APPENDIX 5 ABBREVIATIONS FOR LEGAL PERIODICALS Use this appendix to abbreviate the names of periodicals. The citation form for periodicals is addressed in Rule 23. Selected periodicals are listed in alphabetical order by the periodical s current name. Prior names are listed immediately below the current name. Use the abbreviation that corresponds to the volume you are citing; do not use the current abbreviation if citing older volumes. Many other periodicals are listed at www.alwd.org. To help you determine how to space each abbreviation, the symbol s has been used to designate a space. Do not include this symbol when you type the abbreviation. The symbol has been used to indicate whether a periodical is nonconsecutively paginated. Under item 3 in Rule 23.1(f ), when the issues of a particular periodical are not consecutively paginated, include the exact date contained on the first page or cover. For consecutively paginated periodicals, include only the year (item 2 in Rule 23.1(f )). Although this list contains many periodicals, the list is not exhaustive. If you cannot locate the name of the periodical you wish to cite in Appendix 5, to construct the abbreviation, you should look up each word in the title in Appendix 3; you may also abbreviate any word that appears in another title within Appendix 5. If you cannot find an abbreviation for the word in Appendix 3 or in Appendix 5, spell out that word. Remember to use Rule 2 to properly space your abbreviation.
