All medically unwell trainees must be identified and not participate in the Motivation Course (Advanced) practical. b. 1 x Medical orderly with stretcher with first aid kits with Air-viva. c. Course Commander must call to inform Medical Centre prior to the conduct of the Flying Fox. d. Water replenishment will also being emphasized before, during and to be enforced after completion of the Flying Fox conducted. e. INTRODUCTION (05 minutes) JUNIOR CADETS - CONDUCT OF LESSON 1. The Instructors will carry out the following prior to the lesson a. Attendance Check. Ensure that the IC reports the strength to the instructor concern and counter checks the strength. b. Safety Check. Instructor must check on the well being of the trainees. All trainees who are not feeling well or injured are not to participate in the practical. c. Seating Arrangement. Ensure that the trainees have good view of the instructors so that they can see the explanation and demonstration. d. Arouse interest. Instructor must inject the sense of interest to the trainees and related some incidents or stories pertaining to the lesson that can be learn from. Trainees are to be motivated from the beginning. e. Announce topic. The lesson is on Flying Fox. f. Scope The scope of the lesson are: (1) Conduct of Flying Fox g. Objective At the end of the lesson, all trainees must be able to scale the flying fox using proper technique taught. Stage 1: Conduct Of Warm Up (10 minutes) 2. A warm up session comprises the recommended exercise before the skill practice. This will be organised systematically and progressively so as to prevent or lessen musculo-skeletal injuries occurred during the progress of the skill practice. a. Neck Stretch b. Shoulder Stretch c. Pectorals Stretch d. Forearm Flexor Stretch e. Side Trunk Stretch f. Quadriceps Stretch g. Calf Stretch h. Hamstring Stretch 1-1/1-4
Stage 2: Conduct Of Flying Fox (30 minutes) 3. The Instructor will explain the following: a. Description of Flying Fox b. Aim of this obstacle c. Rigging d. Ascending/Descending: Landing Technique e. Safety 4. RIGGING a. Prior to the conduct of the lesson, the Instructor will have to rig up the Omega descend rope either with the assistance of the men attending the training or manpower from another source. b. The method of securing of the Omega descend rope from the Omega tower to the anchor point can be done by treading it thought the ring and tie a square knot. Lastly tread it round the holdfast. 5. ASCENDING/DESCENDING: LANDING TECHNIQUE The Instructor will do the explanation while the auxiliary instructor will demonstrate the Omega descend to the class. a. Ascending/Descending i. The soldier will climb up the tower using the caged ladder to reach the Omega platform. Once on the platform, he is to stand away from the edge of the platform with the dispatcher in between him and the edge. ii. iii. iv. After the dispatcher has checked the soldier s safety rope, he will hook up and lock the karibinar onto the Omega rope behind the soldier s head. The Omega bar will be hooked onto the Omega rope before the soldier moves forward to the edge of the platform. The soldier will hold the Omega bar with both hands and lower himself on one leg whilst extending the other forward outside of the platform. Once the soldier is ready, the dispatcher will tap his (soldiers) shoulder and commands "GO". The soldier takes off from the platform and glides down while keeping his arms straightened, body relaxed legs together. He should not swing or cycle his legs in mid-air. 1-1/1-5
b. Landing i. The soldier should keep his feet together during midair. Just before touching the ground, he should focus his eyes on the ground and flex his knees slightly to absorb the impact of landing. ii. He will run along the ground by the side of the omega rope once his feet are in contact with the ground so as to reduce the forward momentum until he has stopped. iii. The Omega bar shall not be released until the soldier has come to a stop after running beside the Omega rope. iii. Upon safe landing, unhook the Omega bar and karibinar at the base of the Omega rope and move away via the side. 6. SAFETY a. Prior to the lesson, the tower must be checked for serviceability. If it is not serviceable, the training should be postponed. b. All ascents up the tower must be by the caged ladder and climbers must maintain 3-point contact. c. The dispatcher must be secured by a safety line around his waist and attached to an anchor point. d. The dispatcher must check to ensure that the safety rope of the soldier is tied properly and securely. He will also ensure that the landing pit is clear before dispatching the next man. e. The soldier must not release the Omega bar until he has come to a halt. f. The soldier will only move forward and take off on the command of the dispatcher. g. There should not be more than eight men (including the instructor/s) at the top of the omega descend platform at any one time. 1-1/1-6
Stage 4: Warm Down (10 minutes) 7. A cool down session is necessary to prevent muscle soreness and injuries caused by the activity organised. More stretching must be emphasised especially for lower limb muscles. This will helps to restore flexibility and preventing pooling of blood. The type of cooling down exercises selected will be as per warming up callisthenics movements. a. Hamstring Stretch b. Calf Stretch c. Quadriceps Stretch d. Side Trunk Stretch e. Forearm Flexor Stretch i. Pectorals Stretch j. Shoulder Stretch k. Neck Stretch CONCLUSION (05 minutes) 8. Recap and summaries the lesson. Emphasised on all the important points and finally clear any doubts that are been raised by the trainees. 9. Announced the subsequent lesson, the date, time and venue. 10. Check the health condition of all trainees before dismissal takes place. Enforce fluid replacement in maintaining body hydrated. a. Carry out safety precautions (1) Check the status and condition of all trainees. (2) Emphasis on fluid replacement. b. Set induction (1) Announce the subsequent lessons of Motivation Course (Advanced) and Expectations.
