Holy Hour based on the Four Ends of Sacrifice: The Four ends of Sacrifice are Adoration, Thanksgiving, Reparation and Petition. The Blessed Sacrament is exposed in the Monstrance after Mass. The Sacrifice of the Mass has not therefore ended, but continues in contemplation, hence the appropriateness of praying according to the four ends of Sacrifice while in the Presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed. As to the Psalm used in each section, the texts are those used in the Breviary, but any appropriate Psalms or texts could be used by the presenter of the Holy Hour. ADORATION Presenter You are in the Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Just ponder on this for a moment. Who is Jesus? The Son of God, Who lived on earth for you, Who taught you in His Word and in His life to love God and all His people, Who suffered betrayal and humiliation Who accepted His Father s will Who suffered and dies for you Who with the Holy Spirit is One with God The God Who made you. Who are you? His creation. His beloved child. Loved with the ultimate love. He died for you, and rose again to conquer even death. And you are in His Presence! The Presence of the same Jesus Who was born at Bethlehem And died on Calvary. You are in the stable, you are at the foot of the cross. He is present to you in love. So much love that He could not bear to be parted from you even to be with His Father. So He gives you His Body. How do you feel about Him? Tell Him. He loves to hear! 50 th International Eucharistic Congress 1

Psalm 62 O God, You are my God, for You I long For You my soul is thirsting My body pines for you Like a dry weary land without water So I gaze on You in the sanctuary To see Your strength and Your glory. For Your Love is better than life My lips will speak Your praise So I will bless you all my life In Your name I will lift up my hands My soul is filled as with a banquet My mouth shall praise You with joy! On my bed I remember You On You I muse through the night For You have been my help In the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice My soul clings to You Your right hand holds me fast. Thanksgiving Presenter All you have, He has given to you: Life Health Love Forgiveness Himself He is constantly present to you, day and night, in joy and in sorrow. He comes to you in the Eucharist. He strengthens and sustains you. He is in the note-worthy events of your life. He is in the seemingly insignificant things the gentle breeze (1Kings 19:9-14). Thank Him with all your heart for your blessings (mention some) Thank Him for sustaining you through the difficult times (mention some) Thank Him for being there at all times even when you did not notice Him. Thank Him for His Presence in the Eucharist. Thank Him for taking the time to live among us. Thank Him for showing us the way to the Father. 50 th International Eucharistic Congress 2

Thank Him on behalf of those who never give His Love a thought. Tell Him you will keep His goodness more actively in mind from now on. Tell Him again. He loves to hear. Psalm 115 How can I repay the Lord For His goodness to me? The cup of Salvation I will raise I will call on the Lord s name. My vows to the Lord I will fulfil Before all His people O precious in the eyes of the Lord Is the death of His faithful. Your servant Lord, Your servant am I You have loosened my bonds A thanksgiving sacrifice I will make I will call on the Lord s name. My vows to the Lord I will fulfil Before all His people In the courts of the House of the Lord In your midst, O Jerusalem. Reparation Jesus loves you so much, and yet, you offend Him by thoughts, words, deeds, omissions. He understands this. He told us that a just man falls seven times a day! He knows your weaknesses. He understands. Before you were born, He knew you. He struggles for you. When you are weak, then you are strong, Because He struggles for you. In what way have you offended Him? How can you improve on that? How can you avoid it in the future? Open your heart to Him. He will comfort you and strengthen your resolve. He will make His home in you. Make His home comfortable. 50 th International Eucharistic Congress 3

Throw away the things He would not like. Welcome Him in. Tell Him you re sorry for having hurt Him. Tell Him you re sorry that others have hurt Him. Tell Him again. He loves to hear. Psalm 138 O Lord, You search me and You know me You know my resting and my rising You discern my purpose from afar You mark when I walk or lie down, All my ways lie open to You. Before ever a word is on my tongue You know it O Lord, through and through. Behind and before You besiege me Your hand ever laid upon me. For it was You Who created my being Knit me together in my mother s womb. I thank You for the wonder of my being For the wonders of all Your creation. Already You knew my soul My body held no secrets from You when I was being fashioned in secret and moulded in the depths of the earth. O search me and know my heart O test me and know my thoughts See that I follow not the wrong path And lead me in the path of life eternal. Petition You are in His Presence. He is in your presence. You have welcomed Him into Your heart. You have embraced His love. A love that gave Itself for you. He wants the best for you. More than any father would want for a child. Bring Him your needs. Ask Him : to increase your love for Him 50 th International Eucharistic Congress 4

To increase your love for others To keep you aware of His presence in your life. Ask Him for all those little things that would ease the pain in your life. Remember that He will give you what He knows is best. Ask Him to help you to accept His judgment and to trust Him. Tell Him of all your needs. Tell Him of all the needs of your loved ones. Tell Him of all the needs of His people. Tell Him you need Him. He loves to hear. Psalm 125 When the Lord delivered Sion from bondage It seemed like a dream Then were our hearts filled with laughter On our lips there were songs. The heathens themselves said: What marvels The lord works for them What marvels the Lord worked for us Indeed we were glad. Deliver us O Lord from our bondage as streams in dry land. Those who are sowing in tears Will sing when they reap. They go out, they go out full of tears Carrying seed for the sowing. They come back, they come back full of song, Carrying their sheaves. Contemplation You are still in His Presence. You are His beloved. Rest on His heart. Feel Him near. Listen to Him. You will love what you hear! 50 th International Eucharistic Congress 5
