Essay. The two main pieces of literature covered this trimester were The Odyssey and Romeo and Juliet. Select any FIVE ofthe following terms: Aside Irony Soliloquy Theme Metaphor Foil then answer the following about each term: 1) Define the term 2) Give a specific example(s) from either The Odyssey and/or Romeo and Juliet. For example - if the term were simile you would write.. A simile is a comparison between two things using like or as. Homer used similes in The Odyssey several times. An example was when he was describing Hermes. He compared how Hermes dipped into the water saying he dipped like a fish. Another example was when Odysseus tried to stay warm when he was washed on shore. Homer said he was like an ember in a fire. Each of the five parts will be worth five points for a total of 25 points possible.

An extra essay idea. Select ONE ofthese topics... Romeo wrote a note, which he gave to Balthasar, to be given to his parents on Friday morning. Write this note. Write it from Romeo's point of view remembering you only know what you have been told. What might (must) this note include? What would Romeo need his parents to know or understand? What might he ask his parents to do? OR Imagine that Juliet, before she takes her life, writes a note to her parents. Write this note. Write it from Juliet's point of view remembering you only know what you have been told. What might (must) this note include? What would Juliet need her parents (and the nurse) to know or understand? What might she ask her parents to do? Don't let the timing worry you... pretend time is suspended and your character has plenty of time to write a great note. I will grade you on: - knowledge of the play and this character shown in your response - your use of first person narrative - paragraph unity - sentence structure (no sentence fragments or run on sentences) - your spelling, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation skills. This writing will be worth 10 points, so be sure to give me a complete, well thought out, well written note. (No, you do not have to talk like they did back then. Archaic language is not necessary. )
