful religious woman Founder of an Australian Congregation of Religious Women From an early age Mary felt drawn to give herself entirely to God in religious life. Her dream became a reality on August 15, 1867 when she professed vows as a Sister of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart in Adelaide, South Australia. : COMMON OF HOLY MEN AND WOMEN: FOR RELIGIOUS (2) Entrance Antiphon Cf. Ps 23, 5-6 Or: Ps 104, 3-4 O God, who called Saint Mary MacKillop to seek your Kingdom in this world through the pursuit of perfect charity, grant us through her intercession to advance with joyful spirit along the way of love. Let the gifts of our service, placed on your altar to commemorate St Mary MacKillop, be acceptable to you, O Lord, we pray, and grant that, released from earthly attachments, we may be made rich in you alone. We pray, almighty God, that we who are fortified by the power of this Sacrament may learn from the example of St Mary MacKillop to seek you above all things and to bear in this world the likeness of the New Adam. 1

Mary MacKillop had a special concern for the poor Mary s love for Christ was so strong that she sought him out in the poor, sick and suffering. There are many examples in Mary s life where she put aside her own needs in order to serve the sick and lonely. COMMON OF HOLY MEN AND WOMEN: FOR THOSE WHO WORK FOR THE UNDERPRIVILEGED (THOSE WHO CARRIED OUT WORKS OF MERCY) Entrance Antiphon Cf. Mt 25, 34.36.40 Or: Ps 111, 9 O God, who have taught your Church to keep all the commandments of heaven by love of you and love of neighbour, grant that, practising the works of charity after the example of St Mary MacKillop, we may be worthy to be numbered among the blessed in your Kingdom. Receive, O Lord, the gifts of your people, and grant that, with the example of St Mary MacKillop before us, we who recall your Son's work of boundless charity may be made steadfast in love of you and of our neighbor. Communion Antiphon Cf. Jn 15, 13 Or: Cf. Jn 13, 35 Grant, we pray, O Lord, that we who are renewed by sacred mysteries may follow the example of St Mary MacKillop, who worshipped you with tireless devotion and, by her boundless charity, brought blessings to your people. 2

Mary MacKillop teacher and educator In the spirit of Jesus the teacher, Mary combined a love of children and a desire that education should be available to all. Mary sent the Sisters to remote areas to ensure that economic hardship and distance provided no barrier for formation in faith and knowledge. COMMON OF HOLY MEN AND WOMEN: FOR EDUCATORS O God, who raised up St Mary MacKillop in your Church to show others the way of salvation, grant us, with her example, so to follow Christ the teacher, that we may come into your presence with our brothers and sisters. May the offering of your consecrated people be acceptable to you in commemoration of St Mary MacKillop, we pray, O Lord, and grant that, by participation in this mystery, we may reflect the pattern of your charity. Communion Antiphon Mt 18, 3 Or: Jn 8.12 Let the holy meal give us strength, almighty God, so that, following the example of St Mary MacKillop, we may show in our hearts and in our deeds fraternal charity and the light of truth. 3

Mary MacKillop is a model for pilgrims seeking Christ Even though she lived a full and active life, Mary made sure that she spent time each day in prayer and meditation often late at night. With her focus on Christ she was able to live a holy and exemplorary life and inspires us to do the same. COMMON OF HOLY MEN AND WOMEN: FOR HOLY WOMEN (1) Entrance Antiphon Cf. Prov 31, 30.28 Or: Cf. Prov 31, 20.27 O God, who gladden us each year with the feast day of St Mary MacKillop, grant, we pray, that we who duly honor her may also follow her example of holy living. We bring you sacrificial gifts, O Lord, to commemorate St Mary MacKillop, humbly imploring that they will bestow on us both pardon and salvation. Communion Antiphon Cf. Mt 13, 45-46 On this feast day of St Mary MacKillop, almighty God, let the working of the divine Sacrament both enlighten and enkindle us, that we may always be fervent with holy desires and abound in good works. 4

Mary MacKillop lived by the Cross of Christ Mary of the Cross suffered hardship from others and regular illness in her own life. Rather than complain, Mary saw suffering as a blessing from God and an invitation to share in the cross of Christ. COMMON OF HOLY MEN AND WOMEN: FOR HOLY WOMEN (2) Entrance Antiphon Cf. Prov 14, 1-2 O God, the exaltation of the lowly, who willed that St Mary MacKillop should excel in the beauty of her charity and patience, grant at her merits and intercession that as we carry our cross each day, we may always be strong in love for you. Look, O Lord, with favor on the sacrificial offering of your people, which they devoutly celebrate in honor of St Mary MacKillop, and let them experience its power to save. Communion Antiphon Mt 12, 50 We are filled with your gifts, O Lord, which we have received on the feast day of St Mary MacKillop; grant us, we pray, to be purified by their power and sheltered by their aid. 5
