Chromosomal analysis for prenatal samples, peripheral blood, bone marrow biopsy samples, various types of lymphomas, and solid tumors FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization) assays and many probes that are available only at Dow Diagnostics Microarray assays for congenital (pre- and postnatal) disorders Our innovations have also led to increased proficiency in the processing of specimens. At Dow Diagnostics in Dubai, our hematopathologists, anatomic pathologists and hematologists/oncologists have collaborated to develop the most cost effective and data driven testing algorithms to optimize test utilization and individualize patient care. The Cytogenetics Laboratory at Dow Diagnostics, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai, UAE is a state of the art full service reference laboratory meeting US standards. Our American Board Certified laboratory director and genetics experts work hand-in-hand with laboratory staff. This ensures accurate and reliable results are available in a timely manner.

Our vision is to be the primary preference in diagnostic laboratories for both physicians and patients. Our mission is to provide world class quality in diagnostic testing at affordable prices. We utilize state of the art technology along with an uncompromising quality management system. Under the supervision of Dr. Kashif Hussain Ansari (CEO and Founder of Dow Healthcare Management Inc.), our team of highly skilled, trained, and dedicated professional pathologists and technicians are the hallmark of quality and integrity. Through our diagnostic testing and informational services, healthcare professionals gain insight enabling them to make decisions to improve patient care. We provide diagnostic services specializing in Hematology, Cytogenetics, Flow Cytometry, Immunohistochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Fluorescence in situ Hybridization (FISH).

Chromosomal aberrations outline a major category of genetic diseases. In a clinical setting, chromosomal abnormalities account for a large proportion of patients with congenital malformations, intellectual disability, and infertility or recurrent pregnancy loss. For patients with hematologic/oncologic malignancies, cytogenetic testing plays a vital role in the diagnosis, prognosis, selection, monitoring, and treatment of leukemia, lymphoma, and other inherited disorders. Therapies are developed as tumor markers are identified and targeted by the results of performed tests in the Cytogenetics Laboratory. These results are a valuable addition to clinical and pathological information. Flow Cytometry is the state of the art, user-friendly, reliable, and accurate technique for the rapid analysis of multiple characteristics of a single cell. This technique also provides both qualitative and quantitative information on a larger number of cells. There is a continuous increase in various clinical applications of Flow Cytometry including:

Hematological malignancies PNH (Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria) Platelet function defects MRD (Minimal Residual Diseases) Immunodeficiency Syndrome Stem Cell Enumeration DNA Content Analysis ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura) Immunologic monitoring of HIV/AIDS Numerous research The Immunology, Flow Cytometry, and Molecular Diagnostics Laboratories form a single administrative unit within the Department of Laboratory Medicine in order to optimize cross-disciplinary diagnostic activities. Immunohistochemistry, or IHC, is a special staining process performed on fresh or frozen breast cancer tissue removed during biopsy. IHC is used to show whether or not the cancer cells have HER2 receptors and/or hormone receptors on their surface. This information plays a critical role in planning the appropriate treatments for our patients.

IHC is the most commonly used tests to determine if a tumor has too much of the HER2 receptor protein on the surface of the cancer cells. This testing technique uses monoclonal antibodies to stain tumor cells and speed up a series of chemical reactions which indicate the probability of cancer. Dow Diagnostics is an advanced facility offering sophisticated tests such as, chromosomal analysis and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), for the first time in the UAE. These tests are performed by our expert Westernqualified staff, employing state of the art technology. Chromosomal analysis is performed on peripheral blood samples from infertility cases, recurrent abortions, and children with congenital disorders such as Down s Syndrome and Turner Syndrome. Bone marrow cytogenetic testing is available for hematological disorders such as: Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, Acute Leukemia for conditions such as Fanconi Anemia, and for a multitude of various cancers. FISH offers rapid identification of many genomic aberrations which have an important role in diagnosis as well as in monitoring the disease response of BCR-ABL translocation in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and PML-RARA in Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. FISH testing facilities are also available for prognostic markers like t(4;14) and deletion of 17p (del p53) in cases of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and Multiple Myeloma patients. For conventional cytogenetic analysis (infertility and recurrent abortion cases), peripheral blood samples in lithium heparin vacutainers are required. Cytogenetic analysis in cases of Acute Leukemia/Lymphoma, Myeloproliferative Neoplasm (MPN), Myelodysplasia (MDS), and other blood disorders require mainly bone marrow aspirate specimens and occasionally peripheral blood samples in lithium heparin vacutainers. Solid tumors, including lymph nodes (the preferred sample type in suspected lymphoma cases) are also part of our diagnostic workload. When appropriate, there is support from our molecular cytogenetic sections to carry out relevant FISH testing.

Dow Diagnostics for the first time in Dubai Healthcare City offers: - Cytogenetics, FISH, Chromosomal analysis, Morphology, Microarray, Immunohistochemistry, Flow Cytometry, and Clinical Cytology - Special packages for hospitals and multispecialty clinics.
