Living A Holy Life Guidelines to Having Godly Relationships & Avoiding the Dating Game OVERALL THEME God s plan is not just seeing someone or dating someone - God s plan is covenant! From the beginning of time, God s plan has always been about covenant. Walking holy in our relationships with others comes out of having a covenant relationship with God. The day we are truly born - again, we crossover and become NEW CREATURES! Our old man has passed away! This means that God s way is going to seem foreign or strange to our flesh. However, a preacher once said, When God comes back, we will be just like Him and He is not the one who is going to have to change, it will be us! Ephesians 4:22-24 NLT 22 Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God, truly righteous and holy. Ephesians 5:1-5 NLT 1 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are His dear children. 2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. 3 Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God s people. 4 Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes, these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. 5 You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world. ONE THING! Psalm 27:1-5 NIV The LORD is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh, when my enemies

and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. 3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident. 4 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek Him in His temple. 5 For in the day of trouble He will keep me safe in His dwelling; He will hide me in the shelter of His tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. LOVE IS PATIENT! Love waits! 1 Corinthians 13:4 Song of Solomon 2:7 NIV Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires. Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Comment: If we can trust God for salvation to start our Christian walk, we can trust Him to provide a mate for us. Psalm 23:1 NIV The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. Comment: The Lord is my shepherd, I won t be in a want of anything that even means a mate! What God REQUIRES from us before we are married: Actions Say No to Flirting Flirt: Actions, gestures and words to draw someone s attention and emotions towards you with the purpose of engaging in words and actions to let that person know you are interested in potentially being more than friends. It can be likened to throwing bait out there to see if they take the bite and come swimming your way. 1 Timothy 5:2 Treat younger woman as sisters, not to arouse affection.

Titus 2:1-5, 11-13 NIV 11For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13while we wait for the blessed hope the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. 1 Timothy 2:2 AMP Shun youthful lusts and flee from them, and aim at and pursue righteousness (all that is virtuous and good, right living, conformity to the will of God in thought, word, and deed); [and aim at and pursue] faith, love, [and] peace (harmony and concord with others) in fellowship with all [Christians], who call upon the Lord out of a pure heart. Titus 2:6 AMP In a similar way, urge the younger men to be self-restrained and to behave prudently [taking life seriously]. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, 8 NLT 3 God s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. 4 Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor 5 not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. 7 God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. 8 Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives His Holy Spirit to you. Hands Off (No petting, kissing or sex) Romans 13:13-14 AMP 13 Let us live and conduct ourselves honorably and becomingly as in the [open light of] day, not in reveling (carousing) and drunkenness, not in immorality and debauchery (sensuality and licentiousness), not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), and make no provision for [indulging] the flesh [put a stop to thinking about the evil cravings of your physical nature] to [gratify its] desires (lusts). 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 NIV 9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Guard Your Eyes Matthew 5:28, NIV 28But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Job 31:1, NIV I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl. Watch What You Wear Proverbs 11:22, NIV Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion. 1 Peter 3:3-4, NIV Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. 4Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. 1 Timothy 2:9-10, NLT And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. 10 For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do. Guard Your Words *Watch your words *Guard your conversations Proverbs 13:3, NIV He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin. Psalm 19:14, AMP Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my [firm, impenetrable] Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 119:9-11, AMP How shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed and keeping watch [on himself] according to Your word [conforming his life to it]. 10With my whole heart have I sought You, inquiring for and of You and yearning for You; Oh, let me not wander or step aside [either in ignorance or willfully] from Your commandments. 11Your word have I laid up in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Watch Your Thoughts

And the God of peace will be with you. Guard Who You Open Your Heart To 2 Corinthians 6:14-17, NLT 14Don t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness? 15 What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever? 16 And what union can there be between God s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be My people. 17 Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you.
