1 Peter 4:7-11 NASB 7 The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. 8 Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Be hospitable to one another without complaint.

10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

HOLY SERVICE 1 Peter 4:7-11 1. Preparation (7-9) 2. Performance (10-11a) 3. Purpose (11b)

Preparation (7-9) 7 The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. 8 Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Be hospitable to one another without complaint. Verse 7: Prepare your mind Verses 8 and 9: Prepare your heart

Prepare your Mind (7) 7 The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. The end of all things is near In the light of Christ s imminent return Be of sound judgment and sober spirit 1:13: Prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit For the purpose of prayer. Pray (for strength and guidance) before serving!

Prepare your Heart (8-9) 8 Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Be hospitable to one another without complaint. Keep fervent in your love for one another 1 Corinthians 13 There s no point without love. Because love covers a multitude of sins. Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love Be hospitable to one another without complaint. Especially to strangers Hebrews 13:2

Performance (10-11a) 10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies Verse 10: Unpack your gift Verse 11a: Utilize your gift

Unpack your Gift (10) 10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. As each one has received a special gift That means you! (see 1 Cor 12 and Eph 4) Employ it in serving one another Gifts are for the benefit of the church (Eph 4) As good stewards of the manifold grace of God. These gifts are little pieces of God s grace!

Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. Ephesians 4:15-16 NASB

Utilize your Gift (11a) 11 Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies Whoever speaks, as one speaking the utterances of God. Get those words right! Whoever serves, as one serving by the strength which God supplies. Work hard and don t give up! Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.

Purpose (11b) so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

A true mark of holiness is the believer s desire to glorify God in all aspects of one s life.
