The Littlest Christmas tree A Musical Play for Young Voices Characters: Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, the Littlest Christmas tree, Trees, Elves Setting: The Christmas tree lot a t the North Pole Time: Christmas time Opening Song: TIME TO DECORATE THE TREE 1. Time to decorate the tree! Ring the bells so joyfully! Hang the ribbon and the lights so they can twinkle in the night. Decorate the Christmas tree! 2. Time to put the tinsel on! And the baubles all around! Then the star goes on the top, but it s so high, we ll have to hop! Then the Christmas tree is done! 3. Time to sing a happy song! All of us can sing along! Gather round the Christmas tree, and join together merrily! Sing a happy Christmas song! All of the elves dance and sing around the Christmas trees while they decorate them. The trees are singing, too. No one is decorating the Littlest Christmas tree, but he is smiling and singing along anyways. The elves pick up some hand mirrors and hold them in front of the trees so they can look at themselves.

Tree #1: Oh, My! I m a beautiful Christmas tree! Elf #3: What's wrong with you?! You're puny, that's what! Tree #2: So am I! Elf #4: Yeah, you're the tiniest tree we've ever had in this lot! Me, too! Elf #5: You could never be a good Christmas tree! Elf #1: Yes, you are all beautiful trees. But only one of you can be Santa s very own Christmas tree! No way! Never! Elf #2: That s right! And today is the day that Santa Claus will pick his Christmas tree! Song: "TINY TREE RAP" Tree #3: I Just know he will pick me! Me! He s going to pick me! Song: I M GONNA BE SANTA S TREE When that Santa looks at me, I am all he'll need to see! I ve got what it takes to be Santa s tree. When that Santa looks at me, I am all he'll need to see! I ve got what it takes to be Santa s tree. Santa s tree, Santa s tree, I m gonna be Santa s tree. (Whisper) Yeah! Littlest Tree: Gee, I sure wish Santa would pick me to be his Christmas tree. Tree #4: You?! You've got to be kidding! All the trees and elves point at the Littlest Tree and laugh loudly. You're puny! You're small. You re not even tall! You could never be a Christmas tree at all! You're tiny! It's true! You'll just never do! Santa Claus would never pick a tree like you! Oh, no, no, no, no! No way at all! Oh, no, no, no. You're just too small! You're puny! You're small. You re not even tall! You could never be a Christmas tree at all! You're tiny! It's true! You'll just never do! Santa Claus would never pick a tree like you! Oh, no, no, no, no! No way at all! Oh, no, no, no. You're just too small! Too small! Elf #6: All elves: Look! Santa and Mrs. Claus are coming! They're here! They're here! The trees all fidget around trying to strike the perfect pose for Santa Claus to see. Enter Santa and Mrs. Claus. They wave at everyone. Santa Claus: All elves and Trees: Ho, ho, ho Hi, Santa! Hi, Mrs. Claus! Littlest Tree: What's wrong with me?

All elves and trees: Hello everyone! We're here to pick out a Christmas tree for our house. We have a spot all ready for it! Good! Oh, boy! Now line up so I can get a good look at you! Tree #6: Tree #7: Tree #8: You're all so beautiful, I just can't decide! Santa! I bet I would look just perfect in your house! Don't you think I'm the perfect tree, Santa? Don't I have the most beautiful branches you've ever seen, Santa? Tree #5: Oh, Goody! It's time for our march! Tree #9: I'm the best Christmas tree! All the trees get into a single file line and start March in place until they hear the command. Ready... set... March! The "tree line" marches around until the end of the song. The elves are standing around the trees, clapping and singing along and pretending to be marching too. All trees: No, I'm the best tree! I'm the best. The trees keep talking all at the same time until it's very noisy. Santa puts his hands over his ears and shakes his head. Mrs. Claus covers her ears and shakes her head, too. Stop! Stop! I can't take it anymore! The noise stops and all the trees and elves look at Santa. Song: "THE MARCH OF THE CHRISTMAS TREES" Mr. and Mrs. Claus are carefully looking the trees over as they parade past them. Elf #7: What's wrong? These trees don't care about Christmas! All they care about is themselves! Our favorite part of Christmas time is when we get to march in line! We march so Santa Claus can see which one of us will be his tree. Oh, we march, march, march, march! March, march, march, march! March, march, march, for Santa Claus to see! Our favorite part of Christmas time is when we get to march in line! We march so Santa Claus can see which one of us will be his tree. Oh, we march, march, march, march! March, march, march, march! March, march, march, for Santa Claus to see! Oh, we march, march, march, for Santa Claus to see! Tree #10: Tree #11: What's wrong with that? Yeah- we're supposed to be the most important things about Christmas, aren't we? Is that what you think Christmas is about? All the big trees look at each other and nod. All trees: Yeah. Of course. Mrs. Claus shakes her head slowly and looks as if she might cry.

Santa shakes his head sadly and looks down. This is terrible. Santa walks to the center of the "stage" and faces the audience. He shakes his head slowly. Doesn't anyone know what Christmas is? The Littlest Tree walks up to Santa and looks up at him. Littlest Tree: I do, Santa. He turns to face the audience. Song: "CHRISTMAS IS" Littlest Tree Solo- Christmas is love. Christmas is caring. Christmas is friends together sharing. All: Christmas is time for children to sing songs of the happiness Christmas will bring. Christmas is laughter, hope and joy filling the hearts of girls and boys. Christmas is what our dreams are made of. But more than anything Christmas is love. Littlest Tree Solo- But more than anything Christmas is love. Santa walks over to the Littlest Tree and puts his arm around him. This is my Christmas tree! All the elves clap. All elves: Thank you, Little Tree! You've reminded us all what Christmas is really about! I think it's time to decorate our new Christmas tree! Yay! Two elves 'lift up' the Littlest Tree and bring it to the center of the stage. Song: "O CHRISTMAS TREE" Everyone sings while the elves, Santa, and Mrs. Claus decorate the Littlest Tree. Santa Claus places the star at the top at the end of the song. O Christmas tree, our Christmas tree, we'll decorate your branches. O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree, we'll decorate your branches. Our Christmas tree may still look small, but in our hearts, it's ten feet tall. O Christmas tree, our Christmas tree, we'll decorate your branches. We love our Christmas tree. All characters face the audience, join hands and sing. Mrs. Claus, the elves and the trees applaud. Littlest Tree: Oh, thank you, Santa!

Song: "WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS" We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. Good tiding to you, and all of your friends. Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New year. We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. Good tiding to you, and all of your friends. Good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New year. We wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, we wish you a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. THE END
