Holy Hour based on the Four Ends of Sacrifice: The Four ends of Sacrifice are Adoration, Thanksgiving, Reparation and Petition. The Blessed Sacrament is exposed in the Monstrance after Mass. The Sacrifice of the Mass has not therefore ended, but continues in contemplation, hence the appropriateness of praying according to the four ends of Sacrifice while in the Presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed. As to the Psalm used in each section, the texts are those used in the Breviary, but any appropriate Psalms or texts could be used by the presenter of the Holy Hour. ADORATION Presenter You are in the Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Just ponder on this for a moment. Who is Jesus? The Son of God, Who lived on earth for you, Who taught you in His Word and in His life to love God and all His people, Who suffered betrayal and humiliation Who accepted His Father s will Who suffered and dies for you Who with the Holy Spirit is One with God The God Who made you. Who are you? His creation. His beloved child. Loved with the ultimate love. He died for you, and rose again to conquer even death. And you are in His Presence! The Presence of the same Jesus Who was born at Bethlehem And died on Calvary. You are in the stable, you are at the foot of the cross. He is present to you in love. So much love that He could not bear to be parted from you even to be with His Father. So He gives you His Body. How do you feel about Him? Tell Him. He loves to hear! 50 th International Eucharistic Congress 1
Psalm 62 O God, You are my God, for You I long For You my soul is thirsting My body pines for you Like a dry weary land without water So I gaze on You in the sanctuary To see Your strength and Your glory. For Your Love is better than life My lips will speak Your praise So I will bless you all my life In Your name I will lift up my hands My soul is filled as with a banquet My mouth shall praise You with joy! On my bed I remember You On You I muse through the night For You have been my help In the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice My soul clings to You Your right hand holds me fast. He understands. Before you were born, He knew you. He struggles for you. When you are weak, then you are strong, Because He struggles for you. In what way have you offended Him? How can you improve on that? How can you avoid it in the future? Open your heart to Him. He will comfort you and strengthen your resolve. He will make His home in you. For it was You Who created my being Knit me together in my mother s womb. I thank You for the wonder of my being For the wonders of all Your creation. The heathens themselves said: What marvels The lord works for them What marvels the Lord worked for us Indeed we were glad. Deliver us O Lord from our bondage as streams in dry land.
