ANALYTICS AS A BUSINESS ENABLER Data availability for banks has grown by magnitudes. Vast volumes of data records, ATMs, websites, mobile devices, social media, CRM systems and credit card usage, giving banks an opportunity to capitalize on the intelligence hidden within. The financial services industry has always been ahead when it comes to putting data to work. Banks are the biggest users of data analytics to derive business intelligence, assess risk, acquire customers, detect fraud and identify loan default. Now, banks are moving into a state of heightened usage with regard to data, driven by regulatory requirements and the need to respond to changing customer preferences in real-time. According to Gartner, worldwide business intelligence, analytics and performance management software spend surpassed the $12 Billion mark in 2011. Banks are following the trend. They are keen to leverage data through analytics and drive accurate real-time decision making, reduce uncertainty and improve customer outcomes. They are quickly adopting analytics as a means to do business better. Analytics can result in improved insight, efficiencies, increased customer loyalty through enhanced customer service, faster response to market needs, improved campaign results and better regulatory compliance. Wipro through its Framework for Banking Analytics Transformation will enable banks to achieve this. Despite the fact that banks have traditionally been amongst the heaviest users of analytics, they are faced with major barriers in being able to leverage the new data sources. Often, they are handicapped by the fact that their systems are not designed to manage the types of analytics now required. Amongst the challenges faced by banks impacting their analytical capabilities are: Silo systems and business units: Fragmented systems built over a period of time have resulted in no single source of truth. The impact is poor business decisions. Incomplete & inconsistent data: Lack of data availability and data integrity due to multiple legacy systems is hampering the ability of banks New or changing regulations: Growing investment requirements to meet new or changing regulations. Non-sophisticated tools: Existing spreadsheet based non-sophisticated tools fall short of meeting governance and auditability requirements of regulatory standards. Limited resources: Lack of analytical solution expertise and culture hamper analytical transformation efforts.
