It is sandwiched between two houses. During the war, the German soldiers would check each home to make try to find Jewish people living or hidden in the homes. If Jewish people who are hiding made any little noise, the dogs that were part of the search team would bark to let soldiers know there may be folks hiding in the vicinity of the barking dogs. Anne would on occasion peek outside of the attic window while her Dad took pictures. She was very careful to. do that while no German soldiers were outside. Inside of the house Here is a photo of the house interior where Anne hid with her parent and sister Margot for almost 2 years. Anne wrote from her diary in the attic from July 1942 to August 1, 1944. They could not come out of their hiding place much. They had 4 friends who helped to deliver foods for the family and friends of the home. Every night, they kept quiet and had the radio off.
