QlikView for Life Sciences Partnering for innovation and sustainable growth qlik.com

A business model built for insight Success in today s life sciences industry requires insight into volumes of data, the sharing of information, and the effective management of increasingly complex partnerships that depend on close collaboration. Do you have what it takes? QlikView can help. More than almost any other industry, life sciences is committed to innovation. To ensure sustainable growth over the years, companies like yours have constantly responded to changing market conditions not only with new compounds and therapies but also with new ways of developing them, getting them approved, bringing them to market, and promoting them to patients and physicians. Take for example, R&D. It wasn t all that long ago that pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical firms managed all of their R&D activities in-house. To drive down costs, speed development, and achieve economies of scale do more with less - the industry has moved to a more flexible business model that emphasizes partnership and collaboration. Many life sciences companies now take three paths to commercialization. For some projects, firms stick with the in-house approach to R&D. For others, they partner with collaborating organizations that bring specialized expertise to the table whether it s technical knowledge regarding specific compounds or process knowledge that enables them to do more things more efficiently. Still for other projects, firms use an entirely virtual model where internal project managers work with outsourced research organizations to develop new compounds. This mixed in-house/hybrid/outsourced model is not limited to R&D. With streamlined development processes, firms often have several compounds passing through clinical trials simultaneously. To keep pace, while still ensuring safety and meeting compliance standards, firms will often form partnerships with or outsource to clinical research organizations (CROs) that add specialized skills to the mix. Partnering and outsourcing some of these activities help alleviate the financial burden on pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical companies to build or acquire clinical trial expertise required to manage and conduct the trial and to guide compounds through the approval process. Plus, it enables multiple pathways to success and increases bandwidth for all of the trials now required to gain favorable labeling. The same in-house, hybrid, and outsourced coexisting paths also hold true for supply chain management, manufacturing, distribution, sales and marketing, and almost every other link in the end-to-end value chain for the life sciences industry. The simple fact is that over the last 10 to 15 years, pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies have dramatically increased collaboration with partnering organizations. The result is increased complexity as different partners come in and out of various aspects of a given project, and new pathways to commercialization and to market are in process. 2 QlikView for Life Sciences

In this context, one of the most critical keys to success is the ability to effectively share, manage, and analyze the vast amount of data that is created and used across the value chain, in these multiple pathways. As the complexity of partnerships continues to increase, the ability to gain insight into these data is what sets companies apart and drives competitive advantage. Traditional business intelligence, unfortunately, is not up to the task. Reporting cycles take too long to yield insights, and users don t have the immediate access they need to get answers when they need them. What s needed is real-time insight that empowers your people from scientists to sales people to senior executives and everybody in between to improve decision making in a way that continues to drive innovation and growth. This is where QlikView has proven to be an invaluable asset to life science firms all over the world. QlikView has connected our organization from the grassroots right up to the top of the tree with true Business Discovery and accurate intelligence for the entire business and in real time. In turn, this allows Genzyme to deliver against our core objectives of being efficient, effective and exceptional. We grasped the flexibility and simplicity of QlikView in next to no time and quickly saw how the solution could be used across the entire organization. James Sharp, Regional IT Manager, Genzyme Therapeutics Ltd QlikView for Life Sciences 3

Creating a culture of innovation QlikView is the leading Business Discovery TM platform for the life sciences industry. With a deep and thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing organizations like yours, QlikView is providing a new way for business users to view, interact with, and interpret mounds of data from disparate sources. QlikView is designed to meet today s challenges head-on, by offering solutions across three core areas: Sale and marketing effectiveness Sales and marketing in the life sciences industry has changed and firms everywhere are struggling keep pace. To answer physician questions and provide the best service possible, sales people need access to real-time data that enables them to make science-base arguments in favor of your therapies whether they re on the road or at the home headquarters. Marketing, meanwhile, needs to segment the market, track campaign performance, and constantly educate key opinion leaders (KOLs) about how your therapies help their patients. QlikView gives your people the real-time data and immediate access they need to get this job done right. Clinical and operational excellence To compete effectively, you need to run all aspects of your business at peak efficiency despite increasing complexity. To streamline R&D, you need better data management across collaborating partners. For better clinical trials, you need to collaborate better with partnering CROs, track patients more effectively, identify gaps in patient treatments, report results, and even track post-market issues for better pharmacovigilance. And when it comes to supply chain management, manufacturing, and distribution you need to constantly measure vendor performance, analyze procurement, track lots, and identify issues with downtime. In the end, QlikView can help you manage all of these activities with greater speed and accuracy than ever before. Profit and productivity maximization Like any other business, companies in the life sciences industry are under tremendous pressure to maintain profitability and increase productivity wherever possible. This requires insight into spending throughout the organization and ability to get information to lines of business to make informed decisions quickly. This is why QlikView empowers your people in executive management, finance, HR, and operations with real-time information and insight to drive success. From ata-glance scorecards to track performance for major drug therapies to contract management to maximize profitability (just to name two examples), QlikView helps you drive success across all aspects of your business. 4 QlikView for Life Sciences

Providing the competitive advantage QlikView is the world s first Business Discovery platform, designed to assist organizations in achieving more innovation, stability, and growth. Business Discovery platform Business users want to analyze information looking for associations and deriving insights through visually appealing interfaces. QlikView incorporates best of breed visualization capabilities including a broad range of charting and display options. The simple and easy to use QlikView interface makes it broadly appealing. A simple click can transform the analysis and open up new analytical paths and ways to visualize data. Based on your security, you can interact with QlikView Apps and make modifications, additions and/or create new apps without requiring complex training or ramp-up time. If you need a specific visualization component that is not included in core QlikView, your web developers can easily and seamlessly integrate custom and third-party components. What is Business Discovery TM? Business Discovery is userdriven BI that helps people make decisions based on multiple sources of insight: data, people, and place. You can create and share knowledge and analysis in teams, groups and across organizations. Business Discovery platforms help you ask and answer streams of questions and follow your own path to insight on your own and in formal or informal groups. Enabling insight everywhere, the QlikView Business Discovery platform includes an app model and supports mobility, remixability and reassembly, and a social and collaborative experience. Associative experience One of QlikView s primary differentiators is the associative experience. Using any device, you conduct searches and interact with dynamic dashboards and analytics. As you explore, you see unique relationships in the data. This helps you uncover insights according to your own train of thought insights that you might not have noticed with traditional BI tools. This associative experience leverages QlikView s in-memory approach to deliver the familiar experience of a search engine to find critical information and get fast business answers. Similar to Google s new Instant Search, QlikView s Associative Search provides instant results as you type. Its intuitive interface highlights important relationships between your data. This enables ordinary business users to explore data and gain better insights about customers. The inference engine maintains the associations in the data automatically alleviating the need for developers to do so through rigid hierarchies and hard coded drill paths. QlikView for Life Sciences 5

Collaboration Business decisions are seldom made in isolation, they are collaborative. They are based on social exchanges driven by real-time debate, dialog, and shared insights. QlikView s approach places collaboration at the very heart of Business Discovery TM, allowing users to share and collaborate on relevant data across individuals, workgroups, and departments. It lets them collectively discover within in-context workspaces, capture notes and conversations, securely share information, and review decision results. QlikView provides users with the freedom to securely and privately collaborate as they choose. Mobility Physicians and the medical profession in general are moving toward mobile computing and life sciences companies are following suit. This is why QlikView for Mobile gives you the full power of Business Discovery on any mobile device you choose to use. While on the road, sales reps can use QlikView to plan their calls and answer physician questions in an instant. While in the lab, your researchers can access critical data to keep moving toward development. And no matter they are, your executives can monitor and analyze performance to keep the firm on track. The result is faster decision making for all of your mobile business users who are empowered with insight on the go so that they can understand what s happening with their business as it happens, instantly and securely. Enterprise ready The QlikView Business Discovery platform is highly scalable, supporting large volumes of users and data. It can scale at the rate the business requires, with a rapid implementation process. Once QlikView has solved a significant business problem that traditional BI could not address, other departments soon take notice. It does not take long before the solution evolves into a server-based enterprise Business Discovery platform delivering insights and opportunities previously unseen. IT professionals are no longer tasked with creating data models, building large semantic layers, creating queries or building reports. Instead IT is responsible for retaining control over the data, helping to validate and deliver relevant analytics while enforcing security. The pharmaceutical industry can change instantly, impacting how, where and what products we bring to market. It is imperative that people have real-time access to our business systems. With QlikView, we are able to access information anyplace and anytime. That puts us in a position of trust with our customers and partners. Chris Ground, Senior Vice President, National Accounts FFF Enterprises 6 QlikView for Life Sciences
