ProTelevision Technologies A/S is proud to present to the market the PT2088 DVB-T/H Re- Modulator for re-transmission in DVB-T/H format of a MPEG-2 TS feed received in a terrestrial DVB-T/H RF-signal. PT2088 is the successor of the well-known re-modulator PT5788 and the concept of the PT5788 has been refined to a even higher level. We are confident that you will agree with us that the new re-modulator PT2088 offers the same excellent reliability, high performance and ease of operation as the PT5788 and in addition also a lot more. Introduction Being a DVB-T/H > DVB-T/H Re-Modulator, the core function of the PT2088 is to receive a DVB-T/H signal on a VHF/UHF-channel, demodulate the signal completely to MPEG2-Transport Stream level, thereby utilizing the built-in error correction of the DVB-T/H signal to provide an error free MPEG-2 TS signal for transmission on a DVB-T/H compliant COFDM spectrum in accordance with the rules for channel coding and modulation specified in the DVB-T/H standards ETSI EN 300 744/302 304 (same state-of-the-art modulator used in PT2080). The output of PT2088 is delivered on a user selectable frequency in the range from 30 MHz to 1000 MHz with selectable spectrum bandwidths of 8, 7, 6, and 5 MHz included as standard. The unit supports furthermore non-hierarchical and hierarchical modulation format and it may be user configured for MFN and SFN network operation as required. The receiver part of the PT2088 DVB-T/H Re-Modulator features a special high performance DVB-T/Htuner for optimal reception of the VHF/UHF signal. The PT2088 is available with an active or blank front panel. PT2088/00: Standard re-modulator function with blank front panel. All operations (configuration and monitoring) is carried out through remote interface (Websevice/HTTP, SNMP Client Get/Set/Trap and RS232/SCPI). This version optimizes the cost further without sacrificing performance by being devoid of costs related to front panel bill of materials. 3 PT2088/10: Standard modulator function with sophisticated front panel control. All general operation (configuration and monitoring) is implemented in the sophisticated front panel interface. The extensive use of dedicated function buttons as well as easily recognized soft key functions provides a truly userfriendly experience. Full operation is also supported via remote interface (Websevice/HTTP, SNMP Client Get/Set/Trap and RS232/SCPI). The typical application for the PT2088 DVB-T/H Re-Modulator is to work in combination with any third party RF power amplifier and provide a high quality RF-signal in a DVB-T/H network. The PT2088 constitutes in itself a state-of-the-art product with market leading RF-performance. The built-in linear and non-linear pre-corrector function (IMD Buster McTwo SoftClip) included as standard with PT2088 facilitates furthermore easy and efficient optimization of the overall transmitter system performance (re-modulator plus RF power amplifier and channel/combiner filter) by allowing manual compensation of the nonlinearities usually encountered with any RF power amplifier and analogue RF filter. Addition of the optional adaptive pre-corrector solution PT2754 will enhance the ease of operation further by providing continuous automatic optimization of the transmitter performance (remodulator plus RF power amplifier). The automatic optimization includes the RF power amplifier non-liniearities (phase and gain response vs. power) as well as non linearities in the channel/combiner filter following the power amplifier (amplitude and group delay vs. frequency). The possibility to implement a DVB-T/H network based on re-modulation of a received RF-signal may in a number of cases be an attractive solution depending on the infrastructure of the transmitter network, the presence or lack of of existing ground based distribution systems etc. The MPEG-2 TS available from the demodulator can be accessed in the rear panel of the PT2088 in ASI format for monitoring purposes as well as for possible re-multiplexing based on external third party equipment prior to the retransmission in DVB-T/H format. In case the received signal carries a hierarchical mode based signal, the user must choose whether the HP or the LP stream is to be detected. In case option PT2722 is selected, both can be simultaneously processed. The demodulated signal can be monitored, in ASI-format, from a dedicated connector on the unit. Apart from monitoring, the output ASI-signal can be used for re-multiplexing of the transport stream, thus giving the possibility to insert or drop programmes. Parameters that reflect the quality of the received signal are extracted from the tuner board and demodulator and are available for monitoring in the status displays. The user may set-up individual alarm levels for the parameters and program the preferred action in case a parameter drops below the set level, for example generation of a SNMP trap, sending of an e-mail and/or recording of the condition in the event log. In addition to the DVB-T/H main RF-input, the PT2088 Re-Modulator also features two ASI MPEG-2 TS inputs. These inputs can be used as an alternative feed in case the primary DVB-T/H input is absent or drops below the user specified quality threshold. Input of transport stream in IP format is furthermore available as an option (PT2720) and input of a transport stream in DVB-S/S2 satellite signal is available as an additional option (PT2730). In general, the alternative of using re-modulator is often to arrange dedicated fiber or radio link feeding. Compared to these solutions, the re-modulator based solutions is almost always a good deal from a financial point of view and in addition it offers high quality and excellent reliability. 5 The extremely high performance DVB-T/H spectrum produced by the modulator combined with the high accuracy and great flexibility of the modulator unit in terms of compensation, for linear and non-linear artifacts in connected amplifier and filter and combiners, by using the pre-correction functionality makes a solid basis for achieving the given requirement of the on air RF-signal with minimal degradation of the RF-signal. In other words, maximal possible coverage is obtained. The remote interface included as standard with PT2088 Re-Modulator (web service and SNMP client) facilitates easy remote control and monitoring both via Web browser and as an integrated solution in a larger management system based on the SNMP clients get, set and trap functions. SW/FW update is furthermore easily carried out from a remote location through the web interface (HTTP and FTP format supported).

6 The features and the performance makes the PT2088 simply the best choice in any DVB-T/H network. General In addition to a state-of-the-art implementation of the mandatory channel coding and modulation technology for DVB-T/H modulators the re-modulator also includes: Highly sensitive and selective tuner Prepared for local re-multiflexing Sophisticated management of input substitution User programmable transport stream network ID verification for easy implementation of safeguards against accidental transmission of unauthorized transport streams Input sense lines for on-board management of external alarm conditions Fully programmable alarm management including user programmable muting, event logging, e-mail transmission and SNMP trap generation

Optional on-board GPS receiver for cost effective SFN synchronization Linear and non-linear Pre-correction for optimization of transmitter performance. Adaptive pre-correction is available as an option (PT2754) Frequency agile RF output with user selectable spectrum polarity, supports any frequency from 30 MHz to 1000 MHz in steps of 1 Hz On-line SW/FW upgrade via Ethernet TR101290 First priority monitoring of MPEG-2 TS inputs The PT2088 is based on using the new PT2000 platform of ProTelevision, thus taking advantage of a large FPGA, a powerful DSP and a powerful Power PC micro controller running an Open Source Linux operating system. In addition to this, a new receiver chip is being used compared with the ancestor PT5788, assuring that state of the art performance is in place on all individual parts of the unit. The PT2088 Re-Modulator assures that the customer gets a reliable partner in the DVB-T/H network for many years of operation. Spectrum efficiency and purity of the signal are the inspiration for ProTelevision and reflected in our products through out the years. PT2088 makes no exception of this. Some of the secrets behind the astonishing performance are: A noise shaped bandwidth limited clipper to control the crest factor Suppression of sideband artifacts from the modulation with the inherent symbol rate. In addition to this, the importance of the pre-corrector is essential The unique double pre-corrector scheme where the two shoulders are adjusted individually. In addition, the fact that the operational bandwidth of the pre-corrector is large, extending into the adjacent channels The unit has two additional inputs active in case the optional digital adaptive pre-correction, PT2754, has been ordered. RF Sense 1 has the purpose of monitoring the signal directly after the amplifier and RF Sense 2 has the purpose of monitoring the signal directly after filter/combiner. The PT2088 has a number of features integrated in order to assist when doing linearisation, phase noise measurements and similar tasks. A number of test signals can be generated: A single carrier mode, with a power corresponding to a normal full spectrum C- OFDM signal, facilitates power measurements using a spectrum analyzer, phase noise measurements and frequency measurements A PRBS-mod can be selected and a BER over the chain or parts of the transmitter chain can be measured and analyzed Purity of signals Inputs/outputs Test modes 7

Options In addition to all the functionality implemented in the standard version of the PT2088, ProTelevision have developed some new features which can be added to the PT2088 as options. The available options are at currents stage as follows: PT2710 PT2711 PT2720 PT2730 PT2740 PT2754 Precision OCXO, 0.0001 ppm GPS Transport stream over IP Satellite receiver card 20 dbm output amplifier. Adaptive digital Pre-corrector The extremely high precision OCXO option, PT2710, offers the very high accuracy of 0.0001 ppm. The new oven controlled oscillator option will offer such high stability that the unit will remain capable of working in a SFN more then 12 hours after loss of a external supplied GPS-signal. 8 The high precision GPS-functionality, option PT2711, integrated in the modulator board eliminates the requirement for an external GPS-unit at the site. Thus a considerable cost saving can be made as well as easier management and faster start up can be obtained. The GPS-unit is prepared for active and passive antennas and is able to handle cables with length of more than 100 meters. The GPS-unit has 10 MHz and 1pps outputs and is extremely suitable for operating as the common site GPS-central unit. In addition to the RF-input, input in GBE-format can be handled by the re-modulator by using the option PT2720, Transport stream over IP. It is in addition possible to equip the PT2088 with signal fed from satellite. This is obtained by the option PT2730, capable of handling a DVB-S/S2 fed. The manual pre-correction, now included in the standard PT2088, is complemented with the option PT2754, an adaptive digital pre-corrector with outstanding performance. The adaptive digital precorrection process is extremely fast (typically 10-20 seconds). The state of the art signal processing algorithms in combination with the unique separate handling of the upper and lower side band, ensures that an output spectra with outstanding performance is given.
