ELEMENTARY GRADE BOOK SETUP AND MARKS ENTRY FOR GRADES -5 1. Log into Synergy using your email username and password. 1 FOR DUAL LANGUAGE TEACHERS ONLY - Before creating assignments or entering grades, the Dual Language teacher will need to assign the Dual Language report card to students participating in the program. 2. From the TeacherVue window, hover your cursor over the Report Card link located at the top of the screen; select the Student Report Card from the drop down window. 2 2 2
. Click on the Grade Book link and select Grade Book Setup. Click on the Grade Book Settings tab and in the Final Grade Rounding Settings section, select the Rounding Off from the Class Percentage drop down window. In the Grading Period Default for New Assignments section, select Assignment Date. This will place the assignment in the correct reporting period, this becomes important when switching between semesters. 4. Click on the Grade Book link and select New Assignment from the drop down window. 4 5. When creating a new assignment, the following information is required, otherwise, the assignment cannot be saved: Assignment Name When creating a name, think about how the name will define what the target skill is (i.e. Unit 1- Literary Elements; Unit 1- Sequencing, etc.). Description Provide detailed information about the assignment. Type Select homework, assignments, projects, etc. Subject Select Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, etc. Grading Select Overall Grade Score Type Select Raw score or Percentage Max Score Raw Score (total # of items) or Percentage (no max score needed) Points All assignments should be one (1) point
In the Assignment Settings Section: Assignment Date Defaults to current date, but can be changed. Assignment Category Select Normal Show in Parent/Student Portal Select box 5 6. Click on the Report Card Correlations tab to correlate the assignment to a standard. NOTE: Always correlate an assignment to a standard. Assignments can be correlated to multiple standards, if they apply. For example, if entering a grade for Reading Standards for Literature and the assignment also covers Writing Objectives, you can correlate the assignment to both areas. After correlating the assignment to the report cards standard, click the Save Assignment button. 6 6 NOTE: For the Life Skills and Work Habits. It s highly recommend, teachers create an assignment or multiple assignments for each life skill and work habit and enter a grade for each student. For example, Self Directed Learner, create an assignment titled Self Directed Learner and give all of your students an E, S, N, or U grade. Doing this will save you having to enter each area manually.
7. Grade book will return to the Grade Book Main screen. Click on the chevron > icon to display the Grade Book Options. Nothing should be selected, except the Show option should be set to normal. NOTE: Under the Summary Mode, the Show Median refers to Middle value and Show Mode refers to the score that occurs most frequently. Pick one, both or neither. 7 7 8. Click on the assignment name and select the Enter Scores from the drop down menu. Grade book switches to edit mode to enter grades. Teachers have the following options when entering grades: Exclude exclude a score from final calculation. Hide in Portal does not display the score in ParentVue. Fill Down click the green arrow once, to give all students the same score, if necessary adjust individual scores or click the green arrow twice to overwrite scores. Comment Select any applicable comment code for the assignment. Notes Enter any applicable notes about the assignment. Public Notes are displayed in ParentVue. Private Notes are only available to school personnel. Click Save or Save and Return to Grade book. 8 8
9. At the end of each reporting period (December and May), teachers will need to transfer marks to the report card, click on the Report Card Preview - Standards link. Teachers have two options, either by individual student ( Transfer Marks for Student Name ) or all students ( Transfer All Student Marks ). NOTE: In either option, teachers will only need to click ONE BUTTON to transfer all marks to the report card, instead of manually entering grades for each student. Grades will be calculated by the Power Law method. Power Law looks at trend analysis and weighs heavier on the latest assignments. 9 9 10. To view students with missing marks, select the Missing Marks option from the Report Card link. Drag and drop a column header to group/filter by that column (i.e. if Report Card Area is selected, Synergy will filter by subject area. 10 10
11. To override a system calculated grade, select Report Card Matrix from the Report Card link. Click on the drop down arrow and select the new grade, then click on the Save Scores button. 11 11. To view report cards, enter comments or change the report card language, select Students from the Report Card drop down window. Click on the View Report Cards or View link to preview the report cards. In the Language column, click on the drop down arrow to change language to English or Spanish.
1. To enter comments, click on the student s name and the comment s screen will appear. Teachers can select from the District s comments or enter their own. Click on Generate Class Report Cards to generate a PDF file. NOTE: Teachers will need to manually enter the Days Attended on the report card. They can print report ATD 401 from Grade Book Reports. Teachers will also need to print report cards and forward a copy of PDF file to their school administrator. 1 1 1
